"Who wouldn't want players who have a good attitude?"

Not Rocket Science is it?

Great to hear him heaping praise on the players. His rationale for sticking more to the Uk player market than the European player market also makes sense.

Still showing his frustration with the board and their lack of ambition with spending. Dyche was talking about how healthy the club's finances are and he isn't asking them to rip that open, but to show some more ambition.

He always impresses me when he's in front of the cameras and on live radio. That it not an easy thing to do. If you've ever done it, you'll understand what I mean.

He's not going to say to the board "I'm going nowhere." That would be stupid. If he leaves a doubt in their minds, then he's more likely to get more of what he wants. He might also get offered a new contract as he's made it plain that he doesn't think contracts should be allowed to run down.

I think he wants to stay, but he also wants as much as he can get, both for the team and himself. Can't blame him for that.

He still sounds very upbeat, and that's surely a good sign?

I didn't hear it like that. He wants the board to stretch, understandable, he doesn't want the club to break, again understandable. It's a fine line, and you'd expect them to be on different sides of that line. That's just the reality, it isn't necessarily an issue.

Loved it when he was talking about the club having had to, in the past, sell players to build stands etc. Shows that he knows the club and "gets" us.

He understands that the club can't go too far with the spending and wouldn't want to do that either.

Always speaks so well and I just hope that another 4 or 5 years down the line we are still listening to him talking as the manager of our club.

Only heard the last bit , he listed all the players we have bought from clubs outside the Premier League for relatively small transfer fees. A very impressive list of first teamers we have since developed .
He said his message to the board now is that these lower league clubs no longer want 2-3 million, they're looking for 10 million for these types of players .
Although he did say Covid might reduce the asking fees in the immediate future.

Supports my view expressed elsewhere that a fund of £20-30m should increase squad numbers to a level where we can maintain our position in the Pl and sell Crown Jewels in 12 months in a better market and when their replacements have matured.

If one of our Crown Jewels receive an offer now that we or that cannot refuse then we have to deal with it now but that isn’t bad management just how it is

They're ALL Crown Jewels. A LB who's happy to play R W to help out. A longest serving player who's happy to play once in a Blue Moon. They are all just fantastic.

It would take a man with a heart of stone to just walk away from a group of players like that and I don't think Sean is that sort of man. I think he's staying and I've been saying it all through this newspaper speculation.

Top clubs yes, but Taylor, Mee, Wood and Barnes would interest most bottom half PL teams and certainly newly promoted ones wouldn't they?

I can't see Leeds sticking with Bamford, so expect them to go back in for Vydra. I just hope now SD was forced into playing him, he's seen that he's someone we need to keep. He'd do a brilliant job for Leeds with the way they play. It would be a terrible decision if we sold him.

You could be right but I think a combination of age and length of contract would mean they are not top of the list. as Factual Frank says Vydra might be a target at the right price

Spot on.
I don't think he has the detailed understanding of the finances - especially the future finances - he is suggesting he does.
To be fair I doubt very much many managers do - its not there job to.

I heard the TalkSport feature this morning and as usual he spoke very well.

In terms of the finances and stretching them a little "without breaking them" I suppose it all comes down to how much. It`s not clear how far away from each other SD and the chairman are but in terms of the wage bill its not hard to see that year on year we have been stretching this by a not insignificant amount. How much we spend on transfer fees in the next year or so is probably a sticking point and again its hard to understand the difference between what SD wants and what we have available....and there is probably the element of the unknown for MG that he is still waiting to find out in terms of next seasons TV money.
It`s not an easy situation for the club at the moment.....but thank goodness we have been brilliant on the pitch !!

Sean Dyche knows far more about finance in football and business in general than you would ever think. This knowledge was very relevant when he was interviewed for the job, he surprised quite a few people. Remember his family background taught him a lot about business.
He was also very knowledgeable about the requirements at a club like ours.

I know there are a few on here that think SD's timing is poor with some statements, but I back him 100%. We basically have to decide whether we want to build on this great foundation by being more ambitious, or pass up it up and let this platform crumble away. If we had an average manager that I thought would spend money on idiots or average players, I'd perhaps feel more cautious about spending to progress, but I trust Dyche to spend wisely. My perspective is that if we buy good young players, we can grow their value, so in some ways the more we buy the more we make (assuming we buy the right ones).

Possibly - but to say the club are in a very strong / great financial position at the moment isn't really taking into account the uncertainty about the future and the impact of the reduced TV money.
Our most recent accounts were around break even and he will have know the increase in staff at the club that will be impacting on the June 20 accounts which are likely to show a loss.
Maybe he is playing a clever game with the media but the club are not in the strong financial position he was suggesting this morning.

