Hope Ted gets well soon. Ted works as caretaker at a school in Derby and purchased janitorial goods from the company I worked at. We had some long and amusing conversations about his time at Burnley. His Jimmy Mullen stories were most interesting.

You're right it was Wayne Dowell - moments after that incident Gerry Harrison went in for a sliding challenge and aquaplaned across the surface - referee abandoned the game straight afterwards - don't think I've ever seen one of our matches played in such torrential rain - won the replayed game 4-3, all to no avail unfortunately

McMinn had the ball wide on the left (in front of the longside). He deliberately cut infield towards the largest puddle on the pitch and theatrically 'tripped' as the ball came to an abrupt halt in the water, ending with him flat on his face in said puddle with arms and legs akimbo.

Just to add. McMinn was a fine player. An entertainer.

The type of footballer that I like to watch. Sadly not so many of his type left.

Ted was definitely one of our entertainers in the 90's, and a dashed fine player to boot, his abiding memory will always be Wembley 94, he and David Eyres led the Stockport thugs a merry dance that day.

Hope he is back to full health soon.

Stockports complete lack of discipline was a sliding doors moment for them that day , I wonder what the score would have been if they hadn’t been so hot headed, tinman played them like a fiddle , hehe

I'm not sure why, as I'm certain I had an ST that season, but I ended up on the Bee Hole End that game as The Longside was full. I don't think I've ever been so wet in my life. I was grateful when it was abandoned.

I’d retired to the Bob Lord by then but we’d got torrential rain on a frozen pitch. Referee was Billy Burns from Scarborough and our goal was scored by the very player referenced in the title of this thread.

Very lucky to have him, Eyres and Inchy in the same team at league one level.

I remember him playing for derby against us in the cup at Turf Moor and standing out massively too.

Definitely my favourite player of that time

Went to a northern soul night one Friday night at the Keirby Hotel. Was really surprised to see Ted and Marlon there knocking back bottle after bottle of Budweiser.
We got talking and they said they were staying at the hotel and on the beer as the cup game at the Turf was bound to be off due to heavy snow.
Saturday morning saw hundreds of fans clearing the pitch and terraciing, and the game was on.
We were in the cricket field stand and I shouted at Ted during the warm up and asked him how he felt. His answer was "rough as ten!
He actually played well. Top character.

That performance for Derby in the cup in the first match at the Turf. If anyone has the club's VHS review of that season they interview Steve Davis after the game and ask him about McMinn's performance against Ian Measham. All Davis would say about him was that he was a cheat.

As a few have said, a legend that seems to get forgotten.

From my view in the CF I loved watching him. Sitting down on the St John’s ambulance seats under the old police room whilst getting ready to take a corner.

Favorite had to be him going down for a penalty. It was awarded and all hell broke lose, players kicking off everywhere, medical staff on the pitch and he looked at the CF stand, winked and mouthed that he was ok.

No - was McMinn for us

Definitely one of my favourite Burnley players. He could hardly run, but you could tell he had class that the players around him didn't. I miss players like him, real characters with a way of playing that's not wholly "athletic". To a lesser extent, file Little and Blake in that group. Just really clever with the ball and made space with a faint or misdirection.

I remember us playing Swansea ( I think ) in the mid 1990's and much was made of a Welsh U21 Full Back they had, who'd recently broken in to their first team ..... Ted McMinn just toyed with him throughout the first half, made him look like a Sunday League player, he got booked, and was substituted at half-time to save him being sent off ...

Everytime he fell over my Mum would laugh. He was hugely talented but knew how to wind up a defender.

Former teammate Derek Ferguson recalled, "I'll never forget playing with Ted in a reserve game at Ibrox. He was running down the wing full speed and crossed the ball into the box. He just kept running so he had to jump over a wall into the Copland Road stand, carried on up the stairs then disappeared down the other side.”

His speciality corners were brilliant. Always raised a smile. Get well soon Ted.
