Nothing's been erased, a statue of a Nazi sympathiser has been removed while discussions take place regarding its suitability for open display.

British history is vile. Travelling the world raping and pillaging. Then settling and suppressing the indigenous people. Over and above all that is the slave trade. Treating human beings as a commodity is beneath contempt.

It's not just British history though is it, it's history globally, but I don't see any other country trying to erase it.

I don't agree with some of his thoughts but soon all these "disagreeable" people will be forgotten and future generations will loose the knowledge of why such actions were wrong. Let's close Auschwitz too!

Theres a few biographies of Baden-Powell and none of them can agree completely on his views on nazism.

The Romans weren't exactly squeaky clean, there's enough monuments there to have a field day. While thinking of Italy, the Vatican has a slightly checkered past (and present) too.

Surely it's time to accept that anyone who has ever held any incorrect views on racism, sexism, homosexuality, or votes for women, should be regarded as the evil people that they were and deemed unfit to share this world with the enlightened ones. Remove all statues, remove all place names and other memorials of the dead, because none of these historic people are worthy to stand beside the wonderful, enlightened, and above all superior people of today.

I'm either supportive / ambivalent about the statue toppling so far. My only concern is we reach a stage where we're scratching around for things to topple and we just go after anyone who had views different to ours.
For example, I've seen plenty of stuff online about a statue of Thatcher being a target. I didn't like her, disliked her policies and thought she did huge damage to the country, especially the North. But if we start going after things like that, I think we're in the wrong.

There’s a statue of Edward 8th at Uni of Aberystwyth let’s have that down as his views towards Nazis were suspect. Let’s rip up the A1 as it was originally put there by Romans who were racist and used slave labour........let’s ban German imports of cars VW used slave Labour from concentration camps .... where does it end

Some of these statues are long overdue to be taken down. Let’s by all means keep them in museums with clear historical account of their achievements. But surely we know enough now to stop the public commendation of people who were involved in the slave trade, murderers and Nazi sympathisers.

In the present climate it would be difficult to put up a statue to JC.I note Mandela's statue seems safe as well as Ghandi's but neither were whiter than white were they?

I know of some old mills that employed children and had awful safety records by modern health and safety standards so let’s pull them all down. They are a symbolism of something that doesn’t reflect modern attitudes. They might upset some wokes or millennials.
