Brentford will struggle in the Premier league

If Brentford make it up they will really struggle.

They have a lot of technically gifted players but there finishing and defence is really quite poor.

Benrahma is very good but he has missed at least 3 clear cut chances.

Let’s hope they go up. I imagine it will be another Norwich

Think Fulham will have learned a lot from last time. Another 100 million on players will help too.

If they throw another £100m at it, it will probably prove that they learnt nothing.

A season in the Premier League will do a club like Brentford a whole heap of good.
The reputed £170m can allow them to consolidate and look forward with financial security.
Our first season in the league enabled us to lay foundations to come back bigger and stronger as a club and now we're reaping the rewards.
Yes Brentford will struggle with such a short break to prepare but they won't complain.

They might struggle, but many said the same about Sheff Utd, anyway they've not made it up yet, so it's premature to assess their prospects. It seems 90% certain that a London team will be promoted via the playoffs, so for the fans who travel you could be facing another trip to the capital.

Whats the capacity of the new ground, what sort of crowds do Brentford get?

17,000 capacity I remember reading and, having driven past it on the M4, that looked about right. As for their crowds they will definitely fill it in the PL .

They get between 11-12 thousand roughly, the new stadium only has a capacity of slightly over 17 thousand, so if they make the big time their home attendances will be lower than ours. But in this day and age crowds don't generate a huge amount of a clubs revenue, hence why Bournemouth have been able to compete on crowds of 12k or so.

Brentford were the top scorers in the division and only Leeds conceded fewer goals.

I wonder how they have managed to get to the play off final at Wembley when both their defence and finishing are both quite poor?? 😄

You obviously haven’t been watching them tonight.

Should have scored 7-8 missed so so many good chances. They will only get 1-2 chances a game in the prem.

The defence they had out tonight would get ripped apart by most teams in the prem. weak and very few player tracking back to help. Basically the exact same as Norwich when they went up

Yeah you’re right, ignore the full season let’s just base their finishing/defending off 1 game they won 3-1, in that case we are sh*te at defending and scoring because we lost 5-0 against Man City.

With a few flair additions I don’t think there’d do too bad, you only have to be a odd point or so better off than the teams in that mini league down there & scrape odd bonus points, I think there would make a fine fist of it if a couple of things swayed in there favour,

Saw them earlier in the season against Leicester. Looked to play attractive football but looked a bit toothless. Of course they may have improved dramatically but on that showing they'd need a few players with Premier League nous brought in. Looked a bit powder puff. Nice to watch though.

Ive been watching them all season not just basing my views on 1 particular game.

So you are saying they should have scored 8 goals against Swansea?

Swansea are one of the form teams in the Championship yet they could only score 1 goal against such a poor Brentford defence? And that was a mistake from the Brentford defender!

Stop digging yourself into a hole.

They play pretty football and have had a great season, but remind me very much of Norwich.

There is not a lot of experience in that team and I fear they have quite a soft underbelly. I doubt they would have the finance to bring in the type of physically strong, powerful players they would need through their spine to survive. Sheffield United have surprised everyone with just how well they have done, but they had the likes of Egan, O'Connell, Stevens, Basham, McBurnie etc who are aerially fantastic and physically very fit. I look at that Brentford side and I see a very technically impressive side with some 'lovely' footballers, and then a lumbering Pontus Jansson who I do not personally believe will cut it in the Premier League. It also remains to be seen whether Benrahama, Watkins and Mbuemo have the goals in them at this level as it's a totally different kettle of fish scoring in this league, and many fail to step up. If they don't they really are stuffed.

I think they will struggle after an initial early bounce, should they win at Wembley. I wish them luck though as it's always great to see new teams break into this league.

At what point in a season do we stop struggling?

On the train back from the 0-0 at Newcastle we got talking to a few geordies who were convinced they were going down. They ended up pretty safe but were struggling quite far into the season.

Pontus Jansen is a good centre back. He’d have a cracking battle against either Wood or Barnes. Don’t judge him on that shocking error. Temporary brain freeze. I’ll have to check his age. Didn’t he deliver the killer pass for the first goal?

Yeah they look very good, not sure how much they will have to invest if they do gain promotion though. I’d love us to nab Watkins and Benrahma but given they rejected £20M for Benrahma last summer those two look financially out of reach.

The time to nab Ollie Watkins was when he was the standout player every week at Exeter City but snapped up by Brentford for a reported £1.8m.

Brentford definitely pick up some bargains and not all of them from overseas leagues.
