That said I got a bottle of gin bought for me a few weeks ago as a thank you and I don't normally drink the stuff However I was converted over the weekend , it was a craft bespoke gin distilled in Lancashire the flavour blew me away it was the summer gin I got bought. https://www.google.com/local/place/prod ... bb25ee05c2

Dangerous stuff.

Sank a bottle of Gordon’s Pink Gin one night a couple of weeks back on the sly.

I say on the sly as initially I thought I’d done well to get through half a bottle in one sitting, before long I’d done the lot. Wife was on cocktails. Can’t remember much else.

Might even have been a school night.

Unprecedented times indeed.

Step away from the board, do not pass go and collect £200.

I have an 100% conversion rate in several different countries.

A slice of lime is the key.

Add a slice of orange to your gin and tonic instead of lemon or lime, never thought that would go until I tried a large Sipsmith at a Spoons.

Thought they'd chucked orange in by mistake but actually it works, never have anything else in a gin now :)

It’s the only Gin I don’t like, I went to the Diageo Menstrie up in Scotland a few times last year through work and visited the lab where they ‘invented’ it. Cool place

Normal gin with tonic is lovely. Not a fan of the fruit infused ones, they just taste like alcopops to me

Gin Xoriguer (Menorcan gin)is a fantastic gin, mixed with either lemonade or bitter lemon.

Gin also has anti Coronavirus properties. I've been drinking it for years and never had Coronavirus!. Well, I don't think I have.
Agree with claret2018, go for the normal stuff with Tonic. The infused one's are just an attempt at being trendy.

It was given as a gift when I left my last job along with a bottle of Peaky Blinders Gin (only remains of that left, had a good go at my leaving do. One lad had to go home early... ).

The Edinburgh Gin Co. Gin liqueurs are also very drinkable.

The key is a good fresh and fizzy tonic water.

A bottle of gin in a night is mildly concerning I won’t lie.

My favourite is Number 3 London Dry Gin. You’ll never go back to Gordon’s / Bombay Sapphire. Avoid flavoured gins.

Agreed good tonic is key - Fevertree Mediterranean or Double Dutch who do some nice unusual flavours like pomegranate and basil.

Is that the stuff made up Hargher Clough somewhere, in an old mill ?

I had heard it was pretty decent tackle and that they were making great progress with sales.

Batch is great and clearly doing well as widely available here in Preston.

They do an Industrial Strength version which is next level.

Surprised Burnley’s very own Batch gin hasn’t had a mention on here.

My all time favourite with frozen raspberries (bit feminine but tastes so good don’t mind) and fever tree tonic. Has frankincense and myrrh botanicals which somehow make it taste better at winter/Christmas. Great bottle too. Can’t beat it in my opinion.

Switch to Tanqueray with grapefruit in the summer.

All the gins are nice.

Drank with Ginger Ale and fresh ginger is my favourite.

Pink Gin is just naughty, goes down faster than lemonade and then bang. You're doing lots of stupid things you will regret in the morning.

There's a reason why the old favourites, like Bombay Sapphire, Hendrick's and Tanqueray, will still be around long after this current gin fad has bitten the dust.

I'm very careful with gin/spirits. I bought one of those 25 ml/50 ml spirit measures from Amazon.

Best way.

Although I think the Irish measure of 35ml is about right. Stops you getting carried away on the double 50ml measure.

That's me too. 35ml is a decent shot. You get enough of the lovely gin taste without getting blathered.

That’s where I went wrong. I measure by taste - gin to tonic ratio.

The first couple are always strong until I strike the balance.

Haven’t had a gin for a couple of weeks. Can’t face it just yet.

So I’ve been drinking champagne instead

Gin and Tonic - nah
Gin and Sparkling Water - that’s the way to go - you can taste the gin rather than the tonic and you don’t have a hangover as you’ve been hydrating all night
Gin n ice works too
Trust me, I’m a drinker

The Whitley Neil quince gin sounds sweet and sickly. Far from it, bung some Med Fever Tree in there and it's damn near perfection.
Their rhubarb and ginge is pretty good too.

If you're sticking to the old school stuff, Tanqueray is the way to go.

I like plain gin - nice and dry. However, we got a cheapo from Lidl, pomegranate and rose. Not too sweet and if you've ever had soft drink, "Kinnie" in Malta, it tastes very similar. Nice!

Or combine the two: gin, Prosecco and elderflower liqueur or cordial. A sloe gin fizz is nice too.

Tonic makes a huge difference with gin. Schweppes and the like are a big no, no. Has to be a full fat Fever Tree or an Elderflower Fever Tree (depending on the gin) which is amazing with a good Vodka.

Sipsmith’s VJOP, Bath Tub, Monkey 47, Williams Chase or for a cheaper summery one, Bloom. A couple of good local ones are Slingsby and Masons.

The Gin should retail around the £37 mark but Asda have it currently at £20

And I've tried many a citrus gin but trust me Beefeater Blood Orange is the best around by far imo

Dont forget as well good tonic is the key. Getting a good gin and then using cr@p tonic is like having an E-Type Jag but putting a Dacia engine in it

Can't stand the stuff myself, in fact not a great lover of spirits, much prefer a beer or glass of wine.

But my wife is a Gin drinker and tried all different ones. Her favourite Gin is actually made locally on the island and is called Fynoderee. Not the cheapest but she reckons it's worth it. They do four seasonal Gins which have different flavours but her favourite is their Chai gin.

https://fynoderee.com/collections/all

If you don't already do it and don't like your drink watered down with ice cubes, try freezing slices of orange, lemon and limes and adding them to the drink.
