SD has said we were after him until the numbers went silly with what villa paid.

It looked like silly money at the time, but 6 goals in 10 league appearances is a pretty spectacular return thus far.

Didn't he say we'd looked at him the previous year before his big season with Brentford?

I think Pukki had 7 goals after 8 games last season.

Was 2019. We got Jay instead for half the price
BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche has revealed he was priced out of a move for Ollie Watkins.
The Clarets tracked the forward, who they will come up against at Aston Villa on Thursday night, while he was starring for Brentford in the Championship.
But carrying a £20million pricetag at the time, in November 2018 - even before his best season for the Bees - put him beyond Burnley's budget.
Dyche instead spent half that amount on securing Jay Rodriguez from West Brom for a second spell at his boyhood club, while Watkins, who scored 26 goals last season, went on to be reunited with his former Brentford boss Dean Smith at Villa Park for an initial £28m fee in the summer.

We spent £750k in the summer...are we really to be believe we were genuinely interested in a player who went for £28 million ? It was obvious last season that Watkins' fee would be £20m plus.

Slightly north at 33mill with potential add ons, way way above our budget probably more than double.

Less goals in more games than Watkins is not scoring for fun in most people's opinion.

All strikers will hit a run of form at some point if they play enough games. Anyone ever linked with Wood will have been looked at his scoring record last year and bemoaned missing out.
If it takes 2-3 years to start scoring it’s hard to say we missed out. Likewise if they score six and then not again for the rest of the season.
The only ones you miss out on are the ones that consistently play well. Bowen stands out to me as one from recent years, although not sure we were ever linked.

It isn’t but he’s not doing so bad bearing in mind Watkins potentially cost more than double the £15m Southampton paid for adams, even without the add ons it’s a straight £13m on top, I’ll leave you to work out who represents value for money between them.

42 appearances in total for Saints, its took him a lot longer to find his feet, but he does look a good prospect for them.
As for value for money, I'll wait until the end of the season and see then.
