Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to the next instalment of the Tin Food Count.

First off, I’d like to thank Hipper for stepping aside for this particular count - washed beans were never going to do it for us. I’d also like to thank Mrs Z for (unknowingly) having to reschedule the special occasion to tomorrow lunchtime with this tin of mandarin segments.

This weeks challenge is to guess the correct number of Mandarin Segments and the correct amount of Syrup.

Points will be awarded as follows

Mandarin Segments Winner = 5 Points
Syrup Liquid Winner = 3 Points

An extra bonus point is also available to anyone who guesses the exact correct amount of each.

This weeks event will run until approximately 11:30 Saturday 5 December 2020 and the winner(s) will be announced ahead of our clash at "Happy Place... Happy Place..." Turf Moor with Everton (I will be wearing my newly acquired "Happy Place" T-Shirt for the count).

Damn, I've just had the Asda version, however I must add they were quite a few broken segments, so are you counting whole segments only, all segments whether whole or halved, or putting 2 halved segments together making 1 in total?

I'm estimating that there will be 62 segments of fruit, not being a fan of syrup more of a juice man, I estimate 92ml of thick claggy gooey syrup. To reiterate : 62 segments of Mandarin. 92ml light syrup.

Rule 22 (a) points out that 'any partial unit of half the size (or more) of an average full unit shall be Counted, whilst any of less than half is Discounted'.

I remember that rule from last time round. If the can has been given a good shaking at the warehouse, all the segments could be in fractions of one-third or smaller and the official count could be 0.

I think it's brave of the organisers to select such a potentially controversial unit as mandarin oranges so early in the revival. One might have expected something more robust like carrots or peaches. Laides and/or gentlemen, I salute you.

I'm going for 40. with three quarters of a fluid ounce of juice.

They're lucky I didn't count the segments in Latin - but if I'd put XXXX they might have thought I was censoring my own estimate. Or counting beer. and XL is a clothes size.

I did wonder about quoting it in runic, but sometimes you can carry traditionalism a little too far.

dsr - I've consulted the Tinned Food Count committee and they have permitted me to convert for you - 3/4 fluid oz is 21ml according to google...

I've just realised it's a light syrup juice, this could influence the amount of juice left in the can rather than highly viscous juice that would stick more to the segs. I should have read the can label more closely.
