Thank you NHS

As Thursday has become the unofficial Thank The NHS day, I wanted to recognise our NHS hero, Laura.

When my other half went into labour on Friday we had a race against time to get to hospital. Every traffic light & junction against us we arrive at The Hospital with baby imminent. A security guard to navigate who insisted neither mother to be or I allowed through the door!

Once that little hurdle was over Laura took over and was coolness personified. You could tell she had years of experience as she put mum (and more so dad, who thought he was about to become a midwife) at complete ease.

Everything was prepared. Including the bath as they knew how much my other half wanted a water birth. Laura talked her through everything. Keeping her extra calm and explaining everything simply and with real empathy.

Just 24 minutes after arriving, our baby son was delivered safely and healthily on VE Day.

The most remarkable thing about all this is that in the obviously difficult circumstances the nurses find themselves anyway, Laura turned round after handing our son to me and proudly says - ‘I have a secret. That was my first ever baby delivery!’ Amazing.

Thank you Laura and Thank you NHS.

Best of all she is an avid Burnley fan and has a season ticket in the James Hargreaves upper tier. If anyone knows or sits next to her please say thank you again from us all.

Fabulous to read a feel good story on this board CC,well done to all concerned, and a big shout out to Laura on her first baby delivery.

A 75th anniversary VE baby to add to the excitement, that'll certainly be a day to savour, and a special birthday every year.

The security guard sounds like an idiot though i have to say.

The unit at Burnley Hospital is absolutely wonderful. We’ve had the best and worst moments in our life in there and we were supported as a family outstandingly.

Congratulations on your new born and a big well done to Laura!

Well done c.c. For highlighting this. Nurses,Doctors and staff don't get half the recognition they deserve and I said that long before this current situation. They are all so dedicated. Wonderful, wonderful people.

Wonderful news and congratulations. Tremendous stuff.

You're right, beddie, these people need improved status, higher pay and for those affected, an immediate scrapping of the outrageous visa fee.

I think driving down the wrong side of the road when boohoo was emptying is what accelerated things to be fair

Just the four of us. I’d happily have more but two seems the magic number with one of each.

Our daughter was born severely premature and needed extensive hospital treatment on the NICU and the care she was received was astounding. The NHS is a very special thing.

Great post!

Yes. Burnley should be rightly proud of it’s birthing facilities. The rooms and the nurses are the best around.

My cousin is a doctor on NICU. Il be sure to let her know your comments. Glad all is ok.

Congrats to you and applause for Laura and all the NHS staff, I owe my life to the MRI at Manchester, their multicultural team got me through cancer and every member of staff was a credit to the NHS, can't praise them enough.
