Reading all the coverage of the Orient game on the messageboard in recent days makes it hard to believe that in 25 years we fell from near double winners to near oblivion. However the journey back to where the club is now is just as surprising but much more pleasant. Between the Orient game and the Premier League there were a few ups and downs but having supported Burnley since the early 1960s I never thought we would ever return to the top division.
As we reflect during this enforced shut down I think it is worth remembering and maybe the club recognising those managers who played a big part in the club's revival. I think that it would be a decent gesture of the club to put on an evening which pays tribute to those who led us from the mess of the mid 1980s and invite them as guests. I would include the following:

Jimmy Mullen.
Stan Ternent.
Steve Cotterill.
Owen Coyle.
Sean Dyche.

I think we owe all of them a lot.

It would be good to have photographs of managers around Turf Moor, similar to the of the players...no need to be as large and could be accommodated between the existing photos with description below!

The player photographs placed around the walls were the maximum allowed and they do include three managers

such a shame how the Mullen era ended, if anyone deserves an ovation at the Turf it's him

He was the one who started our long journey back up the football league,we had improved massively in the preceding seasons following the Orient game,but lest we forget,we were still marooned in the 4th division,he came in and we never looked back that season,then we established ourselves in the 3rd tier,before that memorable play-off campaign,when we dumped both Plymouth & Stockport,that Plymouth victory was particularly sweet,given all the talk of Wembley from their fans after the 1st leg at the turf,we didn't actually do that badly in the 2nd tier the next season,what ultimately sealed our relegation,was a poor start,and then a terrible mid-season slump,but bizarrely despite going down we had a 12 game unbeaten run in the course of that season,it was very much Jekyll & Hyde,as i recall we were around the play-off places the season after as well,when for whatever reason the board decided to pot him,but he brought belief back after the lean decade or so,when we were treading water at best.

Mullen didn't really do much apart from with us. Things just seemed to come together at the right time.

Even stranger when you talk to the players about him. Initially he took hold of Frank Casper’s team and went totally direct using Francis & Harper on the flanks. It worked at lower level and I doubt any manager again will come in and win his first nine league games.

That 12 game run you refer to was actually 10 games of which only 3 were won. He made too many bad signings and overall we were out of our depth that season. The run of 8 consecutive defeats at start of 1995 killed us off completely. 8 points from safety in the end.
