With travel restrictions being eased over the coming weeks are any of you off on your usual summer holiday?
Will it be as usual though? Will restaurants, bars and pools be open?
Do you think there is any bargains to be had?
Or is it too risky to go?

I will be staying in this country.
Try and give support to our tourism sector.

Funny really , read the English news and they they think it will all open up , now here in Ireland they said it's all up to the EU .
Make your mind up really as the UK had more deaths in one day than the whole of Europe . What do you think will happen

I hate flying at the best of times, with all the extra aggro of face masks and socially distanced queues not a chance I'd do it this summer. Hoping to have a few short breaks in this country though.

I'd go to Padiham Leisure, have a swim and sit in the Steam and Sauna rooms and pretend I'm abroad.
If only it was open but let's prioritise fatness over fitness

Long story but we had to fly to Croatia to get to Montenegro as it was some what cheaper .
Now Flights are are better than 60% what we paid to fly direct this is a real winner .
We will not find out until July 6th if we will not have to have 14 days in quarantine when we get back but decided it was was worth the risk .

We’re going nowhere in the short term.
Sister-in-laws family wanting to move over here but currently it’s a 14 day quarantine this side and the same when they get home. They need to come house hunting before the big move.

It seems the virus has disappeared, the only way to even remotely control the virus would be to ban unnecessary air travel. As soon as people start flying around Europe again without a vaccine we are in big big trouble.

Lake district in August - booked it last year, seems to be coming good.
Anglesey booked in April - cancelled. Spain planned in May - cancelled.
Was thinking somewhere longer distance later this year....
But, travel insurance excludes cover for covid-19, both getting sick and needing to cancel whether down to "a second peak" or me/family getting ill means that I can't travel.
Anyone travelling to EU countries, take your EHIC 111. It will still be valid until 31st December.
It's been like being on holiday these past 3 months, great weather and not doing a lot. However, some of that is down to me retiring in March....

There are some companies including Covid now in their holiday insurance policies
Plus Nationwide have one of their current accounts with those benefit packages including annual holiday insurance cover and I’m sure I read somewhere it included Covid cover.

We are borrowing my mam and dad's campervan and heading for Normandy. We were supposed to be using it this weekend for Glastonbury, but hey oh. Festival tickets and campervan field tickets now transferred to next year, if it's on.

The government should have instructed all travel insurance companies to include insurance for the covid-19 with no exceptions with introducing a small premium on top of the cover quote, it's no different to instructing all banks/building societies to offer the mortgage holidays for the initial 3 mths although that's been extended further.

They didn’t instruct the banks / building societies. They asked them.
Some insurance companies have included Covid in their holiday insurance cover.

True, but effectively the difference between costing you your home & the other potentially costing you your life, I know which 1 I thinks most important.

Trailfinders (and one or two others I think) travel insurance covers for Covid both pre trip cancellation and while abroad.

It became emergency legislation if that's not a instruction I don't want is! I never specified any differences between homeowners & people renting or landlords in my earlier post you assumed.

Should have gone to budapest last week for the euros (portugal vs one of possibly 7 teams) and then flown to gibraltar straight after to stay in a villa in San Roque for 10 nights. Both got cancelled.
Booked 2 nights in Brussels mid September at the beginning of the year which will hopefully happen, just got to wear masks on public transport and observe social distancing whilst there

Holidays are only being allowed to save airlines, the tourism industry and to get the chavs off uk beaches. You are not allowed to go the pub, restaurants and it’s one in one out in some shops, most toilets aren’t open, you can’t get your haircut yet and don’t have to go to school if you feel it’s not safe but you can sit cramped up in a plane and congregate in the airport. Quick let’s book something quickly. No thanks. Furlough needs stopping and people need to get back to work if it’s so safe.

It doesn't seem to make any sense, you can be in a busy shopping centre & go on cramped public transport whilst other safer activities are off limits. The government should have waited until everything was safe instead we are seeing complete madness until hopefully somebody with half a brain decides to restore normality.

As long as it takes, the whole idea was supposed to be about lifting when things were at a manageable level, we seem to be at a situation where certain things are open & certain things are shut, I think packed shopping centres pose more risk than a hairdressers shop when you might have 1 or 2 people in the shop or you could do by appointment only, but for some strange reason it's considered safer sardines in a tin at shopping centres.

We had already planned to miss going away this year for first time ever.
Flying with two babies would be more aggravation than it’s worth. For them as much as anything. Unfair to put them through all that.
When Covid hit we had no holidays booked and don’t feel like we are missing out because we hadn’t planned.
So not bothering and not tempted.
That said I imagine we will be allowed to go through summer. Then banner again in winter. So god knows when the next chance is.
But if we do go anywhere probably somewhere Quiet and in a caravan in this country this year.
Staying in a busy area, or one where everything is closed anyway has no appeal at all. Nor does staying in a hotel with hundreds of other people. Catching a plane etc.
I’m not unduly concerned about the virus. But the extra restrictions and everything being closed isn’t a holiday anyway.

yowzer, makes me feel tired just reading that lol. How old are the children, my grandchildren are 5 & 3 and got new hiking boots in the last few weeks for this and they will all be doing lot's of walking but not running, perhaps leisurely bike rides but doubt for any distance. It's a shame the pool will be closed as they usually really enjoy going, especially the eldest. Our son is made up the pubs will be open obviously

My daughter is two in October and my son has just turned 4
Often the only way I can get in some decent runs or rides is when I go early so I’m back for breakfast
I’ve not been to the lakes since I was a child so
Very much looking forward to it

I would be apprehensive about flights, months of planes parked up rusting away, with around 27000 redundancies in that sector.
some of them will have to be bump started, clutch in , second gear!!!

Rusty planes

. Where could they have been parked to get more of a beating than doing 100s of mph at 30,000 ft?
Plus the idea of a $100m plus aircraft being left to “rust away” is just daft.

Yes, this thought had crossed my mind too.
And all those planes were built with parts from companies who supplied the lowest price-tender.
Makes you think...

I don’t imagine they’ve gone rusty. But I imagine many of the parts are designed to be operational as much as you say. That may be the problem. I.e. being underused (and with so many staff on furlough, undermaintained).
