Sometimes but very rarely the destoning machine splits the olive in two...if this occurs the vandalised olive will be counted has half of one.

Steve, the longstanding Official Fragmentation Rule is that any Unit of half or more than half of the average size is Counted as a full one, whilst any of less than half-size is not.
Half-Units are not otherwise recognised.

It's dead easy, Steve.
If there are indeed fragmented Units, most will be readily identifiable as below or above half the average full Unit size.
If there is still doubt, then having identified an average-sized full one simply compare each fragmented item with it; thereby establishing whether the latter is above, below or equal to half of full size.
