Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
Good news but is it worth risking any of them before the Leicester game. Take the hit vs Spurs if we have too, but we can't afford for them to miss any more.
Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
Not much good news there except maybe Wood is back in training. Sounds like it will be a similar team to the last game

Not the best article I've read, but good news if there's a chance Wood might feature if only from the bench.

Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
Great idea in theory - but we don't have the kind of squad depth, nor sufficient points on the board, to realistically not use our senior players whenever they are available. To my mind, the Tottenham game presents just as high a possibility of getting 1 or 3 points as the Leicester game anyway, so why rest players?Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 2:13 pmGood news but is it worth risking any of them before the Leicester game. Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
I think the good news is Wood training and Jay Rod expecting to be fit after suffering another injury last week.

Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
I did mention Woods return and I was not aware of JRod being in doubt. We clearly need JGB or Brady back. I like Brownhill but not wide right. Would be tempted to play Lowton at right midfield with Bards at full back. Especially away from home. Lowton is an excellent crosser of the ball and of course is way better defensively than JBG or Brady.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 2:28 pmI think the good news is Wood training and Jay Rod expecting to be fit after suffering another injury last week.

Spurs are currently 18th in the form table, with 3 points from the last 6 games. The Foxes are 4th with 11 points from the same amount of games.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 2:13 pmGood news but is it worth risking any of them before the Leicester game. As said further up, we're just as likely to get something off Spurs as Leicester.

I think the bulletin just underlines the massive issue we have currently regarding squad size. Of course I'm aware it is what it is but these are really trying times for the club and in particular, the manager. If we/ he can survive this then I think that will count as his greatest achievement with us. It's a nightmare scenario.

Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
Well....I don’t see much good news there. Hope I’m wrong but think we will be pointless this Sunday.
Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
Still don’t think some of our fans realise how decimated we have been. Even Pope missed a match with concussion and of the 19 senior pros I make it only Kevin Long and Ashley Westwood who haven’t been injured. Because of Cork’s injury we’ve not played our best eleven in any league match and only our best ten in the Palace home game.
We are currently doing ok with our best 9 missing Wood and JBG but for much of the season have been 4 or 5 short. Plenty of teams in our position would be relegated on the back of that but we are still, just about staggering through.
If Wood is fit we have our best 10 with only JBG missing but nothing on the bench. We all knew we were 2/3 senior players down but the injury situation has been dire since the restart in June and Dyche deserves so much credit for handling it like he has.

And I feel sure that many times we have seen players playing despite carrying knocks that would have seen them rested if we had PL ready players available to replace them.

Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
The warning signs were there for all to see when we had several goalkeepers and young kids filling the bench towards the end of last season, when injuries hit us hard exposing the threadbare nature of our squad.
Scandalous that transfer windows have come and gone leaving a situation of cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Well at least we signed Dale Stephens as cover!
Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
It's a pity Ali and Bale are back in their team other wise I would have fancied getting something from the game.
On the flip side Spurs defence isn't the best by a long way and if Dier is playing at the back and Woods is back, well maybe!

I don't know why, but my gut feeling tells me we won't get anything from Spurs. I said in another thread, they areca wounded animal, and due a result.
I think we can get something from Leicester at home, but we'll need as fit a team as possible.
An away trip instead of an extra 3 days recuperation doesn't seem worth the risk imo.

Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
JBG unlikely for this weekend. Does that mean he isn't too far off from being fit?
Seems very surprising as hamstring injuries often take a few weeks to recover from.

They’ll only play if fit to play. JBG stopped as soon as he felt his hamstring tighten, immediately taken off so more likely to be a small strain rather than a tear which is what needs a couple of months.

Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
How many "take the hit" fixtures are there in the Premier League. Surely bar Man City we have a hope of beating anyone on our day. Releases like this one re availability of players just emphasises how insufficently small our squad is . I cannot see us having a full squad for the rest of the season, which will seriously challenge us our ability to stay clear of the danger zoneColburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 2:13 pmGood news but is it worth risking any of them before the Leicester game. Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
Historically yes, but we look like we've had a few players this last month, playing when not fully fit.
That brings a risk of further injury. I just don't see Sunday as a game where the risk is worth it.

Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
we are not that predictable though. Have we ever been? For as long as I can remember we have taken points from games we, theoretically, had no chance in but dropped points, as we did last week, against teams who people expected us to be able to cruise to the 3 points. Not always, and not even regularly, but frequently enough to make us almost impossible to bet on.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 6:51 pmHistorically yes, but we look like we've had a few players this last month, playing when not fully fit.

Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
Having a squad large enough to rotate tactically just isn't viable for our Club hence having no one of real 'game changing ability' behind the main 14 or 15 outfield players when injuries hit.
I honestly can't see it being any different in the future, the cost is too prohibitive so we really need to exploit the loan market.

Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
I understand that, but as we all saw in the West Brom game, players are running on empty. If we had the full week off, post Spurs, as it was supposed to be, I'd agree with you, but chucking this Leicester game in mid week, lets face it, because it suits them, puts us between a rock and a hard place.bfcmik wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 7:32 pmwe are not that predictable though. Didn't we start the season with a bunch of key players out injured too?
Even I could've predicted the injury heavy season ahead for most clubs given the bunched up games and small break between seasons.
Dyche has done well sure but he's also accountable for not bringing in players to ease the issues.

You love it don't you. Have a think. Do you think I might have meant wait until today. They went out last night. So we could have played them weeks later, when we could have had more chance of winning with 2 fit wingers, for example.

No you.
The PL don't have a crystal ball to tell them when Leicester are going to be knocked out of the EL, so I'll ask again, what if they had made the final, when could the game have been scheduled?

Like I have said. Any Thursday night. Why the rush to rearrange? It's not like it was delayed from ages ago. Do you think a top 6 club would have rolled over and agreed with such an injury situation.
This is why despite a £125m turnover, sometimes we are amateurs.

Agreed , he’s the best we have at putting the ball in the net. It’s a difficult job keeping onside as Jay found out in Wood’s absence and he is infuriating at times but he knows how to get into scoring positions and when confident is as good as any striker outside the top half a dozen in the league

Take the hit??? We have beaten Liverpool and Arsenal away so far and you want us to lie down for an out of form Spurs who we have a decent record against even when they are playing well? We should be going all out for every game now to try to break into the top half, or are you one of the fans who just want 17th place? Play our strongest possible team in every game now that relegation is nearly impossible.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 2:13 pmGood news but is it worth risking any of them before the Leicester game. Re: ARTICLE: Barnes out but there is some better news
Valid observation. From memory that came after a very long season of championship games. Personally I feel we have gone backwards in terms of building the right squad in terms of numbers and quality. As I have said in previous posts we are no longer "smart" in this area despite a further 5 years of significant PL revenue and experience. The team and subs shown reflect some very astute signings-all we hear now is how hard each window has become, and there is no evidence that we have even tried to get some of the recent names we have been linked toofirstclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 9:23 am1Heaton
