(What's the Story) Morning Glory? - 25yrs old today

For me it's their 2nd best album after Definitely Maybe, but it was the biggest selling album in the UK of the 90's.
Hello is my favourite track on that album.

The only two great albums they produced. “Of a time“ but they were bloody good at that time.
Can’t believe it’s 25 years.

Sensational band - the feeling this band has/have created over many generations is phenomenal . Some much underrated songs on different albums too - not every album should be compared to the first two which were simply brilliant.
Would love to see them reunite for a tour or two.

Can’t agree with that. Thought Be Here Now was a great album.
If a new band released that they’d get loads of plaudits.
Massively underrated.

Be Here Now is pretty good too.
That is the product of being on top of the world. From a council estate to Knebworth in 2 years from their first release. Like them or not, they had it. Everything came rolling in big time for them before recording that album. Drugs, women, money, clothes, cars, abbey road.

If you listen to the shite that is on the radio these days then you can understand why generations of today seem
To land upon Oasis and relate how good they were and adopt it as their own

I know it's not a thread for me, and I apologise, but it still bewilders me how they got so big.
Not great musicians, and the orangutan at the front was buggered if he had do owt but emphasise vowels.
Of course the "lad" culture turned up just in time for them.
The sounds of the 90's are saved for James, The Charlatans and Ocean Colour Scene for me.

A brilliant band.
Compare them to the shite that gets to the tops of the charts now. People must be tone deaf.

That’s why they were big. People could relate to them. There’s nothing worse than a musician or someone who likes to play who comes out with all this nonsense blah speech. You know the types. College taught, middle class prats. They were “normal”. People who you’d see knocking about the estate, kicking a ball about. They were like the average Joe. They talked about getting out of the slump, wanting to be rich, famous. They were never afraid to tell it like it is. They had a dream and they made it. So many bands get into a brilliant, life changing position and yet still are boring as ****.

Those 3 bands you name were all very good and I still listen to them but early Oasis were just sublime. Those first 2 albums and the Masterplan compilation album were class.
Supersonic, Rock and Roll star, Live Forever, bring it on down, Slide away, all off the first album were favourites of mine amongst others. They just had catchy tunes and a swagger.
Be Here Now was good in it's own right, but was over produced. After that it all went downhill.

My 16yr old lad is a massive fan of Oasis, Slide Away is his favourite song, as is mine.
He doesn't understand how people listen to some of the shite that's out now.

HELLO
But, I have to disagree , Liam had that presence on stage that made him a fantastic frontman , his voice was brilliant for a good while too, albeit the way he sang absolutely smashed his ability to sing to bits at times , forcing him to walk off and let Noel take the reigns . Yes tantrums and handbags occurred but tell me you wouldn’t be the same at that age with the amount of money and fame they had thrown at them.
There was an aura about them, a euphoria, the last great band before the technology era took over and everyone watched gigs through their phones - nobody in the moment anymore .
Yes mobile phones are great I know but I have to say that watching people screaming and shouting and living in the moment is something I’d love to be apart of - almost like celebrating a goal being scored SOME MIGHT SAY? I miss it and I’m afraid the technology is pretty much a HEADSHRINKER to society in terms of looking through the lense. WHATEVER happens in the future I HOPE, I THINK, I KNOW, that they are one of the greatest bands ever. Anyone who wants to STAND BY ME on this, just know that it’s GOOD TO BE FREE, even in these HINDU TIMES. Anyway, let’s ROLL WITH IT and anyone who doesn’t agree, then GO LET IT OUT, it’s only my
Opinion so please DONT LOOK BACK IN ANGER.
True ROCK N ROLL STARS!
Enough of MY BIG MOUTH now IM OUTTA TIME I’m pretty tired, up early tomorrow and will no doubt have MORNING GLORY . STAY YOUNG clarets and LETS ALL MAKE BELIVE that the board pull out their MASTERPLAN before the transfer window ends , maybe they’ll sign a player from HALF THE WORD AWAY , D’YA KNOW WHAT I MEAN?

Still annoyed I never went to see them live. They were a little bit before my time but had a few chances in the early 2000s and passed up the opportunity.
Can't see them ever getting back together tbh. Neither of them will need the money, which seems to be the main motivating factor for most of the old bands reuniting. Would be a hell of a headliner for Glastonbury though!

Not really listened to any of their stuff in a while, but found myself listening to "dig out your soul" a few weeks ago.
They were massive back in the day weren't they.
Remember getting on a coach at the adelphi Hotel in Blackburn to go to Knebworth for the Sunday gig in 96
I was only 15 at the time. Some day out that

True, some didn't like oasis & stuck to James & other indie bands, you had britpop or indie or however you chose to describe it, blur & pulp were fashionable amongst the girls but oasis were more lads. Oasis were massive at the time & almost unfashionable for not liking them if you actually give a s**t at the time as some of us didn't.

Be Here Now is probably my favourite of there’s. If they’d had better production, toned down the excesses and weren’t on so much beak, it could have been classic.
Bit of an odd one in that there next few albums were dull as ditchwater yet their final album is fantastic. Shock of the Lightning and I’m Outta Time are two of the best tracks they ever did.

They certainly were a big part in creating the zeitgeist of the 90's but not my jam at all.
Formulaic, bland song writing but it did help transition music away from the saccharine pop of the 80's.
I can't deny their impact and fair play to them for their success. I still think there were much better bands around at the time who didn't earn a fraction of what Oasis did though.

I don't think anyone compared Blur and Oasis they just happened to be the two biggest bands of the britpop era and the 'competition' helped them to sell more records.
I only saw Oasis once, on their last tour and they were pretty poor to be honest. Dated dad rock cabaret, still trotting out 'I am The Walrus', so I think a reunion should be avoided.

I don't like getting into who's best debates as it is purely down to opinion but I prefer A Northern Soul to Urban Hymns.
The Verve, Super Furry Animals, The Boo Radleys, Spiritualized, Dodgy amongst others were all far more creative than Oasis.

Most Oasis fans if not all would agree that they weren’t the most talented musicians. Noel has even said it himself. Like I said further up. That’s not what they were about. It doesn’t matter if other bands were more talented, had a more diverse range of output. They never had the ability to bring millions of people together like Oasis could. If they could have found a field big enough, Knebworth could have been 4 or 5 times as big. They brought people together that weekend like England were playing the World Cup final.

Agree, I hate Parklife, though Girls and Boys was a great single. I love Modern Life is Rubbish, arguably the birth of Britpop (most of which was actually shite).

Oasis were ready for packing it in by the end if you compare it to the early concerts.
Maine Rd on the Saturday was just electric, sadly by the end the crowds had changed into massive gangs of Mancs and scousers scrapping. Cocaine and beer fuelled idiots.
Interestingly though I saw Noel at Bingley festival the other year and it was slowed down stuff that I hadn't heard before apart from a few Oasis classics, but he had the young crowd mesmerised. They never took their eyes off his performance.
For the young ones it would be like Christmas day Oasis doing another few gigs, like it was for me getting to see the Stone Roses back together. Yeah they were past their best but the crowd ambience was unreal. What a day that was.

Never got The Beatles tribute thing. They spoke about them yea, played some of their songs. But that’s it. All bands do it, which is important. I’ve listened to bands because bands I like speak about about them.
I’ve always thought Blur sound a lot more like The Kinks than Oasis did The Beatles. Blurs songwriting was very “Britishness” in a way The Kinks did.
