All accounted for.
Re: Match thread v Magpies
Dyche doesn’t prioritise pace and trickery, and Garlick doesn’t get deals done regardless. Recruitment is just unacceptable at all levels.

This is a disaster of a result. Dyche can’t possibly defend that. An on screen live resignation would be less surreal than defending this performance

Fair point about Newcastle and their acquisitions- thing is we actually had one of those and probably have ended up spending more in the long run replacing him

Re: Match thread v Magpies
I think embarrassing is pushing it (though the bench we had available for the first game was nothing short of it) But to me after 5 years of miracle-working and graft, Sean Dyche deserved backing. We saved for a rainy day, and it's pi**ing it down. We are a premier league club, and can sustain a relatively small amount of debt in the short term to give our manager the tools he needs to compete. It's too late now, so we'll have to hope he can perform another miracle and out squad stays injury-free.

Re: Match thread v Magpies
Not the best of nights. St Max on form and Pope off form.
Feel sorry for Pope as he would almost certainly have started for England had it not been for his rare cock up.
Hopefully, after the International break, Mee will be back and Tarky will be able to play in his rightful position.
We might be a different team then, especially if we sign a decent winger.

No words for that.
One of Dyche or Garlick needs to go and fast. We're in turmoil.

Apparently Newcastle fans think they have been playing poor this season. They should come into our world, then they would know what poor football is and that goes for the Manager and Chairman. Worst start to a top flight season in 93 years. Onwards and downwards

Won’t complain about the second but first and third were very avoidable goals. Look in trouble.

Do you remember when we had players like Blake and Little who could actually create something.
Hoof ball is plan A, B, C attached to 4-4-2.

Re: Match thread v Magpies
Heads went after the pen. Better for a while, but nowhere near where we will need to be. Dwight needs to be a luxury away, he is too weak to support the full back. If we can, we could really do with some muscle (and pace) in that team.

Re: Match thread v Magpies
Yes the spark is currently absent.
Mr Garlick must take a large amount of the blame here.
What's the point of a recruitment Czar and team, when there is no signing to be made, which could not have been made, in any case?

Poor all round, but our midfield neither protects the defence nor gives any creative service at all to our strikers. It's going to be a long cold winter for us I'm afraid.

Re: Match thread v Magpies
We had a bad start last season and really turned things around at Christmas, but we had a full team then and our club wasn't in an apparent state of disarray.
A poor transfer strategy and poor recruitment is at the heart of our problems. If the recruitment department suggests unrealistic targets that aren't available, don't want to come here or their transfer fees are outside our price bracket ( placing us in financial peril if we sign the cheques ) they have failed us and players.
Finish the window, ask the lads to dig deep and perform another miracle, allocate the blame to those who deserve it and have zero credit in the goodwill and previous success banks.
Dyche in, Garlick in, Rigg out.

This team would struggle to get back up. Well i say this team...quite a few would leave and wouldn't be replaced adequately..as seems the norm.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 10:00 pmIs there a chance that we are accepting relegation and confident of coming back up?

Re: Match thread v Magpies
We came out after half time and looked much better and got ourselves back in it. Then straight away they just went to our soft centre and it's 2-1. Far, far too easy for an extremely average to poor Newcastle team, bar one guy with a bit of something extra about him. What a bonus we aren't able to travel to watch!!

Re: Match thread v Magpies
The worrying thing is we have not spent money at this point so at the next transfer window if we are in dire straits it will probably be a case of why throw good money after bad? Eddie Howe will be available after Christmas, any thoughts?
Re: Match thread v Magpies
It's very difficult to see any positive signs off the back of this...there is clearly blame across the board. No investment, no recruitment in the right areas, shocking tactics on the field (at times). Luckily, we are only 3 games in, and now have a 2 week break...heads need banging together. For professional people to let this happen on their watch, is quite shocking.

Re: Match thread v Magpies
Boggles
Garlick invests heavily in recruitment, Dyche finds himself pushed out of the recruitment loop. Rigg is allowed to build the recruitment team he wants and he is given two years to get up to speed - while Garlick and Dyche face all of the questions and take all of the flack for our recruitment failures.
Garlick and Dyche have got us to where we are, the worked well together and things have fallen apart in the last two years - with things getting more toxic.
Rigg destroyed QPR in six months with his recruitment. At Fulham he wasted millions on two complete squad overhauls and took them from a recently relegated from the EPL position to fighting to avoid the drop to League One. At both of those clubs the backroom turned toxic, the players were unhappy and discord was rampant amongst the staff.
Our recruitment has reached new levels of poor, plenty of quality players were available at cheap prices in this window and we were in for none of them.
How can the bloke tasked with over seeing our recruitment strategy and assembling our transfer target list not feature in the blame game ?
Garlick is at fault, Dyche is at fault, why is Rigg not at fault ?

Re: Match thread v Magpies
The international break has come at a good time. We need to regroup, rethink our strategy and re-evaluate what we have. Places should not be guaranteed and should be up for grabs.
The decision to play Barnes after 9 months out was disgusting in my opinion. Vydra hasn't exactly set the world alight but he came in the back end of last season, got a few important goals and showed us all something. With Jay out injured he should be next in line, he has deserved it for his loyalty and commitment recently. That was a slap in the face from Dyche tonight and basically said you'll never be considered a starter here. If I were him, I'd be off before Monday night if his agent can sort something. He's wasting his time here.
Barnes comes back in & surprise surprise we play hoofball crap. He starts rolling around like a primadonna every time he's touched and rightly or wrongly is always involved in petty fouls. Sometimes it goes for us, most of the time it doesnt. If anyone needs replacing in the transfer window it's him. He's a bencher, good to bring on to rough it up when needed but we need better. Never gonna happen I know but we can dream, right.

Re: Match thread v Magpies
I'm not talking about debt for it's own sake. Taking debt on as a business in order to invest is completely normal, and transfer dealings have been responsible for turning our biggest profits. In 2018/2019 we recorded a 4.3 million profit, and in the previous season due to Keane and Gray moving on we made £35+ million. Spending money isn't the same as investing money. The same goes for our premier league status. We have a much better chance of staying up if Sean Dyche has better players at his disposal, that much should be obvious. We invest in the squad to generate asset value and stay in a league that gives us infinitely more revenue than the one below it.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 10:01 pmOut of interest, if we went down with what you're saying would be small debt, could we cope?

In terms of covid, yes it's not great for business. But are we the only ones affected? No, it's relative. And relatively speaking compared to other clubs who have players in our target range transfer-wise, we should be in better shape. The championship, ligue 1 clubs etc, with the solid financial footing we have I think now isn't that bad a time to invest at all.

On another day Barnes could have walked for his kick out at Manquillo...he was lucky he disguised it so well. Stupid considering he was already on a booking too.diamondpocket wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 10:17 pmThe international break has come at a good time.
