I think he might find himself in a spot of bother with the FA after this incident in the Ipswich-Northampton match, you can't show aggression like that as a player let alone an official

What Burnley games has Drysdale had?
Got to admit I can't remember but then again I never remember refs, neither the good nor the bad.
But Drysdale's name rings a bell. End of the line is that when a referee's name rings a bell he usually is one.

Drysdale gave Marney a straight red in a home game. Can’t remember the opponents but it was a ridiculous decision.

Definitely did our games against Hull and Cardiff in 2005/06, our 2-3 home defeat to Southampton in 2006/07 and our game against Birmingham in around 2012. Also did the league cup win against Forest when Ings scored two terrific goals.
He’s on about 25 points in Rate the Ref, so he’s one of the very pooorest officials we’ve ever had.

I remember in the Forest game they wore a black away kit and he wore a black ref kit. Extremely trivial I know but another sign of his ineptitude when reffing ourselves.

I've seen Drysdale ref a few games at Stevenage, inept and enormously arrogant best describes him from my "experience" and I'm not at all surprised by last night's incident. As arbiters of fair play on the pitch what he did needs to be treated as unacceptable, he takes steps forward to engage the player so for me he is in the wrong.

The player has walked 8 or 10 paces towards him, clearly angry, clearly saying something. The referee has taken a step forward which he shouldn't do.
There must have been serious provocation for this to have happened.
I don't condone his reaction but the sooner we mic up referees the sooner players will think twice about bad mouthing and challenging their decisions.
It is very difficult to hold your nerve and remain calm when being provoked my players. I remember 1 game I had a couple of seasons ago, where I hadn't given a free kick on the half way line and the CM was adamant that he should have had one. He came in very angry abusing me in the process. Thankfully his team mates grabbed him and dragged him away before he got that close to me. When I watch the clip back I acknowledge that the way I thrust the card in the air was very aggressive and will not have helped diffuse the situation. I learnt from it and try various calming techniques before engaging with a player.

There is never any need for any play to speak to the referee, unless it’s a safety issues (e.g. ref hasn’t spotted a head injury)
IMO all players should be banned from talking to the ref unless they are spoken to first. A yellow card for first offence, a red for second. Will cause carnage for a couple of weeks and then players would tow the line

Drysdale later sent off Ipswich captain Downes after giving him a yellow for a fairly innocuous looking foul and then a red presumably for gobbing off. In the Judge incident, which was preceded by a blatant dive by said player, Downes also jostles and manhandles the referee, I am surprised that nothing has been said or done about that. Looks like Darren took his opportunity to extract his revenge in this case.
Mark Halsey expects the incident to be investigated by the Ref's ruling body, but personally I can't see a lot in this myself although Drysdale does look a bit demented.

You should remember, he's been shocking.
2005/06 - Cardiff (a)
2005/06 - Hull (a)
2006/07 - Southampton (h)
2012/13 - Birmingham (h) - sent off Dean Marney which was rescinded on appeal
2013/14 - Nottingham Forest (h) - League Cup
2015/16 - Cardiff (a) - the game where their player tipped the ball over the bar with his hand and he gave nothing.
At the time of his last Burnley game at Cardiff he was bottom of Rate the Ref and nothing in that game was ever going to improve his rating.
The games above are the Burnley games he's refereed, the ones I've highlighted are the ones when I thought he was appalling.

So serious he saw fit to issue a yellow card?
Lambert is right on this, had it been the other way round Judge would be looking at a lengthy ban.

The yellow card we are led to believe was for the dive. The card was already out of the pocket before the player headed towards the referee.
Interesting point re the other way round. In law there was no head butt so at worst a yellow card for adopting an aggressive attitude (C1 UB)
If he had deemed offensive, insulting or abusive language then a red card is issued.
What I don't understand is why a referee would act like that if there had been NO provocation.
He has now been charged by the FA
Time will tell as to what actually happened.

Lambert is 100% correct, Judge would not have been playing for a long time to come had it been the other way round.
Rightly charged by the FA and hopefully a lengthy suspension.

Would like to think this could be a turning point. Obviously refs can’t be confrontational like this but I can understand why it came to this the way players behave. Zero tolerance to Back chat, but send players off don’t threaten to head butt them. Two weeks it would take to sort players out.

Very much so - I believe we were planning to sign him at the end of that season but he suffered a serious injury in a game at Ipswich in April of that year and it was almost two years before he played again.

Player attempts to deceive the referee with a dive - no action taken
Player screams obscenities at Ref - yellow card.
Ref reacts and makes aggressive gesture towards player - talk of long term ban for referee.
Even more interesting for me is if a player headbutts a player, its a three match ban and all done.
The referee is out of line, no doubt about it, but why he is expected to tolerate the behaviour from those around him without serious repercussions is beyond me.

In his 9-5 life, Drysdale is a Sergeant in the R.A.F. ..... I think Judge can think himself lucky !
It's also Drysdale's 50th birthday today, I wonder if he thought, " I always promised the missus I'd pack up at 50, I wonder if I should lay this gobby, diving little pr**k clean out, on behalf of every Mum, Wife and Girlfriend of referees who've had to listen to their son/husband etc be abused by any number of talentless, cheating wage-stealing b***ends over the years ! " ..... but then thought better of it !
Shame, he'd have been assured of being remembered as a Ref, and a quiz question for decades !

And what punishment do you think a player would receive if he headbutted a referee? Just to offer some thought, Di Canio did no more than push referee Paul Alcock but it landed him an eight game ban.
Drysdale, by the way, has been removed from his game this weekend which I think was Southend v Bolton.

He has a responsibility to behave on the field of play just the same as the referee has. Just because Drysdale wasnt a Burnley player and was instead a referee does not mean you should wish punishment on him.
You far too often car grudges against match officials
Sadly players seem to get away with it. I really hope there is a massive clamp down on abuse in the game.

If you are referring to the Southampton game when he was denied the clearest of penalties, I actually reported at the time that having been carded for being taken out by the goalkeeper he was very fortunate not to get a second yellow for his rant. What would you want me to do, run on and red card him?
What amazes me with you is that you will defend referees to the hilt. When they make a bad decision, you try and tell us it's correct. When they have bad games, you try and tell us they haven't. I used to think tybfc's brother was bad enough.
I'll support you on wanting abuse clamping down whether that abuse is aimed at players, referees, supporters or whoever, it's downright shocking. Alan Judge had no right to wag his finger in the referee's face but what happened next is totally unacceptable.
