Just dug this out. Did anyone attend?

Got lots of old memorabilia some like this from before my time. Must’ve been my dads.

Then of course we had Newcastle in the final which didn't get played til April when we got well sick of playing the Geordies in the league / cup / and this competition in quick succession.

Skipped school for that one . Think the miners strike was on so it had to be played in the afternoon because there was no power for the floodlights

Couldn’t get out of work so missed it. We played them again immediately afterwards at home in the league.

Had the 3 day week begun or was it imminent? I should know but the years take their toll. Again, couldn:t get out.of work for it.

I was there. A cold day and felt very unusual. No chance of floodlights meant a very early kick-off.

Not convinced that Alan Stevenson played in goal though.

Jack Taylor .....probably the last time we had a decent Ref on the Turf.

I presume their sub knew the score in advance?

In the current climate, it might be repeated.

We opened the windows at St. Teds to try and hear the crowd if there was a goal. Got out at 3-15pm and legged it down to see the 2nd half. I'm sure they were still building the Bob Lord stand as I remember all the workmen stopping work and watching the game.

Took the afternoon off school to watch one of these games but I think it was against Hearts. You could see the steps leading up the back of the Longside from our classroom at St Teds and my plan was to stand there waving to my classmates shortly before kick-off.

I decided against it in case a teacher was watching.We'd already been threatened with the cane and I didn't want to get in even more trouble. Ended up with a detention and we won 5-0 so it was worth it. My classmates weren't happy though, they'd all been watching for the wave.

Freezing and their goalie Kevin Keelan played a blinder.

His last match of that season was the West Germany v Holland World Cup Final.

You are correct they were still building the Bob Lord Stand. I was at the game and yes indeed the workmen downed tools to watch the game.

It was during the 3 day week when the East Lancashire area only had power on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays.
The 2.15pm kick off on Tuesday was to enable the game to be finished before it went dark.

I seem to recall that we played a league game at home on a Saturday night against Sheffield United during the same period. Everyone had to work during the day on a Saturday, I think we bought/hired a generator to power the floodlights fir that game?

He was. It was originally going to be a 1pm kick off but Dave got in touch with the club and explained his train didn't arrive til 1.30pm so they moved the kick off for him.

Missed that one, but went to Newcastle for the final. I remember it was supposed to be over 2 legs, but because of the back log, I heard they did a deal that whoever won the FA Cup Semi Final would have home advantage in a 1 leg final. It just wasn't our year.
