When we're allowed back in

Post by fidelcastro » Sat Jan 30, 2021 3:29 pm

I was just thinking about this today...

When we're finally allowed to attend games again (whenever that might be), can we expect a near full stadium for our home games, or will some people, who have got out of the habit of going, simply stay away?

Is it fair to expect this to vary from club to club?

It will be some time before anywhere near full capacities will be allowed in so it will be hard to tell.

almost certain to be on a reduced level to start with I would say - personally would be surprised if it will be full stadiums by September/October no matter what the pressure from within the game

Do you think it's another full season away from full capacity? Back in March I said August 2021, now I'm not so sure.

Sadly, can’t see the Government allowing packed stadiums in autumn/winter next year.

Think the demand will return once permitted. Life’s become pretty boring and I’m sure everyone that’s been missing the Turf will want to retake their seats and enjoy the experience of live football again.

So you don't think that the vaccination programme, which wasn't available this winter, at least early enough or in sufficient quantities to make any difference, will not allow life life to return to near normality? The experts say that once you get past 2 ot of 3 people being immunised the pandemic is effectively dead in the water. Once we get near that total, or even once we get the most vulnerable categories near that percentage, then the national economic health will become the main priority of the government.

I think we’re at least another 14 months or so away from anything approaching full capacity being permitted in PL football grounds. Spring 2022 ?

I don't disagree with that, but please, let's not turn this into a COVID thread, or it'll be pulled.

Season tickets should only be sold to those with proof of vaccination.

I’m looking forward to reduced price tickets for unsold seats 2 hours before kickoff

1000 x £20 is £20,000

Not to be sniffed at

I think it’s great families go.

I just presumed everyone including children would eventually be vaccinated.

Good question. Wonder how it will affect people's pre-match routines too? Hard to imagine going into a packed pub for a good while yet

That will also depend on which pubs do reopen.

The Bob Lord stand will be full from the opening game. As it's full of the over 70s, who will have had their 2 injections and pose no threat of spreading Covids.

The government has said every adult in the U.K. will be offered a vaccination by September. If they hold to that (and it’s going well so far) and the vaccines are effective as claimed then surely there’s no reason for grounds not to be fully open by September.

Good point. Not that any of them have had it easy recently but the pubs near the Turf must have been particularly badly hit

The vaccine doesn't stop you catching or spreading the virus, it just stops you becoming very ill and needing treatment in hospital.

Aside from the fact that you need two vaccinations for the current vaccines to be fully effective. In addition, we don’t know to what extent vaccination will have on transmission of the virus. We won’t have fully open PL grounds in September.

If vaccinations are on target ant the majority are done then open the grounds and it`s down to an individual if they don`t want to take a risk especially if the risk is miniscule. otherwise we will be having this discussion in five years time as I don`t personally see it disappearing for a while yet.

It should be a fairly small percentage that have only had one as you have to have the second in 12 weeks, and the first offers a big part of the total protection.

As far as effect on infection is conferred, if the vaccines don’t stop people dying that will be enough, otherwise things will never get back to normal.

I can't speak for England, but they're hopeful some fans may be able to attend Scottish games come next season, however this hope comes with plenty of caveats https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55871217

So I'm guessing similar thoughts will apply down south, and if numbers get down to negligible levels there will be a much greater chance of crowds attending.

It'll be interesting to monitor how the Australian Open impacts on Melbourne if at all regarding cases in the community. That's the first major sporting event to have crowds for sometime, I know there has been nominal crowds at some of the cricket matches down under, but not over this length of time or on this scale.

I’m not being funny but you’ve started a thread asking for people’s opinions on what will happen when we are all allowed back in & then you are asking not to turn into a COVID thread, the two things are intrinsically linked regarding all the implications so what you are asking is nigh on impossible.

I think by having this many matches on tv it will generate extra interest. Next time we get there (probably 2022) we will have at least 3 of us instead of 2, if that is repeated elsewhere then I think we will see full houses.

If you bother to read my first post, I never mentioned COVID. Threads discussing that always lead to bickering, which is why they are off limits.

I was merely asking about people being eager to attend or not.

The vaccine, so far as is known, works like all other vaccines in that it stops the virus developing, it means that you don't know you have breathed it in, it prevents symptoms, and it makes it virtually impossible that you can spread it.

Sorry if this shouldn't be posted, but it's meant to be a simple statement of fact. Misinformation needs to be corrected because it will lead people astray.

The fact we will be allowed back in surely means the virus will no longer be deemed a threat, therefore no need to mention it. My question was more and enquiry into whether people will have been away too long and are in no hurry to go back because they've not longer got the desire.

If attendances go through the floor then that will be a relevant point, but I don't think that will be the reason some may choose to stay away.

I'll be there. I'll be at Turf Moor, the Crown Ground, Holt House, the Horsfield, Cougar Park, Lightfoot Green (if that's where the Wolverines are playing), Blackburn Arena, Ripon, Thirsk, Wetherby and Catterick racecourses, and American Family Park (the new name for Miller Park, Milwaukee). And anywhere else I can find some sport to watch.
