Roast Dinner Deliveries Nelson/Colne

My elderly Mum lives between Nelson and Colne and has been going through a tough time recently. We live 250 miles away in Devon and cant visit or bring her down here at the minute and she is craving a Roast Dinner. I am struggling to find anywhere that delivers so I was wondering if anybody knew of a pub/cafe/restaurant that is doing something like this? Any thoughts advice gratefully received. Thanks in Advance.

What about a fellow claret that lives locally plating up a spare dinner for her?
Nice thing to do for someone elderly who is having a tough time.

See if you've got Deliveroo, Uber or Just Eat operating where she is.

Shooters are as well. Seems like the Emmott Arms and Shooters are really popular so you'd have to get your order in early.

Never had it myself but the locals rave about the Lawrence Hotel food in Padiham.

Might have to wait for Wellsy's opinion first though.

The Hospice are doing a "Meals on Wheels" delivery service 7 days a week. It was Roast Chicken dinner today. My dad has them several days a week. We have a team of Volunteer drivers and can deliver anywhere between Barnoldswick and Padiham. I'm not sure exactly what the arrangements are for payment, but I think it's now £6 / day for 2 courses, and of course all profits go to Pendleside Hospice.
(You don't have to be a cancer sufferer or carer in order to order meals).
Edit: (Woody) It might give you peace of mind to sign her up for a few days per week with you being so far away? She'll also get a brief chat with a friendly driver. [All covid "safe" of course])

Hi Tony Thanks for asking. Lockdown has been long and tough for her. She has had a few health issues recently and in the early hours of Thursday fell and banged her head and ended up in Burnley then Blackburn hospital. She's ok now but shaken up. We wanted to bring her down at Christmas but she didn't want to potentially bring COVID to Exmouth or break rules. She's pretty chirpy considering but doesn't see anyone and we don't have family left in the area. So this will help and Emmott Arms have come back to me and seem very friendly.
Hope you are well and recovering from yesterday.

My Mum has mentioned this I think but not got round to doing it so I will push her as this is a great idea to do it 2/3 times a week. Thank you.

Hopefully Emmott Arms will deliver, before the lockdown it was one of the best Sunday lunches around. I've had take out from there around 1month ago which was good.

Also had Sunday lunch take out from Shooters a few times which again was OK.

My wife saw someone advertising on Facebook doing Sunday lunch yesterday - I'll try and find the details as they delivered.

Not Sunday lunch but had afternoon tea from Alkinscoates Pavilion today which was good value and very tasty.

Which town does she live in? Nelson, Colne, Barrowford? There are probably local pubs that could deliver. The Emmot Arms is a good shout but not if she lives in Nelson as its a fair trek.

Edit: just to add, the Trawden Arms also does an amazing roast, the Yorkshire puddings are massive, but alas, may have closed.

Apart from the Shooters there's not much left in Nelson pub wise. There's talk of the Trawden Arms being bought by the village and run as a community pub. Hopefully they can save it, would be a shame to see another pub go.

Such a great offer. Thank you. The Emmott is delivering a Roast Lamb Dinner for £16 so I think that will be great for a treat and pick me up for her
and then look to do the Hospice meal on wheels a couple of times a week. Thank you again for your very kind offer.

I found this thread quite moving really. To me, this thread and the offers of help illustrate all that's good about this extended family of Burnley supporters. Also a thread with no bickering, no name calling but with genuine offers of help.
I'm sorry I can't offer to help - I don't live in the UK but I hope the problem is quickly resolved...wouldn't mind seeing the look on her face when her roast dinner arrives!

What a great thread and it's what this board is all about. You can ask a question about nearly any subject and there will be someone who can offer advice or help out.

Whereabouts in Exmouth are you Woody? My in laws live on Hulham Rd and i cannot wait until we are allowed to visit again. We had a Friday and Saturday evening down there in December just as the move to put most of the country into Tier 4 was happening that very weekend.

We used to refer to that area as the boundary around the golden ball now spinning yarn, not sure where colne ends or Nelson starts.

I couldn't agree more with either of you. This is the message board at its best.

I just happen to know Woody's mum, or did know her but it's a lot of years ago. But it doesn't matter who it is, what a fantastic response he got to help his mum. I've had similar offers on this board too, more so in the last year. You are right Surat, it is moving.

Hi Herts
We live just off Hulham Road actually (but of course its a big road) but about half way up.
I love Exmouth
Very Blue Collar, working class town and very much like a Northern town where folks talk to you when you are out and about.

As I have already said this is a great board and I wasn't at all surprised to get such a good response but even so the help and goodwill has been very gratifying.

She lives just off Pinder Street which to me seems closer to Colne than Nelson but has a Nelson postcode.

It is a long old road. They live quite near the bottom by the shop, on the right hand side as you go up from Exeter Road.

Just to update. We ended up using Paul Hilton on Facebook. Thanks loyal Claret. He was great to deal with and delivered (according to Mum) a cracking Roast Lamb with Prawn Cocktail as a starter. There was so much Mum had two four meals from. Two lunches from a huge PC and two teas from the roast. Mum is a lot better mentally and with her second vaccine booked in for Thursday (she missed it previously due to sudden illness) hopefully her mental well being will improve and we can pick her up soon for a break in Devon. As with most of us there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks again to all for your input and good wishes. Much appreciated. Woody and Sheila (Mum).

Hi may have missed but does she have a microwave? My Dad whos 98 next month has a mixture of foods either provided by my self, what he buys form shops either delivered by his cleaner or myself. He also gets a delivery every 2 weeks from Wiltshire farm foods 5 or 6 meals for about £23. He or I rings up asks for either previous order or give a new one and they deliver 3 days later, he is in sheltered accommodation near Turf moor and they bring it in to his apartment and will put in the freezer. He gets different size meals they have a smaller plate size and what a slightly bigger one. He gets the smaller one for every day teas and the other size for a larger tea. He says the small one he can eat, but wants a pudding as well the larger on he just about finishes. Not sure if this helps.

My Mum generally does pretty well coping and cooking for herself and like me is a bit of a foodie so she doesn't go without. She is internet savvy enough to order the odd Asda delivery and is a decent cook but its hard cooking for yourself and certainly bothering with an all the trimmings Roast. After a tough week and being shaken up by having to spend far too much time in Blackburn (hospital) it was all about raising her spirits and it worked. Thanks again.

If she needs her spirits raising again in the future Woody give me a shout - I'll knock something up (I was a chef for years) and take it to her. She might have to warm it up as I'm a bit further away but it'd be no issue. I'd hate the thought of my mother being or own in a similar state. Fortunately she's done ok during lockdown and I've managed to see her very and again

A few comments from me on this again.

1. Can't agree more with that. I used to love a roast but you can't really for one.
2. Pleased your mum's on the mend.
3. And I'll repeat how heartwarming this thread has been.
