Ironically last nights win makes any new signings less likely. We’re still ‘fragile’ on the right side of midfield but Dyche might be prepared to (risk it) and wait until summer.

On the other hand if a quality player becomes available in one of our weaker squads positions then we might just see some transfer action...
Interestingly 43% percent of our attacking play came down the right hand side last night. Only the second time this season where the majority of our attacking play came down that side of the pitch

It was a great win, but we're still only 1 point ahead of games played. 1 point per game is 38 points which will surely keep us up. So while it was a nice bonus to collect 3 points that seemed unlikely, we still need 1-2 players to come in as we're still in a fight.

Otherwise, we're relying on important players not getting injured - and I have no confidence in that whatsoever.

King for Vydra makes sense - the clubs would be simply exchanging their no. 27s

Maybe £5m on top ?

King's stats are impressive - pretty much a 3 goals per start forward (for club and country) who can play anywhere across the front line.

His versatility and pace make him a little more useful than Vydra - but there's a question mark on whether he would play on the right wing of a 4-4-2 - I don't suppose he's done that very often.

I very rarely post but I find it ridiculous that anybody would question Brownhills performance last night.
In my opinion, he will be here in five years time and he will be our club captain, much in the mould of Ben Mee.

“Class act”....no sorry pal he really isn’t, a bit of pace doesn’t make him fall in to that bracket.

Playing 442 is ok and there is a future in playing it with the 'framework' etc.

I watched Leicester effectively play a 442 the other day but they had Maddison as one of their forwards. We do also need some pace but this is the type of player we need in my opinion. Someone who can link play and drop deeper if required and get involved with helping in ball retention and creativity. Playing with two out and out forwards is very difficult at this level and this also applies lots of pressure for the midfield two be very defensive.

Be quite a find to get someone like Maddison, the reason they are so valuable is because there are very few who can do that regularly. Proper box to box midfielders cost as much as top strikers.

King for Vydra-great business if we can do it.The forwards is the area SD changes frequently. This gives us 4 good strikers and gives Wood competition who seems well out of sorts. Being on the bench has done Dwight the world of good lately-coming back as his old self. We just dont get value for money with Vydra-he comes on as a last resort, and has squandered numerous PL chances since May in the PL . What is it -no goals in 12 months ??

Imagine starting Barnes & King with Jay and Wood available in the second half. It gives us, as SD calls it "the ability to capitalise during a special moment", just like Barnesy did last night. Thats how BFC can accumulate points and gradually move up the league

There are plenty of No 10/attacking midfielders around. I would suggest it's more of a rarity in European football to find teams playing 442 with two out and out strikers.

It’s all very well picking one stat and making him out to be a good player. Surprised you didn’t mention that he has also been dispossessed more times than any of our midfield and has the worst offensive stats of our midfield. Liverpool’s GK had better offensive stats than Brownhill last night. Not knocking the lad because I thought his defensive work was excellent.

He’s a good player but a long way off the quality of CMs we have had over the last few seasons.
What offensive stats are you actually talking about ?

What offensive stats did the Liverpool GK have that were better than Brownhill ?

The future??? He's 30. We have plenty of midfielders around that age.

I'm a bit surprised (and a little bit disappointed) that we haven't been linked to an actual right winger this window and it's now the 22nd January. I thought that was the main position we needed to look at strengthening.

Still time, I guess.....
Totally agree. Good to see Dwight back to his best after his mini-break, but imagine having a right winger of the same standard?!?

Interestingly we have 18 points from the last 12 or 1.5/game. Keep that up and we end with 49 points
Our problem apart from not scoring goals was the first 6 games and one point

Maddison is a direct product of Leicesters wonderful scouting system-both UK and abroad.Other examples of finding players in the UK-Vardy and Justin. From abroad and in the team at present-Forfana, Castagna, Perrira, Soucek,Tilemans, are all top drawer

Wonderful scouting system? Maddison cost over £22m, Perrira £20m, Forfana over £30m, Castagna £22m, Tielemens £40m.......Soucek plays for West Ham. Not doubting they've signed some very talented players but it can't be that hard to scout the ones that cost this much money.

For balance they have also signed the likes of Slimani, Musa, Kaputska, Adrien Silva, Inler and Kramaric who arrived for much bigger fees than they left for.

Ricardo is Pereira....same player. Just comes down to whether you want to call him by his surname or christian name. Either way - £20m.

The point is we can all reel off names at every club where players were bought cheap and then sold on. It doesn't make the scouting system wonderful. And it's much easier when you've got the money to spend decent money on players to start with!

What about Burnley's wonderful scouting system? Ings, Keane, Heaton, Gray ;)

And what are Maddison, Forfana, worth now. You could double the fee for Maddison and add another £15m on the price of Forfana (they only signed him a few months ago). And of course you have not mentioned Mahrez who cost them £500, 000. What did Man City pay for him-wasn't it £60m. Thats not a bad bit of scouting or business. Kante was bought at £5.6m and after helping then win the PL sold for £32m.There is no need to feel bitter for Leicester-instead we should be researching how they achieve it

I'd say 20 million for Maddison is a steal in today's market. What have they brought in by selling Maguire, Kante and Chilwell? The lad Justin was signed for peanuts from Luton as well and he's a regular now.

