They're saying Brighton are pressuring the government to allow fans to take beers to their seats when they are let back into grounds. I don't know what the chances are but to make sure we know what they mean they've put a picture of a Burnley fan downing a pint on the back page.

Some grounds won't even let you have a lid on your drinks bottle when you purchase it in the ground so booze has no chance

There's a lad from Keighley looks a bit like him, sits in CF stand and known as Bomber. Not the best pic to say for certain, but he has a beard and likes a pint.

Not been permitted since 1985 when Thatcher put a stop to it. It's allowed at all other sports and there is a big groundswell of opinion now from clubs to try and force the issue to allow drinking.

Stops people congregating on the concourses

One of the joys of going to non league footy is having a pint watching. That's been buggered for me by Altrincham getting promoted to the Conference though, as that's the lowest level it's banned.

It would certainly create more room in the concourse, I've been to watch football in stadiums where you can take your beer to your seat and it was nothing like I imagined, then again they weren't British.

I'm caught on this one. The beer ban is arbitrary and illiberal and it's unfair that only football is chosen.

On the other hand, the idea that people can't go 45 minutes without having a beer whilst watching football is pathetic. You can always down a pint of freezing cold swill at half time.

I’ve had a beer at baseball in the US and gigs in europe and the US. Our drinking “culture” is far too immature in comparison.

If it is our drinking "culture" that is at fault why, is it that I can go and watch Rugby League throughout the season and also on the Magic Weekend, which has four games one day and three the next, and I can drink whilst watcing the game and have never experienced any problems.

I watch a bit of rugby and one of the most annoying things is the constant up and down of people going to the bar, going for a ****, going to the bar, etc

I wouldn't mind being able to take a beer up to your seat bought pre-match or half-time (probably with some restriction on the number) but bars open during the match will be really bloody annoying.

You'd be hard pressed to argue against the view that drunk football fans will be more likely to cause trouble.

There have, and always will be, a section of fans who like to get drunk and behave like idiots, whether they're in the UK or travelling abroad.

Difficult to explain the total ban in any other way though.

It is mostly just football fans that can’t behave themselves. Or a far larger percentage of them can’t compared with the sports you mentioned. Cricket, darts and horse racings knobhead fans element is also starting to rise because of the same sort of lads.

As stated you can drink alcohol in stadiums in other parts of Europe. When I went to a match at Freiburg a couple of years ago there were folk drinking beer on the terraces. It was served in plastic mugs. What was pretty cool was that you paid a deposit for your mug and the handle was shaped such that you could clip it onto your belt after you’d finished drinking.
You can also smoke on the terraces over there which is pretty radical these days. It was a real throwback, reminded me of the Turf in days gone by.

There is the odd bit at horse racing, when the chavs are suited up and drunk but that's it.

When beer was allowed in grounds we used to savour our drinks.

Unfortunately we are plagued with immature fans who like to throw it everywhere at the slightest opportunity so I can't see it being overly popular.

If they are trying to kick each others heads in at football ground then it is unlikely to be due to drink consumed in there unless they have drunk excessive amounts in the concourse bars or being drunk when they enteted. So, like any other bad behaviour, they should not be allowed in or ejected, arrested and banned.

Clubs don't stop drunks attending and they don't monitor how much someone drinks in the ground.

Someone could sink 5 pints in the ground before a game, chuck in a couple more at half time and an idiot will start behaving poorly.

We have fans that feel the need to throw plastic bottles, lighters and coins at opposing players, some of those people will be drunk, others sober.

Football fans can have a tendency to behave like prats.

I'm torn on this. I do enjoy a pint or two before the game and one at half time (albeit the beer isn't the best at t'Turf) and would love the opportunity to sit with a pint and watch. That said. You have the ones who can't hold their drink and as said above. It's bad enough as it is when people are going to/from seats. It'd be happening a lot more often if people were constantly going back and forth to the bar/toilet.
Maybe a voucher (no cash during the game) policy could work. Where you have one voucher per ticket and that is assigned to your seat. There's no reason why you can't make a pint last 90 minutes. If you're buying say 4 beers for you and your mates, you need their tickets to go to the bar and they have to be seats adjacent to one another?

You can drink alcohol (and smoke) in your seat at Bundesliga games.
