Sad to hear Mick Fletcher passed away this morning, cracking fella and one of the best local refs we've had, always gave as good as he got with banter on the pitch and a real laugh in the pubs and clubs off it. Condolances to his family he will be missed

I knew Mick for years. He was a great guy and always smiling.
He once told me at work about 20 years ago, that he had been asked to referee a behind closed doors first team game against Blackpool . He said the pace was incredibly fast, and he struggled. With that smile on his face he said that they had only been playing 5 minutes when a Blackpool player told him to keep up with the ball, and that he was having a f***ing nightmare!

He also reffed a representative match, Burnley league under 14s v Blackburn under 14s, I was there because my eldest son was playing.
They were in blue shirts and we were in red. A tackle went in and the ball went out. Mick promptly shouted "white ball"!
I spoke to him at half time and we had a laugh about it. He said he wasn't actually watching and hoped the players would just get on with it.
Top bloke.

So sorry to hear the tragic news of Mick's passing. He always had a smile on his face and he was great with my lads in the Junior Clarets .Only saw him a few months ago after his return from holiday in Tenerife and he was just as bubbly and friendly as normal. All our thoughts and best wishes are with Judith and the family.

Really sad news and a real shock. I had a couple of pints with Mick in Pablo’s bar in Los Cristianos in January whilst watching the Clarets. He was his usual chirpy, happy self, always a smile on his face. Condolences to his family and many friends. R.I.P. Mick

He was refing us the first week they brought out a booking for a tackle from behind. I executed one and got the ball but Mick booked me, saying he'd no option. Next week we had Mick again and same thing happened. He booked me again and laughed! We had some fun with that over the years. RIP happy man.

Excellent turn out for Mick as his cortège passed The Turf today. I’d approximate about 200 people spread out on both sides of Harry Potts Way to pay their respects.

RIP.
