You’ve got to feel for Barrow fans. Their return to the football league (after 50 years) was sealed through an administrative process and by the time the fans return to the stadium they’ll likely have been relegated back to non-league.

“It has become apparent even in such a short space of time that unfortunately the Board and Michael have differing visions for how the team should play, which has led to this change being made,” said Chairman Paul Hornby.

Rob Kelly got the job until the end of the season so that's three appointments and two sackings since they won promotion. Maybe Hornby should manage the team himself if he wants to dictate the way they play.

Michael Jolley was appointed on Christmas Eve so he's had 59 days in charge.

They lost by the only goal of the game the other night and apparently it was as a result of a howler from on loan CB Bobby Thomas which was a real shame as the only time I've seen him play he was excellent.

I believe he's struggling a bit - but it can't be easy going into a club fighting at the bottom of the league, being in and out of the team, at 19. He'll come through that. I noticed Mace Goodridge made his debut yesterday as a half time substitute. Difficult for these two lads now, went there on the back of Jolley's relationship with Sean Dyche.

I'm guessing he walked away from the job in Sweden at Eskilstuna then? I remember he was close to saving them from relegation from the top flight there but don't remember what went on afterwards from there.

Absolutely, I thought at the time it was an excellent little arrangement as Jolly and Dyche would have that relationship to help our younger players get game time and develop, but as you say, the team is really struggling and things have deteriorated rapidly and nobody really wants young lads in the midst of a relegation scrap as it's no good for either party.
They actually seem to lose really narrowly most weeks and that has been the case all season, even when Dunn was there, so they can't be hopeless.

You prompted me to go and look at the league table. There are three teams now a mile behind. Southend and Grimsby have goal differences of -27 and -26 but Barrow's is just -7 having lost nine more than they've won. Their biggest defeat was against Cheltenham when they lost 3-0. That was the last game before Jolley took over.

The chairman can say what he likes, they've sacked him because they've got four points from eight games since he took over.

Bobby Thomas and Mace Goodridge are there until the end of the season so let's hope Kelly sees enough in them to give them some game time.

That's nothing compared to being a burnley fan during a transfer window 😁😂

Not looking good for our lads. Yesterday Thomas didn't play, and Goodridge (who I don't believe has started a game yet for Barrow) was a half-time sub.
So I thought i'd check on our other players out on loan:
Jensen (Bolton) hasn't played.
Cooney (Morecambe) seems to have lost his place, could be injured?
Gibson (Norwich) did not play (nothing new there ;) )
Phillips (Accrington) He seems to be making a decent fist of his loans out. Played 90.

You'd assume in his job interview - which would only have been a few weeks ago - Michael Jolley would have explained his managerial style and how he would expect the team to play - it would seem unlikely that he got the job and then tried to do something completely different

I agree that it's hugely disappointing that the club has been out of the league for 50 years have come back and could well get relegated again without their fans have a chance to witness their return but that statement from the club doesn't say much for the quality of their recruitment process

It's a shame Ian Evatt went to Bolton - keeping him would probably have been their best chance of survival

Part of the modern world... everything immediately. Instant fix short term planning by definition cannot create the stability for sustained progress and development. By not sticking to their decisions the Barrow board are at best making sure they remain in the same position to have the same struggles next season, at worst they are destabilising a struggling team further. Either way Barrow has inevitably taken another step backwards as a club and made it even more likely they will be relegated and likely sooner rather than later.

Ian Evatt at Bolton said he's been hugely impressed with Jensen but is letting him settle into the environment before playing him allowing goalkeeper coach Matt Gilks to play. Strangely though, Jensen isn't making the bench.
Cooney was starting until recently but came on as a sub for two games. Was also on the bench last Saturday.
Gibson is out injured, missing tonight's game at Birmingham too.
Phillips has gone straight into the team at Stanley, started five games for them.

At Barrow
Thomas - three starts and one sub appearance
Goodridge - one sub appearance

Why?

From what dealings I had with him at Burnley, bad egg is the exact opposite of how I'd view him.

Matt Gilks must be getting on a bit. He's been around for years.

Can't argue with those numbers, and they clearly made the right decision. I must admit at the time I had my doubts, but they made a tough call and it's paid off handsomely for them.

Thomas is getting a lot of praise from Barrow fans on Twitter tonight. Seems like he’s turned it around there.

Good to hear, it's easy to forget he's still only 20 and learning the game, so he will make mistakes, but it appears he's now settled at Barrow, and they should now retain their place in the FL in large part due to his efforts.