Just think what David Silva would bring to this team. Free transfer, 2 year deal £5million signing on fee -bargain, 35 in January. I expect he will want to go back to his native Spain sadly.

Unbelievably fantastic footballer.
But sadly going to play in Qatar on a reported £220k a week 2 year deal (or something similar to that)

But what a turnaround, and all credit to Dyche.

Leeds couldn’t afford Vydra imo. Leeds will be in our mini league so to speak. Players rarely move from one club to another in the top 6 or from one of the lower clubs to another. Bot when fees are involved any road. Leeds would have to pay big money for him.

No idea how much tbh but it’ll be upwards of £20m. They’ll be our rivals in staying up, that’s what our first target always will be. We can’t sell important players to teams around us. Plus Vydra has a huge part to play next season. Doubt Barnes will play much before the new year. He hasn’t played for months and they’ll be no proper pre season this year. So for Barnes to be starting, we could be waiting a while.

I've said on other threads I think Vydra has over taken Barnes in the pecking order to play (something I never thought I would say), he's given us a very good option to play a different (much better imho) way

They have an investment from Qatar on the table now they've got promotion. And they've had another from someone linked with PSG, so there's going to be a lot of money going into Leeds, there's nothing surer.

They've already spent £15 million on Costa from Wolves. I expect they'll be knocking on the door to £100+ million before next season and in the mid-season window. They're bound to attract much more investment than us, unfortunately.

Anyone who thinks Leeds will be hampered by finances next year is no more than half right - I will say that I am in no doubt that they will have significantly more to spend than we do.

I fully expect Leeds to be in the same group as Everton, West Ham, Leicester and Wolves in terms of revenue (only Eurpean involvement will separate this group in revenue) - they are already on a par with them for commercial income (which they will grow significantly I expect) and around double ourselves and that is the Championship. If fans are allowed back in I expect them to sell out the season and increase ticket prices - that would bring in around at least 5 times what we could.

The prospect of a Qatari buy-in of a minor stake is real and could boost funds if it is used that way, it would need to be below 10% but that could generate £30m - £50m, (a takeover does not really make sense for a long term view unless they plan to ditch PSG which itself doesn't make sense in terms of global positioning)

Leeds do face some significant costs on promotion, their accounts state they will be subject to £19m in promotion bonuses, there is a loan to be repaid to former owners of around £4m and then there needs to be significant infrastructure upgrades to meet the Premier League requirements which could be as much as £10m.

Head to head with us financially they will be starting from a lower cost base but expecting between £40 - £60m more in revenue, this gives them room in both wages and amortisation to make 3 or 4 substantial signings - even allowing for an uplift in current players salaries - which is all they probably need to survive/thrive without disrupting the current squad.

Leeds are a club that have finally gotten their act together and absolutely everyone is on the same page as to what they are doing and are intending to do - we know how powerful that can be.

I’d be more concerned about losing our manager to Leeds than any of our players, as Bielsa won’t be there forever and they are the type of club I think he would leave us for, based on their potential.

I meant couldn’t afford in a way that it’ll cost them a lot more to get Vydra than a player with similar ability abroad or in the Championship. Vydra isn’t worth £20/25m but that’s what they’ll have to pay.

I think they'd go foreign again if Bielsa left, which I don't see happening any time soon. SD doesn't seem the sort of manager they'd go for.

Good point, what both Fulham and Villa did was buy a host of big names, but neither built a team, hence why Fulham dropped and Villa are likely to follow suit.

You can buy all the players in the world, but if you can't mould them into a team unit you'll struggle at any level, never mind the elite league.

I think its more that no matter what route you take surviving your first year in the Premier League is difficult. Some clubs will spend big and do well and some clubs will try to mould a team and get relegated like we did

Villa had to sign half their players just to keep the same team as it was loan players who helped get them up. If they'd have still had Tammy Abraham they'd have probably been ok so it has more been about not replacing one of their best players from their promotion push rather than signing too many new players for me.

Fulham's owners on the other hand lost the plot. If they'd have backed the manager with the money to just make the changes he wanted rather than demanding loads of big names and then sacking him then they might have had a chance but even then like with our first season they were always gonna struggle

My impression all along has been that what really upset him was the failure to keep members of group on board. Building up such a tight squad where everyone looks out for everyone else brings with a real sense of group solidarity, and I think what really hurt was that we weren't able or willing to keep Aaron Lennon and Jeff Hendrick. Perhaps Joe Hart as well who even when not playing was very much a part of the band of brothers who make up our squad.
