He’ll have to self isolate for 14 days!
As a none national will he be eligible for the £13 a day?

If he can't agree a deal with City and reunite with Pep, it wouldn't surprise me if he was still a Barca player next season.

He's still favourite with the bookies to stay at Barca and sign a new contract. Which wouldn't exactly be that surprising.

Manchester City are favourites for understandable reasons but there are a variety of English clubs where Messi would fit in nicely...
Burnley
Burnley manager Sean Dyche engaged in some upbeat banter with journalists last week when he joked that Messi had agreed to join the Clarets.
But what if the Barca captain did just that? Would Messi trotting out at Turf Moor in claret and blue help the club or hinder them?
Since returning to the top flight under Dyche in 2016, Burnley have averaged 40 league goals per season. In the same period Messi has averaged 33. Seems like an easy win, then, to add the Argentine to Burnley's attack, but remember: Barcelona have averaged 98 goals per season in the same period, which is 2.45 times as many as the Clarets.
Apply that Burnley goal reduction to Messi (he's good but has he ever truly felt the cold touch of an evening game in mid-Lancashire in February?) and his average is reduced to about 13.5 goals.
So, in the realm of what Chris Wood produced for the club in 2019-20.
Am I saying Wood is as effective a player as Messi? No. Am I saying Wood offers more when defending corners? Probably, yes.

But we might be more flexible with his image rights. You're being a bit naive thinking it's all about headline salary in this day and age.

Seriously tho, if he came here, he’d have to wait for his chance. No one is a guaranteed starter here.

Weren't Man City's owners under the impression they were buying Utd. Perhaps we could do the same sort of thing with Messi.

I just wish he'd make a decision, this saga is rapidly becoming boring already, and it's taking up far too many column inches, yes it's Messi, but he's 33, and anyone that pays his release clause has more money than sense, sadly there is plenty of club owners who do have more money than sense in the modern era.
No good to us as he wouldn't reduce the average age of our squad, we've already got too many the wrong side of 30

And his ego would destroy the dressing room spirit that we have. Apparently he wants to move to City to give himself the chance to win the Ballon d'Or a couple more times.

What release clause? I heard he had something in his contract that allowed him to leave as a free agent at the end of last season? As long as he takes the option before the new season starts?

It has been noted that his team ethic has been sorely missing in the last couple of seasons at Barca, you do have to wonder whether the fame has gone to his head, there's no I in team, no matter who you are.

Had to hand in a transfer request before a specific date, in June, but his argument is the season didn't finish until recently so by default his date to request transfer also moved.

Which La Liga have said is incorrect and his release clause needs to be paid.
So, saga over. Will be dragged out another month before he signs a new contract, in my opinion.

I really can't see him moving anywhere. The chairman of Barca doesn't want that on his CV - that he's let the best player on the planet to leave his football club.
I expect him to patch things over and sign a very healthy contract.

This could potentially be tested in court.
The fact he's not turned up for Covid testing or training would suggest he's wanting to leave now.
On the radio they were saying he was planning this since last season, before the lockdown.

If so, you'd think he would have been sure to get his dates right and ask for a transfer before June 10th.

The season was suspended, I haven't seen the clause so I don't know if it had to be a set number of days before end of season or a set calender date.

We all know the season was suspended, so why would he take the risk of going past June 10th then hope to get away with it on a technicality when there's so much at stake? If he'd stuck to the original date, there wouldn't have been a problem.
That makes me think his decision to leave was very recent.

Can not believe a lawyer will have drafted a clause like this without it being a specific date. There won’t be any ambiguity over a clause that represents the difference between a free transfer & a £600m fee.
I think it’s an almighty PR stunt. If he wants out so much why doesn’t he just release a public statement?
