Defence v attack

Defensively very happy with that. Two quality saves from Pope too. Great to get Mee back. Clean sheet and more confidence with him there and Tarks back on his preferred side.
Going forwards though very disapointing. Brady looked our best outlet. But that aside no pace or creativity at all. And no threat in the box.
Need to change it up top vs Palace. Jay has to come in. And perhaps even Vydra.
Good point though given all that. And off bottom.

Our central midfield spent the night chasing shadows

Vydra did more as soon as he came on than Barnes/Wood did all game.

30 plus points is looking a long way off at the moment.

The attacking unit looks clueless and it’s mainly due to playing two out of form static lumps up top.
You saw as soon as Vydra came on, albeit he messed it up, I think that was the first forward pass Dwight played all night.
Said it for the past three weeks, Dyche needs to make a change up top. Why Jay Rod has been dropped for Barnes only he can know but it’s absolutely baffling to me.
Aside from that I thought Brady looked lively enough and at least tried to make something happen.

30 passes are looking a long way off if we're being brutally honest.

I would be looking to change the system if not personel.
McNeil going through the middle / off the front man perhaps?

But didn’t get a shot away and then back heeled it to nobody. After which he was as anonymous as Wood. Barnes, to be fair, at least wins FK’s if offering little attacking threat.

There was no service into the front two and when it did come it was invariably a lumped hospital pass

Please please Sean stop picking wood and Barnes it is not working. That was a championship standArd match and we still didn’t look like scoring. Stubbornness equals madness!!

To be fair with his limited opportunities, he can be forgiven for not having the most confidence in the world!
A confident striker finds a way to get a shot in there!

So poor up front .
I cant stand watching barnes he makes me frustrated.
Been seeing a few comment this wk on here saying we dont play long ball etc.
Plenty of long balls tonight. We are not even good at long ball game. We are better at getting it wide and crosses into the box. We have stopped doing that or we are doing it from deep which is so much easier to defend.
Decent point but I didnt rate them and we created nothing really which is a worry.

It was the usual crack when we aren't on it and/or the opposition is too good or has us sussed. Which is f***ing dreadful.
One dimensional rubbish.
McNeil needs dropping if Guddy is fit, and Rodders has to start.

McNeil is better than wood or Barnes but the manager has stifled him

Agreed. But also nothing to lose. And if he wants to break in to the team with limited opportunities he has to find a way to do better there.
Westwood also guilty of fluffing an opportunity at a key time in the game.

Im going to try not to be negative as we dont need that at the minute, Im grumpy enough as it is with life. I think we need a reshuffle though, there was one free kick tonight and Taylor just lumped it down the line from the half way line, it was pointless and sums up the way we are trying to play.
Thought Brighton had a bit of something about them, think they will be safe

You know what this reminds me of so far?
2014/15.
Inadequate transfer window; an opening game where we expect nothing, take the lead then lose convincingly; struggling to score goals from then on in crucial games. Just not good enough.

I think Dyche instructed the players to do anything once they got on the field tonight to avoid defeat.
They did just that so the team camp will be happy even if the fans aren't. We are the life and blood of the club but we rely on the relationship between the manager and players to get the success we desire.
I feel tonight was a good night for BFC in the context of the PL

Dyche has got a tough balancing act. Players like Wood and Barnes are so crucial to our success this season that I can see why he has persevered with them and don't disagree with his decision to start them tonight. We know how lethal Wood is when he's on a streak.
But I'd agree with the comments above that we need to shake it up against Palace. We're playing with too much fear and I think I'd go Jay and Vydra up top against Palace. Or maybe Dwight behind the striker and JBG/Brady on the flanks as we're desperately lacking a link between our deep lying midfield and attack. At the moment I think it's more important to play players whose confidence isn't rock bottom, and Wood would be a dangerous option to bring on to end his drought.

McNeil would probably improve if he had a bit of movement ahead of him, rather than the statuesque Barnes and Wood.

Said the same, it’s that extra 10% we need, other clubs have the extra 50% in their back pocket or on their bench

Says a lot when folk are suggesting he’s dropped, I understand why they are saying it as he has been poor but if he has something in front of him to link up with, he’d be a different player

Barnes doesn't even win us that many free kicks anymore. The refs and opposing centre backs have got wise to him.

Yes I've been thinking that for a while, and in that season we went the first 10 games without a win, and were playing catch up, we did improve, but not enough to avoid the drop, and in that season we struggled to score goals as well, and were often overrun in midfield, exactly what's been happening for most of this season, we're fortunate that there is a few teams equally as poor, that and the fact we can stay in games against most teams gives us a fighting chance, but sooner or later we'll need to find a solution to our goal scoring woes, otherwise I'm afraid the Championship awaits.

Don’t agree, totally. They are too static but Dwight hasn’t gone down the outside and got a cross in all seaon. He comes off his line and waits for Charlie to overlap or he dribbles infield. He needs to grt back to how he first thrilled us.

We certainly need McNeil receiving the ball in the final 3rd of the pitch, and not just inside our half where he dribbled backwards to pass backwards for fear of ceding possession
