Jermaine Jenas

Post by Woodleyclaret » Sat Feb 20, 2021 8:47 am

Seems to have settled into a nice post football career as an interviewer
I never rated him as a player always seemed to be in the cba category, playing if he felt like it. But makes some intelligent comments .I always felt Clarke Carlise would have a decent media career but his demons got the better of him.

The BBC are grooming him as the next presenter of Match of the Day

He also presents The One Show from time to time.

I like him. He's articulate and as Woodley says he adds useful insight.

He’s very good as is Danny Murphy. Both articulate and fair in their assessments. Lineker is overpaid for what he offers and Carney and Clinton Morrison are shocking. Thought Chris Iwelumo was good the other day for our match but Bobby Zamora did not come across well.

I love this overpaid angle... I can’t wait for Jeans to get the gig, and then he’ll be overpaid too

I actually quite like Clinton Morrison, always makes me chuckle.

Big Chris is very good, don't recall hearing Zamora

Efan Ekoku was brilliant on our game the other week. Knowledgeable, understood what we were about and avoided the usual ‘physical’ cliches.

None of them appear to demonstrate to be uncovering any revelations so I just mute the volume instead of listening to them, the radio it’s not as easy as you have to know what’s going on & listening to them isn’t optional.

Is that because he struggles with basic English, or his lack of footballing knowledge

He's a funny guy that's why.
He doesn't lack knowledge, maybe it's not presented in a way you like.

Find him as dull as ditchwater. I Start watching motd 20 mins late so you can fast forward the punditry. It’s a tired format having ex players on - we know all about Playing between the lines , pockets of space , high press blah blah blah now.
Used to love Sunday supplement though - those journo blokes know stuff we don’t and it’s fascinating when they give you a glimpse

He's okay but on MOTD he has to be taught to stop constantly using the phrase "Don't get me wrong" in the majority of his sentences.

He's always very comfortable on camera and comes across well.

He doesn't always have anything interesting to say but you can see why the BBC might think of him as presenter material. He'd be a better presenter than pundit IMO.

Ekoku is excellent as is Iwellumo.

Never thought I’d say it but you miss Alan Hansen these days on motd.

Not a massive fan of shearer but at least he was a top player.

Ian wrights good if only for his passion and enthusiasm.

He’s pretty poor on the One Show, whenever I’ve seen him presenting. He appears to have memorised his set of questions and still asks them, even when the interviewee covered the exact same thing in a previous response.

On MOTD though, I think he’d half decent and comes across as a decent bloke.

Anyone is better than the uber-ubiquitous Alex Scott but I find Jenas pretty bland and, being of the wrong demograhic, cringe at that bloody awful "MotD X" programme he hosts. There was a bit of glorification of his career on the BBC website the other day when we were invited to watch his "finest Premier League moments" because it was his birthday. I expected to see the inside of the physio's room but they found a few goals.

On Sky Sports the other day was Jamie Mackie covering our game against Fulham. I thought he was excellent. Talked about both sides, seemed to understand the way we play, and gave a good impression of what was going on.

Mackie was summarising another game on SSN the other night and was excellent. You can tell those who have researched and are genuinely passionate talking about football a mile off.

Graham Souness is Very good ..Very measured in his views on any given Game along with Owen Hargreaves. Jermain Jenas like Alex Scott is just filling his Boots on Lots of different subjects While he can and Taking the dosh. As Footballers I recall nothing significant about either of them.

Yeah, Alex Scott only won about 140 England caps... to put that into context, that's more than Peter Shilton.

Still, nothing significant, eh?

Lee Dixon often commentates on Burnley games here in the US.......I think he's the best of the bunch that we get.........some could put you to sleep, others are too fawning on the big sides to be bearable.

Yes that is a fact but over the period of time when those caps were won do you think the level of competitiveness, and required ability, across the two achievements were comparable ? I think that is the point being made. Women players struggle for credibility as pundits in the eyes of many fans of (mens) football because it is not felt that their experience qualifies them to comment as "experts" on the men's game with it's level of pace and intensity. There...that's what you were waiting for someone to say I think.

He's everywhere!!!!
He is to presenting what Peter Crouch is to adverts.

Honestly, I can't remember the last time I went a day without him popping up. Whether it's on the BBC, including the bloody one show, that seemed weird. Or BT Sports or who knows what else. It's like in a world of covid, Jenas has managed to get every gig haha

I wasn't denying about the level of competitiveness, more the assertion that 140 England caps means she achieved nothing. It's simply not true.

Ian Wright has stated lately that he’s had to up his game lately as a pundit because his female counterparts seem better prepared. Let a thousand flowers bloom! :D
