I spent more than 30 years travelling on that line. I never saw Reggie Perrin, not even once. It was only very occasionally that the carriages were like the ones in the picture with comfy seats. We were regularly more than 11 minutes late.

Not been on a train for 12 months now. Got my "free travel card" - but we aren't allowed to travel.

I didn't get where I am today....

Without knowing a good tv programme.

Don't know Jim Bowen coined 'Super, smashing, great'. I think. So you might be thinking of him.

One of the comedy greats Leonard Rossiter. Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin and Rising Damp from an age of brilliant comedy programmes on TV.

Fantastic sitcom...has to be one of the greatest of all time. Difficult to believe that Rossiter wasn't first choice to play Reggie! I empathise with the (approximate) words of the late, great Ronnie Barker (who was the author's original choice to play Reggie) "I still wake in the morning and think I am Reggie Perrin". The novel by David Nobbs is, to my mind, even funnier than the tv series and well worth a read. I read it at least once a year, never get tired of it and always laugh my bits off! Could make for an interesting thread.....tv comedies that may well be good but aren't as good as the original novel. I'd venture to add Tom Sharpe's Porterhouse Blue to any such list. The tv version with David Jason et al was funny but the book is truly hilarious. UTC EAC

It won’t have dated in my opinion because it was so different to most things at the time, being a little bizarre and at times ever so slightly dark.
The same could not be said of The Young Ones. Tried watching repeats of that and it might have well have the date stamped on it. I tried to think why it was funny and it might have been the chemicals in my head at the time. Rick Mayall and Ade Edmundson made that funny, all else fails. And who the hell ever told Alexis Sayle he was funny? Even then I couldn’t get with his alleged humour.

I've got the box set somewhere. Brilliant by Rossiter. One of my favourite comedy actors. Love the expression when he gets sidetracked with this thoughts and drifts away from reality.

The TV series were superb but the books are even better and recommended.

I'm too young to have seen this when it first came out. Watched it for the first time at uni in the late 90s when someone lent me the VHS box set. It is indeed brilliant comedy. Same goes for Yes Minister - some of the best comedy writing I've seen on British TV.

A bit of a tangent, but I loved the Cinzano adverts Leonard Rossiter did with Joan Collins.

Another seriously underated comedy of that era although a touch later was Brass, a spoof of Dallas, Bridesheadvrevisited and other such shows.

Its quite sad for me that programmes such as this and FOOLS & HORSES were absolute classics, and little to rival them today

You were persona non grata at my school if you hadn't watched The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin the night before. All the catchphrases were bandied about constantly. It was brilliant.

Leonard Rossiter was my dad's half cousin. I watched '...Reggie Perrin' with dad every week and he never said a word. My aunty told me Rossiter was related years later.
