I don’t see why negotiations and the paperwork can’t be done via calls and online, however, players medicals are vital.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 5:05 pmInteresting point, players and agents having to travel, potentially from abroad and then run through a full medical. Assuming that’s possible, will the staff be working to process paperwork and registrations?
Let’s see.

CBA To read all the Rumours so it might be on here already but I've heard that we are in for Millwall winger Wallace for 10 million, very good player if true and a Dyche type player
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
You can still travel for work and elite sport so can't see it being an issue.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 4:37 pmLooks like the UK is going into immediate lockdown (announcement at 8pm) and I’m wondering if this could affect all Clubs from making new signings and the transfer window?
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Not a rumour or link but whatever happened to Alfie Mawson? By all accounts we were very close to signing him when he chose Fulham at the last minute but barely seemed to feature there.

The suggestions of Jed Wallace make sense , I think he’d fit in nicely on the right hand side . Are there serious rumours that Vydra is leaving this window....? If so who would we replace him with?

Joined Bristol City on loan, then injured his knee and needed surgery. Looks like it'll be Feb before he's back available for them.

Phil Jones is a tough on as it depends what sort of player he is now. I get the feeling that if we do sign him, there will be a lot of upset Clarets, who then change their mind after he's played a few games.

James McCarthy: 30 year old. Why would we want him when we've signed Stephens? Similar type of player IMHO.

Going to be interesting this month
Dyche clearly likes the older, experienced, mainly British players. Problem being that there will be little or no sell on value so all monies are pretty well written off.
The new owner would appear to be more interested in developing younger, worldwide talent based on recent soundbites
Whose side will the likes of Rigg and Garlick take as their advice will obviously be sought by the new owners

It could be a good mix. SD may prefer the older players as they're cheaper, and he didn't have a budget. Younger players are riskier.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 2:08 pmGoing to be interesting this month

Providing the new owners are happy with that
There's another thread bemoaning the average age of the Palace squad
Aren't we the second oldest squad in the Prem ?

First of all where have I mentioned what that lot down the road think ???TomtheClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 2:04 pmSo you would not sign him on what that lot down the road think?
No I don't give a shite what ******* fans think of him, my own opinion is the lack of games over the last 5 and a half seasons, he's played on average around 12/13 games a season and more recently the last season and a half he's played 2 games, no thanks not for me
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Surely McCarthy is an old rumour regurgitated? Cannot see us in for (another) defensive midfielder the wrong side of 30.

Whoever we sign, I’m sure it will go down better than PNE’s latest loan signing has.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Way I always think about players is:
18-23 - Development players, usually raw, inconsistent
23-28 - Rising stars, improving consistency, established player with growing reputation
28-33 - Prime, highly consistent, mentally resilient, leaders
I think Dyche tends to prefer Prime players, easy to work with, know what you're getting. But inevitably owners would prefer Development players because they are cheap (wages) and high potential return on investment. For our progression, and given the age of our squad, I'd like to see more rising stars this window and possibly next. Ones that can come in to the team immediately and ultimately help replace the current prime players in a few years.
The talk of that Olise chap, some of the other links to 19 yo's are great, quite exciting, but realistically, are they going to come in and go in to our team straight away? Probably not, and given what's at stake, I'm not sure I'd want them to. I'd hope we could get one or two in of that ilk, even possibly on loan, and then focus on buying some of the most exciting British development players thereafter.

I’m going to throw another name into the hat. This is the type of player Brentford would sign and sell on for 20-30 mil a season later.
Siriki Dembélé At Peterborough. He’s really flourishing the season in league one and could see a championship club picking him for next to nothing.

There is a difference. Brentford would buy him and play him whereas if we bought him he wouldn't get the chance.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 10:26 amI’m going to throw another name into the hat. This is the type of player Brentford would sign and sell on for 20-30 mil a season later.

I think this is where we will change as a club If we want good young players we get them. If there not quite ready we loan to championship clubs.
This kid has talent and he will end up doing well in championship or Scottish league with rangers.

Duncan Watmore has signed an extension with Boro until summer 2023. Good for him - showing some faith with a club who gave him a chance after his injuries.
Hopefully our targets shifted slightly from Watmore after the takeover went through.

Seen him probably three times this season. Not a lot I know but he was great each time I saw him. Pace, dribbling ability and the area he has improved on his final ball.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 11:07 amHow many times have you seen him play? You're right that there are certainly some rough diamonds out there in League One and Two. Hopefully, with a little but more finance now, we might be able to take a gamble or two moving forward.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 11:10 amSeen him probably three times this season. A fully fit Phil Jones is a very good defender and would be a great replacement for James Tarkowski.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 1:52 pmPhil Jones is a tough on as it depends what sort of player he is now. Remaining fit would be the issue though.

And when was the last time anyone saw Jones have an extended run in the Man Utd side
Your second line answers the first
We don't need another JBG or Brady and at this stage of the season we couldn't take the risk
I don't think the new owners will go over the head of SD and sell Tarks this season

I think SD will accept we have to sell if he doesn't renew in the summer - that's assuming JT doesn't want to run his contract down and leave for nothing.

I distinctly remember a thread a few years ago where Stoke fans were copping a load of abuse for having ideas above their station. Some of the Phil Jones comments remind me of that. As if we are above him!! Clearly a good player if we could get him back to anything like his best. I think I'd be happy to let Dyche decide if he fits the bill.

At one point, I thought Phil Jones was going to be the best centre half for England. I seem to remember Fergie saying as much as well when he signed him. Clearly hasn’t reached that potential, but I’d have him here in a heartbeat.

The reason he hasn’t reached his potential has been constant injuries though. I think most agree that a fit, Phil Jones would be a great addition - history just suggests that’s highly unlikely.LAM wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:19 pmAt one point, I thought Phil Jones was going to be the best centre half for England.
