The World now knows exactly who we are

Yesterday little Burnley became the first team this season to avoid defeat at the home of the Premier League. European and World Champions......Liverpool
What’s more we did it with a severely depleted team but more importantly we did it in front of a live World wide audience of many many millions.
Yesterday Burnley won way more than one Premier League point. They won more new fans than they could ever imagine. Yesterday was potentially one of the biggest days in our illustrious clubs history.
I hope and pray that he board will realize what the team just did and will fight tooth and nail to keep our key players and support Sean Dyche with the funding he will need to take us to the next level. Yesterday was HUGE

I don’t think there is a next level for us. I think for us staying at this level is the biggest challenge. Pushing to go to the “next level” is a very dangerous game, especially for a club our size. We’re on the lints now of what we can afford to pay for players, and pay players. It’s been said a lot on here, but I think it’s a true statement. “Be careful what you wish for”.
Let’s not rush, staying in the premier league is a priority, always, mid-table security is a goal, the forays into positions 10-7 upwards are the icing on our cake.
For me, Burnley FC, the board, the manager, the players are doing, and know what is required for our/their club.
Also, every game we play in this league is in front of a live worldwide audience. I think anyone who chooses to research our club, they’ll be more impressed with the way we’ve done what we’ve done. Rather than just another club with a sugar daddy who paid for everything.
Built not bought,
Slow and steady wins the race. UTC.

The city debacle seems a long time ago now. I was embarrassed to be a Burnley fan that day. Roll on a few weeks and I couldn’t be prouder. Days that we need to cherish these.

How can you be embarrassed to be a Burnley fan because of one or two idiots ? It’s like being embarrassed to be from a town because someone has committed a crime there. The bulk of the populationi are good like the bulk of Burnley fans.

Agee about this level we are at. Think Dyche’s argument is we need investment to maintain the level we are at. I am more than happy with this level though.

Never be embarrassed by a defeat to a team of the world's best.
They put 5 past most teams!
...ask Liverpool.
Now that is embarrassment!

The entry fee for feeling pleasure or happiness is an emotional connection. It is only natural to feel displeasure, unhappiness, or even embarrassment, when things don't go so well.

Eh ? The point is if you are a Burnley you should be proud of it full stop. Other people’s individual actions that you don’t like shouldn’t affect that.

Eh? What is it that you are proud of then, if it's not the collective impact of individual actions over a period of time?

You can be proud of your club and your team and it’s performances. You need never be embarrassed by the actions of people who claim to be fans. They are NOT in the control of the club. I felt no embarrassment at all by the banner at City, it wasn’t me and it wasn’t the club.

Ben Mee was embarrassed. Stanbill was embarrassed. Presumably because they regretted the association with our Club. If you care about something you can feel pain about it being damaged even if you weren't personally responsible for that damage.

That's fine Leisure but others are allowed to be. Perhaps those others felt pride at the huge number of fans we took to Wembley against Stockport, felt pride at the wall of noise at Derby, and felt pride at the town's reaction to the Orient game. If you didn't then you don't have to be embarrassed. You don't "know" the players either but that doesn't stop you finding joy in their achievements.

I was embarrassed about the banner at City, if you weren’t then that’s fine but don’t tell others how they should feel. I didn’t try to feel embarrassed it was my natural feeling.
When a several colleagues and work associates brought it up in conversation over the following days I couldn’t help but feel embarrassed to be associated in any way with the message on that banner.

The banner incident is history. The club dealt with it impeccably. Move on
Now to explain my thoughts on the next level. Obviously to stay in the Premier League is priority one. But instead of just having survival as the target I think we have already shown that our Manager and a fair number of our players are better than that. We are very close to being an established PL club but we are not quite there.
I am not advocating we bet the ranch, only that we support the manager and the current players by bringing in more players who can improve the squad and reduce the workload of the current players
There is only so much the human body can take. We have incredible fitness levels yet we still have at least our fair share of medium to long term injuries. Josh Brownhill has shown the quality of player we can and need to sign to move the club forward
My idea of the next level is to become an established 50/60 point per season club that can also be competitive in the Cup competitions. Anything beyond that is a bonus. Bournemouth are an example of what can happen very quickly in this league. UTC

Exactly......that banner set me back several years with friends who had stopped mentioning the BNP being a force in Burnley . I definitely found it embarrassing, in the same way as Rileybobs. Equally I've felt immense pride in our performances since the City game...moving to a new level yesterday. Was lucky enough to be able to watch it with my partner, brother and son yesterday and we nearly shouted the bloody house down !

I've never been embarrassed being a Burnley fan.
Maybe at times I've not been happy with things on or off the pitch, but never embarrassed being a Claret.

I'll have one more go just in case I've not been as clear as I had hoped. My point was that if you can take pride in the actions of "strangers" (eg our fans at Wembley, Derby & Orient), united by the common bond of supporting Burnley, then why wouldn't you feel embarrassment at the actions of those same "strangers"? I wasn't having a dig. I was trying to explain why some fans, me included, felt embarrassment from the actions of people we didn't know and had no personal responsibility for.

Disappointed as a person or as a Burnley supporter ? I thought the guy who did it was an idiot but he was nothing to do with Burnley FC. So no need to be disappointed as a Claret. Plus the club dealt with it brilliantly. If it disappointed you as a person that’s fine

both, very disappointed as a human being (probably bewildered rather than disappointed), disappointed that I knew it would throw incorrect assumptions on our great club and embarrassed for the media in the way that they chose to predictably handle it the way they did.

Sorry bud, I meant embarrassed. I could be accused of cynicism here I think but after the banner incident this board was full of people instantly condemning it and saying how they felt so embarrassed etc., but I couldn’t help thinking that many (most?) were doing so out of a feeling of being seen to condemn it, because not to do so would somehow make them complicit.
Either way each to his own. Sorry again about the mix up of wording, my mistake.

Because I know the difference between feeling embarrassed and disappointed.
When I spoke to various work associates over the following days and they made comments and jokes about the banner I felt embarrassed to be associated with it. Some of these people don’t usually engage in football chat with me so the fact that they associate me with this incident was embarrassing.
Weird how people are telling me how I did or didn’t feel.
