For anyone interested. Bobby Thomas is starting for Barrow today. Let’s hope he has a blinder on his first league appearance.

Disappointed to see that he is getting pelters from a few Barrow fans.
Must have had a rude awakening to professional football.
Let’s hope this won’t have a negative affect on his development.

I would have thought people from Barrow would be grateful that anybody wants to go there, it really is a dismal place.

Mace Goodridge just on for Barrow as well.

Wishing him the very best of luck. I thought he looked very good against Millwall.

All part of development I'm afraid. Some fans can be cruel but a test of his mentality

I can think of no greater practise to be a young Burnley player than getting hammered by fans after a handful of first team appearances. Will definitely stand him in good stead.

I guess the fans see a lad from a PL club and can be hyper-critical.
Are these sort of loans any good to a 19 year old?

It's similar to the lad Braithwaite who Blackburn have took on loan from Everton.
He looked really good for Everton and I wouldn't have minded him here on loan as cover, but has looked poor at Blackburn so far.

It's far better for them than learning academy football in my eyes.

I think any player, regardless of the club, if by 19/20 you're not playing in the first team then you need to go out on loan or leave the club permanently and drop down to a level where you will be playing.

I am not saying it happens every time but how many examples do we have of 17, 18, 19 year old lads being released from clubs and then coming back to Championship/Premier League standard by their mid twenties.

Probably right, maybe 20 at the latest.

Thinking back to when we were in the lower leagues, there was perhaps a higher level of expectation on young loan players from top division clubs, than perhaps there should have been.

He’s gone to a small club that’s not been in the league for fifty years. I’d bet that a lot of their fans, especially younger ones, were expecting more than they should have.

Add that to the fact that they’re in a scrap to stay in the football league, their fans are likely to be pretty unforgiving.

It could make some players, it could break others. I’d assume that they think he’s a strong character at our end and able to manage what could be a difficult loan period.

If he had been on loan at a mid table club with little chance of promotion or relegation, he might be afforded more patience, but would it have benefited him as much or would he have got the game time?

I also agree that Barrow is a **** hole!! :)

Yep, no doubt the lad had ability and is a good athlete, this is a test of his Character, mental strength and potential progression to learn.

I watched a bit of Barrow v Crawley today and he is playing on the left of a back three.

He didnt look out of place and he must be enjoying his football at the moment.

He already looks a useful footballer who if he doesnt make premier league standard he will have a league career.

It only seems like yesterday that we were always looking for cheap loans and now we have young players playing on loan at other league clubs.

The change in standard of young players can only benefit the club.

He set up a goal at Cheltenham in midweek with a long throw, something I didn’t think he could do, and apparently played well today.

He’s improved enormously in the last two years.

Its a very long throw.

On the walsall game the home commentary team made much of this insisting that Sean would love him because of it!

I’d never seen him throw the ball. Jordan Cropper is the one that can really throw it a long way.

He was brought down for the penalty for Barrow's second goal today. Barrow have now won four games on the trot, although Bobby has only started one of them and come on as a sub in two others. Good luck to him.

For anyone interested it would appear Thomas has really turned around the fans opinion of him since the new manager has came in.

Below is just a few of the comments on social media:

“Bobby Thomas man of the match, what a turnaround from his first 6 games. This kid will go all the way”

“Bobby Thomas quality player with a big future”

“We must do everything we can to sign Thomas”

Let’s hope he keeps progressing and gets as much game time as possible.

Well, he's been out of the side for several weeks now (on the bench), so not sure how well he is doing.
Other loans out: Phillips, seems to have lost his place in Accrington's starting 11
jensen, hasn't caught a ball in anger at Bolton
Goodridge, as fas as I know hasn't started for Barrow in a single game.

Bobby Thomas has started all of their last 5 games.10 appearances since the start of March. He's very much part of that team and their recent success.

Phillips at Accy is the strange one for me, he impressed during his stint at Morecambe, and although Stanley are a level above, you'd have thought he'd at least have made a few cameo appearances off the bench.

Half time sub against Blackpool tonight, late cameo in the previous 3 where he's created a few chances that others haven't taken. He's not on set pieces so he's having less of an influence. 8 starts and 8 sub appearances since January 30th. 1 start and 8 sub appearances since the start of March.
Some of them playing 45 minutes or more.
Let's not forget that it's 5 subs in the EFL so teams are making a lot more changes than before. Fewer players are getting 90 minutes.
It will have been a real learning experience for him contrasting the two halves of the season at two different levels. I think he could make just as big an impact in League One if he was given the chance.

Reading this thread from start to finish is interesting.

It is almost like fans being very quick to judge someone, not giving them a chance while playing at a new level and writing him off. Then having to eat a bit of humble pie for being wrong.

Still credit to those Barrow fans, they didn't forget their log in details when he has good games.

Hopefully the move has been a good introduction to first 11 football for Bobby

For whatever reason Mr Jolley did not make a good impression at Barrow, perhaps Bobby felt the brunt of that as he was linked with him when signing on loan, he was the new managers man.

However, he now playing centre in a back 3, and looks very comfortable.

Nothing could be better for his development than 6 months fighting the drop in division 3.

His next challenge will be holding a spot as part of a back 4.

Netted for Barrow tonight.

Away at FGR, its been a dream loan spell for him.

I would thinknthere will be no problem getting a loan fee for him next season.

Looked good when he played at Millwall.
I would think this loan spell has brought him on leaps and bounds, particularly given that he had to overcome a tricky start there.

Apparently he’s entered into Barrows history books as the first player born in the 21st Century to score a first team goal for them.
Done well for them after a rough start but hopefully after showing great promise v Millwall he can move to an higher league on loan next year. Star in the making hopefully!!

Won the penalty for the first, scored the second in a game that's guaranteed them safety in League Two. Congratulations Bobby and Barrow.
