Would you buy a 2020-2021 season ticket...

Let’s assume the next season was to be played without fans at the matches.

My question is....would you buy your annual season ticket to help Burnley FC stay afloat? It could just make the difference between Club survival and going bust.

The club wouldn't need the poor public to keep them afloat. ST monies make up about £5 million per season, it can do without us for 10 years from the coffers sat in the dry powder store. TV money on the other hand.... Now that would cause a problem if it ceased.

I don't think I would, no. There are far better ways for the club to survive than depend on those who haven't got a great deal of money donating cash.

Lets just say it's between £4m and £5m... i'd like to think we could manage by not having that. Sky money would still be coming in... may even increase for the clubs due to the increase in Sky subscriptions...

I’ll be getting myself and my eldest daughter (6) one next season, her first one. I doubt she will make more than a handful of games but I’m looking forward to trying to convert her.

I’ll buy one once I know we will be able to attend

What would the season ticket buy if you can't attend matches? Would the club be even selling them if next season is going to be part or wholly behind closed doors?

Do you think that they would provide some sort of access to online streaming of games through the season ticket purchase?

Sky/BT/Amazon don't cover all the matches currently. Behind closed door football that is not televised would be a bit pointless. There would have to be some sort of arrangement. Possibly let Sky/BT/Amazon have all the matches between them or have some other sort of outlet such as Live visual matches through Clarets Player.

If the club genuinely needed my £455 to stay afloat, yes I would.

They don’t though, so I’m not renewing until I know there’s a season to watch.

As it stands the club are going to need to figure out what to do about the fact that they still owe season ticket holders four games from this season. I’d probably be happy to write that off, but not everyone will feel like that.

Major headache for all clubs.

Mine also already purchased.
The big issue could be if 20/21 is a full season behind closed doors with all games streamed, how many people may not buy a ticket again once grounds are re-opened.

I've already bought 4, paid up front. Had I waited a while I wouldn't have bought them
If I don't see any games I would expect my money back, just like the holiday firm who've paid me because I Carnt go on holiday, and like sky aren't making me pay for sports I Carnt watch
I would also expect money back for games we don't get this season
The club don't give me anything if I don't use my ticket.

Perhaps those that have bought one / continue to pay could be incentivised in some way to continue. It’s easier to keep a fan than it is to try and win one back.

Many will already be used to not going on now. And while most will go back on not all will. Especially those that feel like the club didn’t really care.

The longer the club don’t communicate the bigger that risk is.

Now a couple of months since city tickets were bought and nothing from the club. Granted City would have to refund the club, fans bought the tickets from the club.

Perhaps some form of bonus loyalty points would be worth looking at for anyone who does continue.

Personally as other thread. Not expecting any refunds for last season even though we should be entitled.

But if no further update after this months payment is taken il be pretty sure to cancel before the next.

Any fan who wants refunds I wouldn’t begrudge. Particularly if it’s the fans who end up most out of pocket.

I don’t expect the players to have to take cuts either. But most fans would need the £400 more than most players would need £40,000!

I'd hazard a guess that there will be big demand for tickets whenever we are allowed back on t'Turf and similar with the away games.

Not really bothered about any refund for remaining matches of this season if they are behind closed doors but a twix voucher as a gesture of goodwill would be nice.

As for next season, assuming the ST’s for 21/22 were frozen I would accept the club discounting the ST’s price for any matches behind closed doors in 20/21 season

I’ve left ours on auto-renewal but would be expecting nothing to be taken for 2020/21 unless things are clear. Given that some fans have had finances decimated with no government bale out (even many on basic rate incomes) the club face a huge backlash if they start taking money, a backlash they can ill afford (long term). Clubs need to work very hard to nurture their supporter base from now on.

Once things are clear then yes, I would be happy paying for 2020/21 games that I am free to attend. In truth though I expect that won’t happen and we won’t be on the Turf again for 18 months.

I’m not sure about that Paul. Fear is the real enemy now, we are entering a fear driven social distancing age.

