Yawn. Can't be arsed with ratings...other than to say that back in the day a div 1 team playing against a div 4 team would've been more competitive.

Starting to feel sorry for Dyche. He is just ******* in the wind. Deserves a club that supports him in transfer windows.
We tried hard but they must be the most skilful team in world football.

"Back in the day" the 1st division wasn't a play thing for obscenely wealthy Arabs and Americans to fuel their ego. Even the likes of Jack Walker wouldn't have been able to financially compete with these characters. Frankly, that is what it has become, a financial competition.
I'm not offering 'marks', but well done to the team in keeping the score down against Man City, a team assembled with hundreds of £ millions. Let's put it into perspective.

Pope 6 - mostly decent but that early error cost us
Lowton 7 - mostly did alright
Tarks 7 - both cbs did ok
Mee 7 - ditto
Pieters 6 - defensively a bit at sea but actually got forward
Cork 6 - started well but faded
Westwood 5 - struggled a bit tonight
Gudmunsson 6 - did ok
McNeil 5 - one cross aside really struggled
Vydra 7* - I thought he worked tirelessly and ensured we could at least get up the pitch (he won't score many though)
JayRod 4 - anonymous
Stephens 5 - kicked a few players.
Benson - not on long enough
Mumbongo 6 - tried

I've marked slightly higher than this but I'm quoting it because he's gone no lower than 5 and then only for three players. I don't get the 3s and 4s at all to be honest. Games just don't come tougher than a Man City in that sort of form. I think it is becoming even more difficult to play against them.

Pope 5 - poor on the first goal and some questionable distribution.
Lowton 6 - thought he stood up to the task well
Tarkowski 8* - very good tonight
Mee 7 - another who was very solid
Pieters 6 - always did just about enough against Mahrez.
Gudmunson 5 - slowed us down time and again on that side I'm afraid and some really sloppy passing.
Cork 4 - chasing shadows all night tonight. A tough ask in there though.
Westwood 6 - tidy on the ball but really difficult in there this evening.
McNeil 5 - a couple of glimpses of class but overall poor. Closed down very quickly by the City press.
Vydra 5 - some good movement but at times really struggled with the basics. Some very sloppy lay offs and poor hold up play.
Jay Rod 5 - worked hard but another who struggled with how quickly he was closed down by City.
It's always exceptionally tough against city and the difference in technical ability was very evident - but then it should be given the humongous gulf in expenditure. Having 3 of our more physical players in Taylor, Barnes and Wood also didnt help along with our midfielder who is the most adept at winning the ball. We defended well though, they didnt have a huge amount of shots and were very limited in terms of big chances.
A tedious watch as ever against City but no huge damage to the goal difference nor confidence and we move on to the next game with hopefully a few big players back.

Jay 5 I have always been a big fan but at minute he’s a yard off it.
Vydra 6 mom

Nowhere near the worst we’ve seen and they all genuinely tried against a great side, but nobody did anything above the minimum expectation of effort.

Poop 6 (-1 for basically ruining the match before it had barely begun!)
Lowton 6
Tarks 7*
Mee 7
Pieters 5 (I know he's primarily a defender, but he's bloody awful going forward and ALWAYS turns back in promising situations!)
Westwwod 7
Cork 6
JBG 5 (I'm a fan, but he's not the player he was and I wouldn't have been extending his contract)
McNeil 5 (Totally AWOL second half)
Vydra 7 (Really worked hard and did cause City to break sweat about twice)
Jayrod 4 (Ran about a bit, but caused NOBODY in their team to break into a sweat)
Stephens 5
Mumbongo 8 (He did more in 10 minutes than Jay has in the past 2 games. And John Stones knows he's been in a game now!)
It's tough, we know and nobody expected us to get anything other than a hiding. We avoided the hiding (how??) but were run rings round for about 87 of the 90 minutes. Pope throwing one in tonight is better than him doing it on Saturday, but sadly it killed the game after only 2 minutes. We had to have half an eye on upcoming games and Saturday is far, far more important to us, BUT we have to keep the ball better, pass it better and pose a credible threat up front or we really will be ruing that January transfer window!

