Another sad day on the football calendar.My thoughts are with the 56 and their families today.God bless them.

With the Main Stand at Bury practically being a replica of that at Valley Parade, Bradford has always resonated with me. I was only four years old at the time but I remember the reaction to the disaster incredibly clearly. As part of the wider story of British football as a whole when Martin Dobson was taking Bury out of Division Four, I spoke to a Bradford fan who survived the fire. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to write up.

Horrible, horrible day for Bradford City and for football.

I sat in that stand, roughly where the fire started, a few years earlier when we beat them in a league cup replay.
It was a night match, dark and pouring with rain.
I still get shivers when I watch the film of the disaster.

We were three just three weeks before the tragedy - I was stood on the open end that day but I went soon after the fire to represent our Supporters Club at a memorial. That day will live with me forever.

For some reason that I still don't understand, I once watched the video of the fire. Horrific viewing and not something I would watch again when you take in what is occurring.

So many names on that memorial that are obviously Grandfathers, Sons and Grandchildren.
A truly horrible event that decimated families.

I have seen the video a couple of times in relation to fire safety training. Both times most people in the room were unaware of the Bradford fire and what they were about to see. 2 comments I made before the video started:

1. What you are about to see is one of the most horrific things you will ever see
2. Watch the clock on screen from the first seconds there is a sign of a problem until the whole stand is ablaze and see just how quickly fire can spread.

As per Tony, I was stood on the open end 3 weeks earlier and it really hits home that it could quite easily have been us that witnessed the horror. Tony has mentioned this in previous years, but look at the list of names - several families lost 2 members, some appear to be son, father and grandfather.

Elsewhere on this day a young lad also lost his life at the Birmingham City v Leeds United game after extensive crowd trouble. A truly dark day for English football where people went to the match to support their team and never came home. RIP to all who lost their lives that day 35 years ago.

I was at Valley parade that day. Remember the day of the fire well, we were travelling back from Walsall listening to the dreadful news coming in from Bradford and Birmingham.

Amidst all this we would do well to remember that tomorrow is 35 years to the day that 56 people died in the most horrendous manner imaginable, because they went to a match at a club when the game and country at large paid scant regard to the safety and welfare of anyone who did. The Bradford fire is subject to new scrutiny. Are we beginning the long road that Hillsborough went down?

Always put in the background this game is , but Sheffield is the one people talk about in that year .

Numbers is not the main point for me .

The viewpoint of another inquiry into the fire, as started by Martin Fletcher at around the time of the 30th anniversary of it with his book The 56, isn't a popular one amongst Bradford fans. I've spoken to a few of them, including editor of the well-respected City Gent fanzine and the author of the book Four Minutes To Hell, and neither of them want to see one.

Today is not about inquiries or anything else - today is about remembering those who perished and supporting those from Bradford City and Lincoln and the families of those who lost their lives.

i've lived in bradford for the best part of two decades but only recently discovered that hamm strasse (at the junction with manningham lane) was renamed in honour of the kind sentiments of germans who sympethised with the victims of that fire.

i thought that was lovely.
