RIP Mike. A big Burnley fan, who knew his football.
I saw him at a lot of Dinners and as many times he'd told the Fruit Cake joke, I couldn't help but laugh like it was the first time I'd heard it. Whenever an auction was held as the last event of a Dinner, some guests had usually had a skinfull and got loud. Mike mainly kept his calm by calling sssshhhhh ssssshhhh. If that didn't quieten them, he would humiliate them with his one liners. Thanks for the memories Mike.

I had never heard of him before but with a name like Mike King (hope it wasn't his stage name), could he have been anything but an MC?

I think those that know it should share his Fruit Cake joke as a tribute.

By a distance the best MC I’ve ever seen at the many sportsman’s dinners I have attended.
Most of the time he was funnier than the booked comedian or after dinner speaker.

Without question when the speaker was ex Liverpool striker David Johnson, a speaker who could send a glass eye to sleep. Another King classic- thanks to the smiling bar staff. They're only smiling because they've got their hands in the till.

It was his real name but I’ve found something out about him tonight that I didn’t know. He was a copper.

Announcing the raffle prize winners. Third & fourth prizes were extravagant but second prize was just a fruitcake. Winner of fruitcake complained it was a poor prize but was told it was a special fruitcake because Mrs Gandhi had baked it. “F*** Mrs Gandhi,” he said only to be told that was the first prize.

It was funny when Kingy told it.
