Burnley Police
@BurnleyPolice
We are currently dealing with an incident at Marks and Spencer in Burnley where two people have received stab injuries. Their injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening. One man has been arrested and is in custody at this stage. (1/2)
(2/2) Nobody else is thought to be involved. A cordon is in place and we would ask people to avoid the area. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 0313 of December 2, 2020.

I was on Many Road around 9.20. 2 police cars absolutely flew down. They really weren't hanging about. Then saw an ambulance going the same direction shifting. Thought it must be serious. Hope those who've been injured make a full and speedy recovery.

I wouldn't call it good news because there is no good news in a situation like this, but thank God they've arrested someone.

Was it a random attack, or do they know their attacker?

Truely awful, I nearly said shocking, but it nothing I hear these days surprises me.
We are living in sad times.
Like 1989, I also know of the family, heart goes out to them , and I hope ahe makes a full and speedy recovery.

Are they known to the attacker or was it random?

Unless the attacker knew both the injured customer and the staff member it is random.

Had it confirmed that the old man suffered with mental health issues had a history of going off for days but nothing like this.

He suffered that bad he waited until the first day the shops open and targeted a shop that has plenty of elderly customers in? How many shops/people had he walked past to get to M&S

You'll have to ask him mate.

I'd argue that most people that see fit to stab someone have mental health issues.

Back in the community scheme was never a good idea. Please keep this individual locked up for good.

He has clearly targeted a store he knows most people who visit are elderly and unable to defend themselves. Cant imagine this happening in certain shops as he'd be taken down quickly
