It might not reach us.
Any sensible person has blocked the plonker from social media.
If he really wanted to help the world he would sort that nonce of a brother out.

Brilliant.
Idiots like Grumps carping about Lineker's wealth, urging him to put his money where his mouth is - not that they would, you understand - and he does just that.........

Maybe some of you should save your angst for Priti Patel, rather than Lineker. Despite all her tough talking - a record 409 illegal immigrants crossed the Channel on Wednesday.

And Lily Allen.
Fair play to Lineker, though I note he is quoted as saying he is willing to help out on a TEMPORARY basis. Surely, if he is rattling around in an empty mansion, now all his children have grown up, he is in an ideal position to offer a migrant family accomodation on a more permanent basis.

Hopefully it won’t be a suicide bomber or Match of the Day will need to find a new presenter.( Maybe a good thing) Why doesn’t he criticisie the French Government’s handling of migrants and the traffickers more than our government. That is where the problem stems. Is it because it’s more current to criticise our government and will be supported by the BBC who pay his obscene salary ?

I couldn't give a toss about Lineker - he's not in power. The shower who are couldn't run a bath. We get tough talking, but that's all we get. Same with the World Beating App etc. It's all bluster and it's about the only thing they are good at.

To be fair, even though it will be a publicity stunt, he's still helping somebody out when they need it and that's what matters.

The migrants he is helping are often here, in an asylum status, temporarily aren't they? They are either granted full asylum, and allowed to remain in the country, or denied asylum and removed. Therefore I don';t see how he could help them permanently. Or am I missing something that all those calling him names on here have seen.

So a sucide bombing of Lineker "Maybe a good thing" ?
The problem lies with the French government and traffickers ?
It's more "current" to criticise our government ?
He'll be supported by the BBC ?
His salary is "obscene" ?
Some interesting assumptions there, Hogg.

Publicity stunt - nothing else to see after he has bashed this country for years on twitter but gets paid very very well from the state.
He would be better reducing his salary so pensioners can still get free tv licence - the bloke is a muppet

It’s a bit like giving beds to the homeless at Christmas, then making them homeless again afterwards. A plaster when a major operation is required.

If the migrants applying for asylum are allowed to stay, why couldn't he help them with accommodation on a more permanent basis. It would be a tremendous gesture and one where he couldn't then be accused of tokenism. It isn't that difficult to understand.

I'm guessing that they would find it difficult to find work and assimilate into society if they are cossetted within his home forever.
(I doubt, for example, that it's on a bus route).
Much better that families use his home as a staging post, they are then moved on, (one way or another), (hopefully can rent somewhere near to their employment), and then he takes another family.

I’ve always quite liked Lineker as a presenter, but why he uses his status to foist his politics upon us is anyone’s guess ? If he’d have done this quietly ,perhaps acted as a mentor /guardian to a genuine young asylum seeker and brought the guy up I’d have huge respect for him , but seems he’s just gloating ,ego massaging and virtue signalling . Has the king of gagging orders run out of nubile young ladies one wonders ?

Ha.. just admit he’s called your bluff here.
“Why don’t you put one up in your mansion if you love them so much, Gary?!”
He has.
“Yeah, but not for life though, that’s what we meant”
Give it up, he’s not virtue signalling. He’s actually doing something virtuous. And you’re getting angry because instead of just talking about being a better person he’s actually demonstrating that he is one.

It's not policy for failed asylum seekers to be removed from the country. They are expected to pay for their own travel back home or to another country of choice.
They aren't allowed benefits if they stay so either get supported or work illegally?

Only on this board could people find fault with someone doing a good deed, Lineker has put his actions where his mouth is, so all credit to him for doing so.
Now as to whether the current asylum system is fit for purpose is a different matter, but that's up to the HS and the government to fix, so if you're not happy then vent your spleen at them, and not Gary Lineker.

I wonder what effect on GL's BBC career the new BBC head Tim Davie will have? He's made his first official pronouncement today and, along with saying some slimming down is necessary, says
“If you want to be an opinionated columnist or a partisan campaigner on social media then that is a valid choice, but you should not be working at the BBC,” he said in a speech to staff at the BBC’s office in Cardiff. Davie said that staff will have to adhere to new social media rules that will be “rigorously enforced”.
I've heard quite a few old BBC stagers say that this (keeping schtum about your personal politics/opinions) used to be the case anyway but clearly it hasnt been thus for many years.
It'll be interesting to see if the £1.75 million salary outweighs Gary's need to impress us all with his views on social media.
