No. A great find is getting a fairly unknown player, not one that was a highly regarded championship player.
For us no better example than Danny Ings, who we paid £1m for. I hear he is now stalling his new contract talks. If he was to move now I guess he could easily be in the £40m mark. Other great finds were Kieran Trippier , Ben Mee and Charlie Austin. I suspect as we had no official RECRUITMENT TEAM then that Eddie Howe has to take the credit for all four

It's probably already been mentioned but free agent Ahmed Musa (Nigerian Captain) has been linked with Burnley. Currently a free agent he has been offered a contract with CSKA Moscow but says he wants to move to the PL. West Brom and Burnley both interested, with W Brom pulling out of a deal at the last minute in the summer.

If it's between us and BFS, I know where I'd go.

The king fee is utter garbage, no way is anybody paying 10mill or above for a 29 year old who they could sign for free in 5 months. Likely to be 5/6million if anybody signs him.

Interest in taking Matej Vydra on loan from Burnley is there, but lots to fall into place for it to happen. My @TheAthleticUK colleague @adjones_journo includes latest on striker’s situation in this latest mailbag piece.

Why would we even consider letting him go out on loan. Surely if we bring in a replacement striker then we would sell him to recoup some money. Vydra will never make it at Burnley, don't know what the problem is but he just doen't to fit in with SD and his plans.

King to West Ham seems a much likely move than King to Burnley. King to Burnley to me just doesn't sound like a move that would ever happen.

Agree. Vydra is an option on the bench. If we loan him out and don't sign a striker, then we're shooting ourselves in the foot. Wouldn't make any sense whatsoever.

He doesn't play Vydra if he can help it and clearly doesn't fancy him, so we may as well get rid.

He does play Vydra though. He doesn't give him many minutes, but he's still an option from the bench. It would be daft to only have 3 recognised forwards.

It would still mean we need another forward. Jay, Wood or Barnes get injured and we don't have a proven forward on the bench. It would be madness, but thankfully, I'm sure we wouldn't end up in that situation. I doubt we'll sell him unless somebody else is coming in.

He would only get rid of vydra if we got somebody else in . If it was guaranteed money for vydra after the loan it would suit both parties

Doubt the figure is true, however WHU are the ones likely to pay stupid money for King. Realistically you need to take the 1 in front of the fee being mentioned. If true it does not say much for Benrama who came for big money not that long ago. There will be a lot of sitting on the bench as its impossible to start with him, Antonio and King. Also depends how much someone wants to start games-personally I think if King joined us he would command a regular start, or regular game time

Would be an absolute shambles if we signed Deeney or Andre to replace Vydra. Makes no sense at all. Deeney way past it and too similar to the other 3 strikers. Andre has no form whatsoever and his attitude toward breaking covid protocol won’t sit nicely with Dyche I’d imagine.

Really all depends on what SD thinks. I doubt any of us wanted Crouch but SD has a soft spot for him and valued having him around. With Deeney there is a mutual respect- so I hate to say it, but it could happen, I sense Gray has blotted his copy book, in more ways than one, however SD might be thinking he could be an impact sub, and he does have goals in him. Next week could be interesting

If Deeney came in would leave us with 3 strikers all the wrong side of 30 plus Wood at 29. You'd like to think we're looking at bringing the age of our squad down a bit instead.

I honestly wouldn't be against a possible return for Gray. We are seriously lacking some explosive pace up top. I doubt he'd be interested in making the move back up north to be honest though.

Gray wasn’t good enough for the Premier League before so I’m not sure what has changed since. Deeney is clearly well liked by Dyche but hopefully we are looking for younger, different options to the likes of him.

The Vydra story is a bit of a nothing story which is explained in the article. It’s highly unlikely he leaves and the only way he does is if we have a replacement.

I'm thinking the same, as an impact sub of course. But like you say, I very much anticipate he wouldn't want to leave his London party lifestyle, and I've thought that and money was always his priority over football. But at the same time, I feel we need someone who can go straight into the starting 11.

Agreed. I’d prefer we signed a younger player who is unproven at PL level than someone who has proven to be not good enough.

Not that I'm advocating the Gray transfer, albeit I wouldnt be against it, but I would say Dyche got the best out of him and arguably he was very much a capable PL striker when he was here with a one goal in three record. Pretty similar to Wood, in that respect, slightly better than Jay and certainly better than Barnes.

In the meantime, Gray has had to work with five different managers and their respective sets of preferred tactics.

If we're suggesting that suddenly he's not good enough for the PL, whilst Ash and Jay are, then it reeks of sour grapes.

As it is, I think its irrelevant anyway as his Mrs is shortly to be the bread winner there and wont entertain the thought of moving up Norf.

Gray got 9 goals for us in his one season in the Premier League.

Vydra has got 6 goals in the Premier League in 66 games across three different clubs, none of which have seen fit to play him regularly.

Crucially, Dyche believes in him and would actually play him. Whatever people see in Vydra (and he has had some good games, no doubt) Dyche doesn't see it, that's pretty much obvious at this point. On that basis what's the point of keeping him? Dyche will see Gray as a genuinely viable alternative and would be willing to introduce him earlier from the bench/start him on occasion I think. If he still has his pace I would have no issue with that trade.

No sour grapes from me. I just don’t think he’s good enough for the PL. And if we are looking to replace Vydra it should be with someone who is better, or has the potential to be so. And I think we very much need to start looking ahead and signing players who we can improve and who’s increase in value we can take advantage of. Gray is 30 this year.

Resigning Gray would be a backwards step. I don’t have a name but I do wonder if we’d be better with someone more versatile - effective on the right or up front.

The wages he will be on, on top of any fee (even as part of a swap for Vydra) wouldn’t make it worth while for what he’d bring to the club.

People think Andre is good enough yet players like Lingard are deemed not. Strange. He got 9 goals for us including 3 against one of the worst sides I've seen in this division and his control and all round game was possibly worse than Wood. He certainly didn't set any trees alight for us in the prem and his subsequent time at Watford would suggest he's not good enough. Used in the right system he might nick one or two but we need better or better potential.

This.

Have come to the conclusion that I either want us to sign quality players that will genuinely move us forward, young players with potential, or just stick with what we’ve got and bring our lads through.

The Grays, Deeney’s of the world dont fit in either camp and don’t move us forward in any way whatsoever.

I don't want Andre Gray anywhere near the Turf again unless he's lining up for an opposition side, and I can categorically assure people it's nothing to do with any sort of grapes, sour or otherwise. I was delighted to see the back of him, and was totally gobsmacked when we received such a large fee for him from Watford (was it around £18m?). :D

Never, ever good enough for the PL. Not in a million years. Technically he was in the toilet. Personally, I also found him to be an extremely distasteful character.

Gray and his lifestyle are firmly rooted down country, anyway his girlfriend wouldn't allow it. I also think King with his young family will be settled down south, importantly if other clubs are interested in him that's us out of the equation.

I’d be happy with a Vydra Gray swap deal. He clearly doesn’t fancy Vydra and even though Vydra is a better footballer than Gray Gray would give us some pace and a different option off the bench.

Hmm! depends on Gray's attitude, just maybe he's got a point to prove after sitting on Watford's bench so much, and he would offer us that much needed pace, don't know what sort of wages Andre's on, but if we could get a swap deal in place it might suit all parties, Vydra isn't going to play regularly under Sean, and Andre would be a better option in my view, purely due to his pace.
