My all time favourite rock n roll artist. What a voice, what a performer: I saw him live in 1964 on a multi artist bill, he stole the show completely. He influenced Elvis, the Beatles and many others, a true modern music icon. RIP to a great rocker!!

One of the original rock n roll greats

'Lucille' and 'Long Tall Sally' , 2 of my favourites from that genre.

Any hard evidence that Elvis is dead?

His compacted colon was quite hard.

Little Richard was genuinely one of those guys that was able, very successfully, to cross over from rock and roll, rocking blues, rhythm and blues, rhythm and soul and just plain soul. This track was, amazingly, recorded in the UK. https://youtu.be/vSmnPV7bbS4

I read that somewhere in the can there is at least an album's worth of r and b stuff (Like I Don't Wanna Discuss It) just waiting for us!

I saw Little Richard three times, once in Burnley at what is now the Mechanics. He put on a fantastic show each time. RIP Richard

I'd be surprised if there is much Okeh stuff left to publish and Specialty stuff likewise. Columbia Special Products have done a fair amount of reissuing the "race" label recordings from the 50s and 60s of a fair chunk of Okeh stuff but you never know. It is amazing what turns up.

[I saw little Richard in October 1963 at Bradford Gaumont on the same bill as Don and Phil Everly and the Rolling Stones i remember him tearing off his shirt and running round the auditorium./quote]

Foreverly, that's exactly the same gig that I was at then, Bradford 63,, with the Everlys and the Stones opening the show. I went on a coach with my girlfriend, who became my first wife: I was always a massive Everly Brothers fan and they were great, but Little Richard was incredible to see live.

After watching us beat Villa 4-2 in November 1966, with Lochhead scoring all 4, I saw Little Richard at Nelson Imp that evening.
He was wild!

It can't be him, can it? Samuel isn't dead. That's cliff Richard.

It was from that period when he wasn't complete shite. Must be 30 years since he drove that bus off the cliff.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the Nelson Imp once cancelled a booking from a London agent, because it clashed with Colne Swimming Club's annual Dinner/Dance. The booking was for Frank Sinatra ....
