Hearing that a player we were very close to signing quite a while ago has died aged 35.

Think MND & ALS are very similar

Either way, both awful! God bless him & his family

I remember his game at Stanley
At those times we had a few players who we didn't sign after trials
RIP Luton

Known as ALS in America but MND here. Same as my mate Alan Beecroft died with last year and what Lenny Johnrose has.

Isn’t ALS a form of MND as opposed to being different names for the same thing?

Awful to hear this news, even more so with him leaving behind such a young family.

It’s testament to the likes of Johnrose, Burrows, Darby, Weir and their families that MND is becoming so much more prominent. Hopefully their hard work in raising awareness and money for research will soon pay dividends.

ALS or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is one of the ways motor neurone disease presents affecting both the muscle nerves that start in the brain as well as those that start in the spine so called upper and lower motor (muscle) neurones. A second form where just or mainly the lower motor nerves are affected is called progressive muscular atrophy (PMA) and both are under the umbrella term of MND
A bit of evidence suggesting that athletes who are more prone to get head and neck trauma are eight times more likely to get MND.

Absolutely awful that news. I remember us looking at signing him permanently but becoming stuck in all the paperwork due to the Government rules. I know Cotts really wanted him. So very sad and with such a young family. It's an absolutely awful disease.

Sad news, really worrying the connection with athletes but of course it can randomly hit anyone.

The writer Joe Hammond wrote an incredible autobiography while he had it. Of course, ultimately a tragic story but very moving and fascinating too. Definitely worth a read but maybe in more cheerful times.

Didn’t you get involved with that beddie, trying to sort it out? Believe the club secretary ballsed it up.
