Not been mentioned I guess, given that we were so poor. He definitely would have fitted in with our team today....

He wasn’t brill that’s for sure. We’d have looked a better side with him on the right and brownhill in the middle. That’s not to say we wouldn’t have got tubbed still but the ‘structure’ and ‘framework’ would have been better.

Problem he has for New’c’astle is he’s required to produce as a wide player and that’s not his game

One saving grace from the match was that he was as **** as Stephens and fluffed his lines in front of goal twice.

Bit of an old pals act from him tonight.

His effort was there but he had two real opportunities to either score or assist with a goal.

no different than when he was with us. Played his part but hardly knew he was on the pitch 90% of the time. He'll have his odd moments like his debut for them but for the most part he'll tuck in, do the odd thing and generally do a job. Probably someone we need right now.

I'll think you'll find it is his game

Hendrick seems to have become a high quality player since March if you listen to some posters on here.
The guy was a decent player who did well for us. Nothing more.
If he’d stayed I’d have been happy, but we’ve lost much better players than Jeff Hendrick.

Did ok for us when he was a Burnley player and got the impression he didn't really want to score against us tonight

It's the opposite way round tbh, in the minds of many he's become a worse player than he actually was.

Playing high up the pitch creating? As opposed to tucked in wide midfielder with responsibility for helping out his right back and centre midfielders allowing our left side winger to play high up the pitch creating......cos that he is good at

You might not have heard his name, but you also didn’t hear Charlie Taylor‘S named either. Quietly effective as usual from Hendrick.

Viewing the Twitter trends, Newcastle fans already seem to have formed an opinion about on him and not a very positive one.

He wasn’t great but then he didn’t need to be. Doubt he’ll have an easier match all season.

I only noticed Jeff when he run past Vydra when he came on at 3-1 down, as he patted him, Vydra gave him the look to say 'yep thrown me on for another lost cause'.

Bit off topic I know but I felt really sorry for Vydra last night. All the guff Dyche talks about earning the shirt, yet Barnes waltzes straight back in as soon as he's fit.

And is mostly the reason we play hoofball just to see if he can buy a foul. Vydra should be starting before him.

Yeah, no coincidence we seemed to go more route 1 than ever last night as soon as Barnes is back.

To be fair we started going back route one as soon as Wood came back, probably aiming for over his head to run onto but it still looks awful.

We played some great stuff with Vydra and Jay Rod for the first few games after lockdown.

Not read the thread in full but only a matter of time before the board get blamed for Hendrick deciding he wanted a big payout and let his contract run down.

If there is one player who perfectly mirrors this #NUFC side in general right now, it's Jeff Hendrick.

He's hard to define, he's often underwhelming & he's just a bit "meh" atm.

@TheAthleticUK looks at why #NUFC are a side still searching for themselves

It didn't take long.

It’s not unsurprising to read a report like that. Hendrick and Newcastle never looked like a good fit.

Funny isn’t it how a few games ago this board was up in arms that we let him go.

He’s a top champ player at best

As ever, it's the polarisation that causes the issues.

Most of the board weren't up in arms, but were indicating that the squad was weaker with the departure of a fairly dependable, consistent, 7 out of 10 performer.

He's not a top championship player at best, as being a key part of a team finishing 7th and 10th in the premier league, before securing another move to a premier league club demonstrates.

Hendrick was always an interesting one. Most important player in the team some would have you believe, absolute bobbins according to others.

The truth, as usual, was somewhere in the middle. He was a decent player for us, very good injury record and generally a solid 6/7 performer.

Would rather he stayed, especially given he was one of the few versatile players we had. Has his limitations though and not really sure even after four years of watching him where his best position was.

We are definitely missing him on the right hand side, does a lot of good work usually going unnoticed and pops up with wonder goals and a few assists. That type of player is now circa £20m to replace, not sure our current chairman is up for spending anywhere near that at the moment.

We'd have benefitted from Jeff's inclusion in our current XI, he did the job required of him by Sean, and as far as we know never complained even when played out of position,, also he was capable of providing the odd goal from long range, which with our present barren run in front of goal would have been mightily welcome, Brownhill have shown glimpses of ability, but he's still learning at this level, and as for Stephens that looks like a bad deal already.

Our whole right side should have been upgraded in the summer, and the fact it wasn't makes us easy to defend against, if teams stop Charlie & Dwight they know they'll nullify most of our attacking threat, as we offer little going forwards on the right.

But then that’s our strategy, to continue to build a side that will win the Championship - which I agree with.

Arfield, Boyd, Marney Hendrix etc, occasionally we develop one to be a premier league player