Some young guys will go on fearlessly, and some who have had Covid and feel immune will do the same, but many of us will be very cautious. I see demand dropping 30-50% until a vaccine. Games will become more sterile and TV demand will drop too, affecting Sky money. Players will have to accept smaller wages but many will hold out until their contracts end.

Football is in real trouble. Hopefully I’m being unusually pessimistic.

Premier League 2020-21 without fans? Eight charts on the impact

Kieran Maguire.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52529679

Series of tables on match day income for all 20 PL clubs. Burnley will lose less than £10 million if there are no fans at games next season, ManU will lose over £100 million.

"With matches likely to be played behind closed doors for an extended period because of bans on mass gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic, no fans means no matchday revenue.

Football Association chairman Greg Clarke has said it is hard to see fans returning to matches "any time soon" and the Premier League is preparing for the possibility of playing next season without fans.

Increasingly lucrative broadcasting deals and commercial opportunities mean matchday income contributes a smaller proportion of total revenue to clubs in the modern era than before - but it can still have a significant impact.

And it is the bigger teams who stand to lose more.

Football finance lecturer Kieran Maguire uses eight charts to show the potential financial impact of a 2020-21 season behind closed doors."

If you mean you have left your direct debits on auto renewal then they have already started taking out payments for 20/21 season.

The club put out a statement explaining this. You were given the option of cancelling your direct debit but it was made clear in the statement that the first 2020/21 payment would be taken out on 25th April, which is was.

As I pointed out above.
Direct Debit payers. You are already paying for 20/21 season. April's DD was for the new season.

This must all boil down to how well off you are and what financial responsibilities you have.
If you are fairly well off, low mortgage, pension or job security is sorted, well I suppose £30/£40 per month is chicken feed.
For those not in that bracket it is a lot of money, especially when you are paying for a service which may or may not happen.

Whilst we are all in this together, it is affecting everyone differently.
Particularly if you are older, male, living in a high density population area with associated underlying health conditions.
Likely to be on a low income and from the BAME communities.
So we are not quite all in it together.

So if you are relatively well off, please don't think you are a real fan.
Some are just trying to get through this s**tstorm as best they can.

I am auto renewing next season's ticket by direct debit. I will be expecting some reimbursement for any games not played this season. I also have a Man City ticket in my wallet. Together it's tying up over £100 of my money. If you can afford to write that off then good for you.

I would also expect reimbursement for games not played but appreciate things need to be sorted out.

Just letting the direct debit run and waiting to see what happens. I would always support the club within reason. Im pleasantly surprised at how level-headed this thread is as I opened it confidently expecting to see a succession of outraged Mr Angry's venting their spleen about the club not refunding their money and generally ripping them off.

Don’t be silly. The Premier League players have collectively done their bit, they collectively donated 4 million to the NHS. That is 20 squads of 25 players = 500 players. 4 million divided by 500 = 8k each. That is like the average working person donating a one off payment of £40. Denise Coates from Bet365 donated 10 million on her own. Yes she is a very wealthy lady but it knocks the Premier League players gesture into a cocked hat. Dyche has already stated a couple of times in the press that the government and the media should get off the players backs. Fine, as long as Mike Garlick and co.are happy to continue to pay circa 7.5 million per month to the playing and management team whilst they are at home in their leafy Cheshire pads doing nothing.

My thoughts exactly. No one is donating to me to get me through this. I'm not a charity, why should BFC be. Again, my season ticket has auto renewed, and payment 1 paid up. I'll continue to let it ride, but, if at this time next year, I haven't been to a game, I'd reasonably expect my money back.

Thank you very much to you and ClaretTony for pointing that out - I was unaware, I don’t follow the club on social media nowadays (too many gambling promotions I don’t need to see). A shame, I may have cancelled the direct debit and paid in one go at the end of the early bird when the situation is clearer.

In these unique times it feels like the club simply need to make clear that any game that fans have paid for in advance which subsequently doesn’t take place with fans, shall be refunded. If that is the case then I don’t have a problem with them taking my money in advance.