Vardy was scouted by Burnley but we balked at the £1m fee for a non league player.
Unfortunately, this is a problem. Also Leicester will pay top money for players £22m for Maddison being a case in point

Regarding King (or any other player out of contract at the end of the season), it doesn't matter what Bournemouth want (£10M/£20M etc) or what any bidding team will pay. He holds all the cards. He can hold out for the team that he wants (or values him salary wise, with his view of his own worth). Bournemouth would have to weigh up the pros and cons of a low(er) transfer fee or playing him for the remainder of the season. Or if he wants, he can wait for the end of the season and negotiate a signing on fee. Bournemouth end up with nothing and his new club doesn't have to pay a transfer fee (but maybe a big signing on fee).

Not disputing they have recruited well, but you missed off any bad signing from your list as well as who pays the bills.

Nothing to be bitter about, I never find myself looking at other clubs thinking wish we were them. One question for you though, how many bad 20m plus signings do you think we could afford ?

But now we CAN compete with these prices. We just need to borrow a few more quid at 10% interest. I’m sure we’ll (BFC and ALK Capital) have investors lining up after last nights brilliant performance.

Granted were not in the same "league" as Leicester. They have wealthy owners and can afford a few bad purchases, and overall they have been one of the most successful in the PL, and potentially a challenger to win the PL this year. But name me a team in the "top 6" that hasn't made a bad purchase over £20m.It seems with us we have gone backwards. We signed Gray & Barton one year which was so shrewd and helped us win the Championship. We have more recently bought Gibson & Vydra for a total of around £25m and what have we got to show for it

We possibly can, for one maybe two, but just imagine the meltdown if Burnley paid £20 for a ‘good prospect’ which is what Leicester have frequently done. Some of our fans would have foaming mouth level breakdowns.

It may have something to do with the fact he’s an excellent player, who would now cost you double that to sign him.

Had we signed him for £22m I would imagine there would be plenty of forum users claiming this was the buy of the century.

The point is leicester are arguably the best in the league when it comes to transfers. You could obviously include many others too who they have developed and sold for a big fee including Chilwell most recently. And haha yes I'm aware of Ricardo however I didn't read your post properly so I missed that bit 😁

We have more recently bought Gibson & Vydra for a total of around £25m and what have we got to show for it
Not much really, just a few seasons in the PL including a top half finish.

Vyds put us on the path to a potential FA cup run which if we go all the way and win the cup will more than repay his fee.
Gibson I will concede ,was a bad buy

Ricardo is Pereira....same player. Just comes down to whether you want to call him by his surname or christian name. Either way - £20m.

The point is we can all reel off names at every club where players were bought cheap and then sold on. It doesn't make the scouting system wonderful. And it's much easier when you've got the money to spend decent money on players to start with!

What about Burnley's wonderful scouting system? Ings, Keane, Heaton, Gray ;)
Yes wonderful scouting but these four were signed in 2011, 2014, 2013, 2015 respectively. You can add a few more to this list ie Tarkowski, Westwood, who have been great value. But what have we done in the 6 years since the most recent of the four signings you name, in what is the toughest league in the world. The four signings were made before the advent of our high tech Recruitment & Analytics team The end product from this team has been Hart, Stephens and Brownhill (though I think he is proving a great addition). Me thinks we have gone backwards in recruitment despite the tools we have

There’s no doubt that Leicester have recruited well. And there’s also no doubt that our recruitment could have been better in the last 2-3 years. However, my point was that it is much easier to recruit well when you can throw some decent money at it and we just haven’t been in that place for the last 2-3 years.

I merely suggested earlier that a 442 with a Maddison type player up front would work well. I didn’t think it would end up as an stick to beat our recruitment team with! I should’ve known better......

King is shite why swop him for Vyds who is a class act despite what Sean thinks of him
Disagree, I’d imagine most clubs in the premier league would also

I think we should remember that Leicester spent a lot of money in getting promoted to the prem & have spent significantly staying there, it will take time & planning to put us in a position to turn us into a top 10 club.

Yes, how can Maddison costing over £22 million be considered a great find?
Well, if we break it down, Leicester identified him, put up the money to buy him and could probably get a minimum of 3 times what they paid for him if they chose to sell him.

I’d suggest that all adds up to him being a great find.

No. A great find is getting a fairly unknown player, not one that was a highly regarded championship player.

It may have something to do with the fact he’s an excellent player, who would now cost you double that to sign him.

Had we signed him for £22m I would imagine there would be plenty of forum users claiming this was the buy of the century.
Had we signed him, Sean wouldn't have played him.

I think you're being a bit pedantic tbh. Great find, great business who cares the point is they will still make big money on him
