Started off decidedly averagely. Events have overtaken his plans somewhat and having found he has couple of decent lieutenants in Rishi Sunak and Matt Hancock is making a decent fist of it.

Every time he speaks and says things like "wash your hands, you will lose loved ones before your time "

Yes, very proud.

The PM is doing the job expected of any PM during these so strange times. If Hunt would have won ditto, even if labour had of won the election Corbyn would have done the same. Forget political allegiances at this time just support ,follow and encourage others to the advice given by the experts.

I'm not a natural Tory, but I voted thus first time at the latest election. I'd much rather have Boris at the helm in the current crisis than Jezza/Macca/Abbott/Thornberry et al.

I just cannot see Jezza (2 E-grade A-levels) coping with a crisis of this complexity.

I hope the Labour party largely acts harmoniously with the government in the crisis rather than falling into the political-scoring game.

I agree. No leader of any party, Conservative, Labour or anyone else would be doing anything different. Better or worse. The time for point scoring or the frankly bizarre snearing like you get from the Guardian's opinion columns is over.

I’m happy with the measures they have put in place to help people this week. Less happy with how long they ignored the warnings they got in the first place.

For the sake of a lot of people I hope this week doesn’t turn out to be his Neville Chamberlain moment.

Why any body would be mentioning political parties now is beyond me, its like teenagers arguing over football teams sometimes, when this is as serious as any of us will probably face in our lifetime.

It could be his '1982 Thatcher Falklands War, Churchill Dunkirk 1940' moment

I never comment on political threads but I will now. My daughter is a police officer and pregnant. She was placed in the at risk group this week so told to go home and isolate: She’s been contacted since and told to return to work. She doesn’t want to let people down so she will do . As far as I’m concerned it’s because of Tory cuts that she needs to do so

To be fair, Boris's Tory party haven't really had time to do much other than fend off disasters so a bit unfair to judge yet.

What size? :D

I don't doubt that Tory cuts since Cameron and his austerity programme have left our services understaffed. But BJ and this cabinet have had a very unfortunate start with floods and now this effing virus.
It's an unfortunate situation, and hardly one through which to indulge in party bashing.

As a dad and Grandad I emphasise with you and your daughters dilemma. She should stay at home in the next few weeks I think the army will be on the streets and people who have had the virus and recovered or other security related people such as security guards traffic wardens door people etc will be called on to help out. Your daughter and her baby are in the really low risk group and will be prioritised quite rightly so if they do need help.
Your daughter and future grandchild are the future.
Quit the job if need be family first always.

Thanks for that and I do feel she will be ok. We all need to stick together and realise that party politics should be put aside but just needed to put another viewpoint forward

I voted Conservative in December for the first ever time at a General Election ....
In the last week, I've had a former Lib-Dem Councillor tell me that he thinks Chancellor Rishi Sunak is " deeply impressive " and " a future PM ", and a lifelong Labour voter tell me that, through gritted teeth, " Johnson has been outstanding " ....

Strange days indeed !

Sadly on here and in the country you have arseholes who because of who is in power will happily ignore the sad deaths of people to point score due to their choice not being leader. The same arseholes would be pleading leniency had Corbyn been in power due to the current unprecedented situation.

Oddly some of them are the same who log in at 5pm after we lose a game, maybe they are just happy being a c**t in life

And a massive thanks to everyone who how little it may seem.........

Joe Buck: Whilst I used to be in the police, I never got pregnant but I’m sure I could take her place if asked. Also, I am the last in the line of my family so I don’t have a families health to worry about. Have another go at insulting me because your last one failed miserably.

Who ever was PM, this virus would have handed them a poison chalice.

An unenviable task of balancing, the natural humanitarian urge to preserve as many lives as is possible. And, trying to ensure that when, God willing, we come out of this horrendous situation. Theres actually a viable economy left to come out to.

The enormity of the task , whoever had to do it. Cannot be underestimated.

Andrew JB will be along , shortly, explain that the reason why the former Lib-Dem Councillor and the lifelong Labour voter , Sunak is "deeply impressive " and " a future PM ", and " Johnson has been outstanding " respectivly. Is because they've been , and I quote , "radicalised" by the ""right wing media, newspapers, Daily Mail, Express, Torygraph, Sky news " take your pick.

I think you should name and shame the police force, as it doesn't sound like any one I know of. They are usually the opposite and bend over backwards to ill officers. She only needs to contact her federation or HR rep and it would be sorted in a second. Are all pregnant women being told not to work, in any job?

They normally bend over backwards on welfare issues, and certainly wouldn't go against government advice, perhaps it was just one ill informed person who contacted her, or maybe the advice has changed and her particular situation means she could return.

Johnson can't go wrong as long as berks like Dom the Dwarf keep out of it.
If we reach the worst case scenario, it's hardly Johnson's fault. National tragedy, we're all in it together, blah, blah.

If matters improve more rapidly, it's a great victory for a heroic administration and the er, bulldog, never say die attitude of the British people.
