From the BBC: Dwight McNeil will be playing in his 71st consecutive Premier League match for Burnley, surpassing Ben Mee's record for the club.

It's no wonder he looks a bit knackered at times. I wonder how many other, if any, players of his age have done that. I can't imagine there will be many.

The last one he didn't start was at Everton in the next to last match of 2018/19 but he'd played in the previous 17 and then all 38 last season and all 13 now this season. I got that to 70 but I've just checked and he came on as a sub in that Boxing Day debacle against Everton so that makes it 71 with all but two of them (both against Everton) starts.

I think that's remarkable for a player of his age.

Blimey! didn't realise he'd been an ever present for that length of time, any player would have dips in form over nearly 2 seasons worth of games, I guess his poor games are highlighted more at Burnley as we've became so reliant on him to sparkle, hopefully he'll return to his best form soon, tonight would be a good time to start, he's got good memories facing the Wolves, his cracking goal a couple of seasons back pretty much secured survival, a repeat tonight would be a welcome early Xmas present.

A record to be proud of, is made of hard stuff and has taken his 2nd chance well after being let go by Man Utd.

And this is his 52 consecutive start which is even more incredible.

You also have to take into consideration the fact that he has been playing in the England Under 20s as well and has not had much of a break at all in the last two years.

Great experience for him and that will only make him better.

I've not checked it, but I was rather surprised to read this item on the BBC sport page::

Hopefully not, but if he's carrying a knock it's best not to risk him, even though these games are important the last thing we need is Dwight aggravating anything and being out longer.

The bigger is who replaces him on the left if he's out.

But this once again highlights how thin our squad is, and why we need to recruit in January. I guess if push comes to shove Sean will deploy Pieters on the left, by no means ideal, but I don't see many other options.

How many have JBG & Brady played during the same period; I'm certain that they'll not have played 71 between the two of them, but am wondering if they've even managed to play half that many?

Is McNeil actually a doubt? I've read on Facebook it was more precautions

Wonder if it's good for him in the long run though. Many young prodigies burn out relatively early if too much is asked of them early on.

I don't think too much is being asked of him. Sure, he puts in a shift as they all do but it's not a case of DM being asked to run himself into the ground every game.
The framework prevents any one player being exposed or overused.

Only highlights how thin the squad is but he has been needed even if he has under performed for white a few of them.

Still not hit last seasons highs yet so hopefully more to come from him.

The thing is, though, that we have a full squad of 25, I believe we could add one as Dwight is only 20. That's all.

Didn't need to register Gibson because he'd gone out on loan and the list only runs until 31st December so he couldn't possibly play for us until then. We then produce another list after the window closes.

It does, any player currently not named in a squad can play from January.

I did laugh last week when our click bait local site suggested Arsenal might bring Ozil back for our game at the Emirates.
