A steady player but not one that I ever saw the hype in.

Hardly a key player, didn't even play in half their games last season.

Good luck to him though, I thought he was an excellent player at Huddersfield.

I never did get the hype with him . I'm assuming Brighton were committed to signing him permanently in January after the loan.

Tony Hancock had a good game against us for Stockport in 1989 so we signed him. Apparently it was the only good game he had for Stockport and he certainly didn't have any good games for us.

And then we went and watched him and watched him and watched him and he kept turning in good performances. We were also keen to sign the Bournemouth left back Warren Cummings but he picked up a serious injury a few weeks later and didn't play again for 18 months. But then we got Spicer and O'Connor too from them. We did well really to get one really good signing out of three.

A couple of other players we signed on the back of cup performances against us.

Strange one with Garreth O'Connor. He started off really well but after a couple of months his form fell off a cliff and never got it back again. Didn't he score in about five straight games at one point? At that stage, I thought he was a better signing than Elliott. That quickly changed!

I think we all thought that O'Connor was going to the best of the three and Spicer also started really well after he signed. I think O'Connor had off field issues and his career just came to an end very early. When Cotterill left, Coyle gave him another chance; it lasted one short substitute appearance.

As for Wade, I know Cotterill's respect for him just grew and grew because he was a player who was prepared to work hard at his game and I think we all saw him just improve and improve. I wasn't surprised at all when Cotterill signed him for Bristol City.

I know. Was surprised at that. Had assumed he was a key player like he was Huddersfield.

Not a cup game, but Ian Moore.

I remember Cotterill’s signings (almost) all had the thing in common of a record of scoring goals from whatever position they played, like Brazil from the ‘82 World Cup. Forgive the comparison, but I’ve always thought it’s like a man who dates a variety of women who look and behave differently but all have impeccable butts. Cotterill achieved his peak team with Bristol City, who scored lots of goals from all over the pitch when promoted to the Championship under him.

Mooy looked like a very good player at Huddersfield but they were never a decent side by PL standards - don't think he was ever better than any of our regular CMs over the same period

He was a good egg at Huddersfield 1 of the standout performers, he was 1 of the type of players high end championship but maybe not quite good enough for the PL maybe a struggling premier league side, Brighton are no shakes & he couldn't command a consistent starting slot says it all.

Winston White was another good game against us signing.

One of the best 'good game against us' signings was Doug Collins after we played Grimsby in the cup I think it was. I've just checked his details, he was seventy five yesterday, Gee Whiskers I'm getting old.

I saw him a fair bit during Huddersfield promotion season as my father in law often had a spare ticket for their Tuesday night games.


He was brilliant that year for them. Ran the show.

No better than what we already have though.

A strange move but he probably wasn’t earning much at all until he signed for hudds permanently. He was a late comer to a decent level of football so he probably wants to get some cash. It’s a long time retired for footballers
