A lot of commercial businesses have been doing this I presume for some protection against any attack from squatters. They know if they get in then 3 things guaranteed :
1 - They will trash the place
2 - The whole court / bailiff procedures because its commercial premises takes time and money - not something a business not able to open for months really wants.
3 - The cost of putting the interior back to a fit state - several thousand pounds - again as above not what a suffering business needs.

Not sure why i like the place but going over to Burnley and not visiting the Miners after the game feels wrong .

Not on your own there.
Part of the ritual!

Its our usual pre-match watering hole, packed before every game, like most places. Hope alls well.

It is a bit of a ‘unique’ place but it’s a proper Northern WMC and I love visiting WMCs

I’d imagine it’s the location and not knowing when it will be reopened. Costs a few hundred quid to board the windows but saves a lot of potential hassle as mentioned further up.

My other half is from London and she thought it was absolutely hilarious that somebody was sat in the booth by the door checking membership and the like.
Not something you ever think about when you grow up with it. I told her she needs to get used to Northern ways if she wants to come to Burnley again

I’ve been in working men’s clubs that won’t let you in unless a member signs you in, actively encouraged to buy said person a drink for it

Last game we played at Boleyn/Upton Park I went in East Ham WMC very near the ground and it was just the same as Lancashire. Old chap on the door collecting £2 and the beer comparatively reasonable cheap. Good welcome from the locals too, no bother and good banter. Its all over the UK if you know where to look.

Liverpool Supporters' Club, pay a pound in at the door to a guy sat at at table.
Our last game it was £1-80 a pint. Burger for a quid.

My wife is from Pollards Hill CC, she was a spurs fan until she met me and went to the Turf. Now she is a Claret, one of twelve in our house

Mines from Thornton Heath so only a stone's throw away. Wouldn't say she was a Clarets fan but she does have an unhealthy love of Bertie Bee

Ritual to go in miners before match, i am local to a similar members club in bury and go in the everton taxi club before our game and they are all similar, cheap beer and good atmosphere.

Hi TsarBomba,
No, I never lived there, luckily enough, my wife’s family come from there, but none of them live there now.
I met the Mrs in a pub called the White Bear in Addington, at the top of Featherbed Lane. Once we were established, we lived together in Bray, just outside of Windsor.
I can imagine you’ve spent some time chasing people around Pollards Hill, full of dodgy folk.

The current Mrs Croydon had her hub caps nicked from the White Bear. Apparently they do a lovely Sunday lunch now but she refuses to go back for some reason

I met some very dodgy people in that pub, one of the regulars was a chap who was supposed to have held up the post office in New Addington at gun point, this was way back in the early 90’s when they had the petting zoo there.
Been married 26 years this year, get less for murder.
PS. When you say current, is it a part time position?

New Addington hasn't improved much over the years, probably got worse if anything.

That was where 12 year old Tia Sharpe was murdered
Mrs Croydon is currently serving her probation period. 10 years and counting, need to make a decision soon
