Can anyone recommend a seller that's local

My parents recently got a cocker. It’s as mad as two or three boxes of frogs. Absolute bedlam every time you’d go round. Think they got it over near Warrington but this was more than 12 months ago.

My brother got his springer spaniel from Warrington I think but it was from a rescue centre

A friend has just got a Sprocker pup (Springer/Cocker cross) and its as mad as a box of frogs....

I had my cocker spaniel for 15 years and had to have her put to sleep in November and it broke me, I said never again, but six months later I've come round to the idea of getting another I must be mad, they are mental and full of energy, mine was right up to the end.

I'm on my third cocker spaniel. They are wonderful dogs, intelligent, fun loving and loyal.

Lexie will be ten in July. Hopefully she'll have a few years yet, but when the time comes I'm sure I'll have another puppy within a fortnight. They are such brilliant company.

Box of frogs? What is this fascination with a box of frogs? And why are they mad? Yeah ok, I'd be mad if I was shut in a box with other humans, but that's a different kind of mad isn't it?

They are great dogs - generally terrific with kids. They have soft mouths and have a gentle nature. Ours is tiny and still looks like a puppy. Only downsides are that they can be very stubborn and aren’t that smart

I don't agree that they aren't that smart; indeed, they are generally regarded as having well above average intelligence.

That is one of the reasons they can be quite stubborn. If they don't want to do something they can take a lot of persuading to do it.

A family member will be breeding his springer spaniels again soon, come from good stock and are working gun dogs too, so will have the relevant blood lines.
Slightly different to cockers, but all round fantastic dogs.

Have the price of puppies recently gone up huge amounts? Looking for a King Charles cavalier puppy. £2k +. I’m sure they used to be around £500 a couple of years ago? Might be wrong of course

I have a cocker currently and previously a Springer. Absolutely brilliant dogs, both gentle natured and great pets. My cocker is super intelligent and when exercised he’s a very calm dog particularly in the evening

Yes I' ve noticed that. Prices seem to have doubled since coronavrus.

Of course, people won't be breeding puppies at the moment because they won't be able to sell them. Only today Cumbria police stopped a couple from Manchester who were driving to Dundee to pick up a puppy. They were given a ticket and sent home.

Think I got the daft one

We have a sprocker who is brilliant. We got him from a spaniel rescue centre at 10 months old, I would guess he was too lively for the young family who had him.

I laughed when someone warned me they calm down after about 7 years, he's 5 now and can still be in the 'mad as a box of frogs' bracket. He is wonderful with our 2 year old and puts up with everything, I think that comes from being around children in his original home.

I enjoy being outside, he does and then he loves family time at home.

Our Cocker Spaniel is 6.5 years old now. Our first ever dog (and last! )

So I don't know if it's because it is/was our first dog, but I can confirm this
box of frogs theory.
Funnily enough, we also bought her near Warrington, (edit name removed) not far from Risley Remand centre,
(that should have given me a clue). £425 but I think they are nearer £800 now.

Now I don't know if this is an old wives tail but ours is a golden one.
The tale goes of all the frogs, the golden ones are the maddest!
Plus I wish someone had told me there were 2 strains.
The working Cocker who needs 2 to 3 hours exercise per day (ours!)
and the show Cockers who are happier with 20mins.

Enjoy, great dogs, but be warned you end up madder than they are.

We’re finally looking out for another, after ours (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel)passed away last year.

I’m on a waiting list with a breeder for a Cavapoo although they are looking at around £1,800. Prices have definitely gone up over the past few months and plenty seem to see puppies as a quick way to make money. I think there could be a lot of unwanted dogs, when life eventually goes back to normal.

There are some decent breeders about but Pets4homes does appear to have a good number that are puppy farms, so worth doing a bit of research.

Wow; we bought our Ruby cavalier from a breeder on Mizpah Street in Burnley and he was £550 in 2014. He is a lovely dog and will walk several miles,should you wish. He is great with kids but is too 'full on' with visitors, consequently my wife and I have been 'self isolating' for years now.

Try Pendle Dogs In Need or the RSPCA centre ar Huncoat (where the eldest wellernut jnr works).

Getting a rescue dog imo is the best way forward, I know because I currently have two
