Looks like the tried and trusted " fingers crossed " approach for the rest of the season
Re: ARTICLE: Burnley not close to deals as injuries mount for City game
We're not likely to get anything from the City game
whoever plays as long as we keep the score respectable.
So hopefully a few will be back for the Brighton game
as that's important and one we can't afford to lose.

So, after all the cry-arising, Dyche wasn’t overly bothered about strengthening the squad last month.

So reading the article , Dyche is critical of the current transfer market while giving a big boost of confidence to his first team squad which is on the verge of having two key regulars Taylor and Barnes back on the field

He's not going to be stupid enough to have a go at the new owners yetagreenwood wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 2:38 pmSo, after all the cry-arising, Dyche wasn’t overly bothered about strengthening the squad last month.

Not too fussed about Wednesday, but the 3 games after that are hugely important, a decent run in those, and we'll be able to almost guarantee another season at the top table. A few wobbles in those, and it might be a nervy end to the campaign.

“I believe in what we have” - Sean Dyche.
What has changed since the beginning of the season then? signing Stephens!

TBF to Sean he would be daft not to back our current squad, and what do you expect him to say, that he doesn't believe they're good enough, yea that would really be a boost to them wouldn't it.
And it's worth remembering we've also extended 4 existing contracts, and those contracts will have to be paid for over the next year or two.

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley not close to deals as injuries mount for City game
I genuinely believe he does think they are good enough and to be honest, I think any signing made in January would have not made much impact to the next set of games anyway.
He trusts his players and I think he has shown that with his team selection.
We have a team which is experienced in this league and even with challenges of injuries we have enough in us to see us safe I believe.
We need to invest but it does appear that a benefit of the current situation - josh benson, mumbongo, dunne etc are all getting some playing time and whilst its not a household name or someone that we can get excited about in the same way as a new experienced pro can, I can accept the transfer market as a whole has shown the difficulty isn't just a Burnley problem.
The Davies transfer to Liverpool shows that it's not just about paying the biggest fee with reported larger fees being offered but the sell on and the loan in return and the knowledge of the player that they have a chance to play for the PL Champions can certainly influence things for a club and player. It's not just about chucking money about.

All well and good as long as Tarks, Mee or McNeil stay fit. If they don't then we're in trouble as history has shownclarethomer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 7:22 pmI genuinely believe he does think they are good enough and to be honest, I think any signing made in January would have not made much impact to the next set of games anyway.

He should’ve let Alan know that we weren’t even close to signing anybody.
Re: ARTICLE: Burnley not close to deals as injuries mount for City game
Or its a sign of someone checking out of the process as he doesn't believe in it anymore.

Agree with the risk. However, we were never going to sign anyone in this window that would have made that loss any less noticeable.DomBFC1882 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 7:26 pmAll well and good as long as Tarks, Mee or McNeil stay fit. If they don't then we're in trouble as history has shown
I would see Long and Dunne as being the ones being sent out if we were to lose one or both of our CB's. They are the ones who have the knowledge of our system and framework and will be fit.
McNeil - again we have the experience to step in with Brady/JBG, Cork, Westwood, Brownhill, Benson all sitting in midfield. Again, Dyche will see the understanding of the shape, the requirements of defence and attacking being understood by any wide player.

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley not close to deals as injuries mount for City game
It’s a legitimate question to ask whether he is going through the motions and has half an eye now on an exit, observing that nothing really changed in this window and that there may not be any cash with which to back him. Not over thinking it. On the flip side perhaps he is reassured he now seems to have a job for life according to Pace ..regardless of results seemingly.agreenwood wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 8:09 pmWell, you could choose some complex reverse psychology option or you could just take his comments at face value.

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley not close to deals as injuries mount for City game
I don’t think any really cares about the City game our season really starts in earnest on Sat vs Brighton. With some very realistic points to be had in Feb which will hopefully put us more or less towards safety .
While we miss Taylor hugely I’d expect him back very shortly ,as for Brady ,while we want him fit he’s been beyond awful and JBG is a like for like . Brownhill off gives Cork more pitch time which can only be good . Likewise with Jay and Vydra really .

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley not close to deals as injuries mount for City game
Not too worried about the current injury crop. We need to keep the Golden Triangle, McNeil, Cork and Westwood fit and we’ll be reyt.