I do get they are a great team but our game plan against them is bizarre.
We line up exactly the same time after time and don’t alter if it’s 1,2,3,4 or five.
It’s no wonder we are dispirited and beaten before kick off.

Whilst I agree with what you are saying, it does feel like we seem to be the only team that haven’t been able lay a glove on them over the passed 3 years, and by that we offer absolutely nothing going forward, barely a shot on goal

Pope 5 - Curate's Egg. Set the tone unfortunately although did make an excellent 1v1 stop.
Lowton 5
Tarkowski 7
Mee 6
Pieters 6
Westwood 5 - not going to win vs these in 2 man midfield
Cork 5
Guðmundsson 4 - chooses to go back way too much
McNeil - 5
Rodriguez 4 - as poor as I've seen tonight
Vydra 7 - next to no service but at least he went looking and held up what little he did get.
On the one hand we know there's a gulf in class. We know this is a free hit.
On the other hand there has to be a concern that the last 2 games have been so non-competitive they're almost like training sessions. Their keepers could have deckchairs out for all we trouble them. Know it's not easy but other teams don't seem to create nothing. I don't know why Dyche won't consider 4-5-1 vs these to at least maybe allow a little more possession - would it be any worse than the cakewalks that 4-4-2 produce twice a season.

Pope 7 -1 for goal
Lowton 4 tackle like a man ffs Sterling should have got the Bardsley treatment early doors
Tarkowski 7
Mee 5 stop the long aimless punts forward
Pieters 5 crap crosses but kept going till the end
JBG 6 best provider we had but not many opportunities
Westwood 4 poor again, just one good ball forward
Cork 4 poor in possession
McNeil 5 wasted to many good chances to take the game to them by turning back and losing the initiative
Vydra 7 * Mom for someone with so little game time showed well for the ball and controlled it well, times he could have done better but overall did ok
Rodriguez 4 Sorry Jay, never seemed at it
Subs All 5 not really a game to come on and make a difference really
Dyche 3 for not at least attempting a change of formation to affect the game, it was basically a free hit so this was the game to do it

Some drama queens on here. It’s not Dyche’s or the players fault, it’s just a complete sporting mismatch.
We’d have to play a conference side for the gulf to be as big as it is between us and city.

Last three years means different City squads - this current squad have now won their last nine games and conceded just one goal and that one a consolation in stoppage time. There are a lot of teams can't lay a glove on them right now. I thought we did as well as we possibly could have done tonight having gone behind so early.

He was awful. Didn’t protect Lowton, didn’t hold the ball, didn’t progress through the lines carrying or passing. Got dragged inside time and time again allowing the fullbacks and even centre backs to carry into the channel and create.

City are some team. They make the game look so easy. As a qualified coach it's a pleasure to watch, just not against Burnley
Pope 7 - Poor for 1st goal (although wow that was hit) and 1 dodgy pass but I thought he was good tonight. He also tried to play from the back and we looked quite good at times doing it.
Lowton 7 - put a shift in
Tarkowski 7 - solid
Mee 7 - as Tarks
Pieters 7 as Lowton
JBG 5 - offered nothing
Westwood 5 - game passed him defensively and wasn't fantastic going forward. Looks on his knees to be honest. Some decent balls into the channel though
Cork 6 - marginally better than Westwood.
McNeil 6 - tried but can't do it on his own
Vydra 6 - much like McNeil. Pump balls up to his chest and he's never going to be good. Put balls into channel and hey presto, we have a forward in there
Rodriguez 5 - hmmm, can't be fully fit and must have played as a last resort
I liked the subs. We were never going to win the game so why not give the young lads game time.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them win everything this year.
They are on a different level to every other club in the league. For how good Van Dijk has been, I think Dias will turn out better. He just looks immense I literally can’t see a weakness to his game.

Your spot on. This Man City team is one of the best I've watched in the modern Premier League era. They really did remind me of the Barca side when Pep managed them. The game was just so simple for them. The fact we kept it to 2 was testament to the players
