Wood and Vydra?

Post by BeijingClaret » Mon Jul 13, 2020 8:22 pm

Saw the thread asking which one you’d have presumably partnering Jay Rod. However how would you think these two would work together?

I think they'd work well together.

They might work well together, but you can't possibly drop Jay, he's the in-form striker.

It wasn't that long ago that Barnes and Wood were the obvious front pairing. That's why our current 4 are sorted and we don't need to be in any rush to sell or replace any of them. It's a position where we're absolutely fine in and can concentrate on other areas.

I’m happy with most positions in the side now, certainly with 4 strikers that all look like they’ve 10 goals a season in them at this level

Our front 4 now are well balanced. Any 2 can play well together. It’s not like when we had Vokes and Barnes who couldn’t play together. In terms of quality right now I’d go Wood, Rodriguez, Vydra, Barnes. Rodriguez is the best at dropping in on the ball, Vydra is the fastest, Barnes causes chaos and Wood is the best goalscorer and best in the air.

Can't recall Wood and Vydra starting together very often if a tall so it's to be tried as such.
I think they could do well together. They're different so could complement
each other and offer us some variety upfront.

You could make a case for pairing any two of our four main strikers, but at the moment it's impossible to drop Jay. On fire in front of goal, and his link up play is better than the rest as well. He might hit a patch where he misses a few chances, but I doubt his link up play will deteriorate.
