BAKED bean lovers are getting ripped off by some supermarket own brands which fill more than half the tin with sauce.

Cans of baked beans from Tesco, Asda and Lidl contain fewer than 50 per cent beans, a Sun Money investigation found.

Not so much a "Hill of Beans" more a "Pimple of Beans"

A lot of people don't have the choice. It's "discount stores" and that's it.
True, you've also got the convience factor to take into account, budget aside if you don't drive & the nearest Asda ect the preferred shop is miles away you'd tend to go wherever closest to save on taxis & lugging shopping on the bus. You make the decision based on whatevers easiest, even more so now with taxis not operating properly & buses with limited services & the online delivery slots unsuitable.

Well I've polished off the ciders, crap
Polished off 2 of the 3 bags of crisps, also crap.

Add those to the chocolate, cheese, crackers, crisp, cereals, tins, cordial and a few other bits I'd say my experience has been a harsh lesson, buy cheap, buy twice.
No where near the quality of brands, snd/or rival stores.

Best thing so far gas been the tin foil, very thick and better than rival own brand

Would certainly not do a regular shop there regardless of the 30% savings.

Will be drinking Aldi Merlot tonight, good stuff. Some good cheeses and other treats but poor on fresh veg. Just eaten wonderful sausages from local outdoor pigs and looking forward to tomorrows mutton from local Jacob's sheep. Long Causway Trading, great meat and only 10 mins away
Aldi/Lidle for basics and specialist local suppliers for good stuff.

Are they Porcus sausages? If so, they are well worth the extra quid or so. Free range and local, what's not to like.

I work at Aldi, a few years ago we did a Corona knock off called Monterrey. When we opened the cases they were full of Corona. We had to send the lot back to the manufacturer.
The tests Aldi do on products is extensive. As a few have said already, a lot of products they carry are exactly the same as other brands because they come from the same place.

It's ok for certain items you quickly learn what's good & what's bad & you can gauge the quality comparisons, I couldn't shop there all the time for everything but certain items are passable on reflection with the price, some of its rank bad & you'd snub especially when you can taste the difference elsewhere.

Which would probably be ok if I were doing the shopping and could select what I did and didnt like, sadly Mrs Macca does the shopping so it's a case of all or nothing.

Once she isnt going 3 shops a week for her family she will be under strict instructions not to buy things from there for me.
Its harsh saying it now, shes doing a wonderful job keeping 3 households fed, so dont want to push my luck.

We are also not 1 of them families that will go 3 different supermarkets to get the required goods, times too precious for that.

Had the Aldi Ultimate burgers last week, on toasted Aldi Brioche burger buns, with Aldi smoked German cheese, and Aldi streaky bacon. They were absolutely excellent, and my girlfriends teenage son want the same again this week. Highly recommended
