There is nothing to sort, you bill is reduced by half up to £10 per person no alcohol included. If you had something to eat and a soft drink and it was £20 they reduce it by £10 anything less than £20 and it reduces accordingly.

Just taken advantage at a pub in Wimborne as we start our journey home from holiday. Brilliant value!

On the other they are trying to tackle obesity.

They can't go hand in hand.

it's a pointless exercise in my opinion and an unnecessary use of public funds. I'd rather seen higher taxes on unhealthy supermarket ready meals and the like with campaigns to eat better quality fresh food including making it cheaper, instead of this type of blatant bribery.

Of course they can. Eat somewhere that offers healthy options and choose one of them. The government is encouraging eating out, not eating more.

Some dubious places on there. Is it basically subsidising a canteen at BooHoo?

I guess some will always criticise whatever any government do.
In my view this initiative is a really good idea and it will definitely provide a boost to a very hard hit sector.

Obesity is a completely different issue and it’s good that this has been recognised as a major problem and something needs to be done.
As others have said you don’t need to eat junk food using the eating out scheme...and most people won’t.

I’m not sure some people realise how many businesses are on the brink.

I believe the Gov have introduced numerous initiatives (including this) in regard to coming out of the worst of it and looking to get the economy up and running quicker than if left to it's own devices through the general population and they should be applauded for it.

Certainly nothing like this in the USA, also all though I do not know I have not seen similar schemes mentioned regarding the EU for example.

The other interesting measure which was Sweden seems to rarely get a mention these days as a point of reference, when applied to the Virus versus economy debate.

I just ate at a local village pub, I’d suggest booking though, I was told they were booked up for the rest of the day.

Pass it at least once a week, usually always a couple of people there or vehicles in the lay by.

Apparently meant to be decent too.

Some places already complaining that it won't help at all as people will now go out eating Monday to Wednesday and avoid the alcoholic beverages instead of Friday to Sunday and have a few pints with meals so they could end up worse off.

Government HAS to do something wrong. People can't possibly take personal responsibility for what they eat.

A comparison of Denmark, which had a firm lockdown, with Sweden,
with its notoriously light-touch approach. Aggregate spending dropped 29 per cent in Denmark and 25 per cent in Sweden.

These stats are a week old, but Sweden are/were in the top 5 regarding Corona deaths as a proportion of the population.

You do realise there are healthy options to eat when you dine out? And even if someone decided to eat crap everyday it only lasts 3 days a week for a month.

Hi Zlatan, why, what is wrong with a business making a profit? If they don't make a profit they will shutdown, that business will no longer exist and their employees will lose their jobs. Nothing good comes from not making a profit.

Nothing wrong with a business making profit, everything wrong with multinationals exploiting government generosity for ADDITIONAL profit.

The Boo Hoo restaurant might be interesting to visit.

I've booked 3 nights in hotel in Lakes later this month. Booked it last year when no one had heard of covid-19. The only thing is I'm booked for Sat/Sun/Mon. Am I missing out on my £10/meal off at least twice a day, dinner and breakfast?

Couple of points. Firstly, the multinationals have been impacted on as much as anyone else and could potentially put more people out of work. Secondly, a lot of the chain restaurants are franchises so owned by much smaller companies.

Nothings ever gonna be perfect but this sounds like a good initiative to me. Will be going to the pub for my lunch on Wednesday and might even splash out for a pudding seen as it will all be half price.

If it helps my local and other surrounding businesses get through this current situation a little easier than im all for it.

It's for participating café/restaurants, not those who are on HB tariffs while staying in a hotel.

if you are over 50 it's best you get out and enjoy this before they lock you in your home.. this is just madness, we need to keep social distance much better than we could do in restaurants and pubs.
