If Mark Chapman hadn't had turned up outside the home of John Lennon 40 years ago today.

Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too

Imagine the next stage of that karma.

"You think left side of road is right side of road, you're confused"

"You need to discipline your mind with meditation"

Response: 24 million cars on UK roads, 2000 deaths a year. Now you take your karma; tachographs for the whole of India and the rest of Asia, discipline your roads.

Such a senseless, horrific and tragic end for a man of peace who had achieved so much and promised even more.

RIP John Lennon

It didnt really matter what time of day it was it was headline news all day and no matter how many times you saw it ..it still was upsetting, only ever felt that way twice about a famous death ...Lennon...then Mercury.

Lynyrd skynyrd for me in the early hours 1977 ..listening to Luxembourgs news flash was quite a shock tbh.Elvis to same year I think.Agree fully with Lennon.

Me too Steve as I also cried when hearing the news. And I was still emotional for a few days afterwards

I also cried my heart out when Otis Redding died in a plane crash on 10th December 1967

I don't want to be pedantic, but it was in the early hours of the 9th December (UK time) that Lennon was shot. So, today is the true anniversary. It was still the 8th December in New York. The morning papers had already been printed and it was the 10th December when the newspaper covers told the sad story but the evening papers, especially The Liverpool Echo had already covered it well.

I heard the breaking news on Liverpool's Radio City (think around 3.30am). At first it was a rumour he had been shot. Ten minutes later that was confirmed. Another 10 minutes, rumours he was dead. And then confirmation that Lennon was dead.

Scousers started phoning in to the radio station. "I went to school with John" etc. All I can say is he must have been the the biggest school in the world!

Liverpool was strangely quiet that day. It felt silent....people shocked, subdued and even slightly lost.

I went to the Art College bar which was quiet. (Sorry for the name-dropping...) I sat with Holly Johnson, Pete Burns, Colin Vearncombe and my Art college friends. It wasn't our usual jolly chat, just a bit of reminiscing, mostly coming from Holly.
