First Burnley replica shirt bought.

I bought my first Burnley replica shirt in 1966, when I was 15 years old, from Darlows Sport Shop on West Street, Sheffield, up near Sheffield University.
My Dad bought me the shirt which had a claret body, blue round neck collar, long blue sleeves with claret cuffs, with no logo or Club badge. The shirt cost 15 shillings (75p) or 19 shillings and 11 pence (99p), I can't recall exactly the price. Played football every Sunday afternoon in that shirt with a group of friends, I though that I was Brian O'Neil as I had the cuffs of the shirt pulled down in to the palm of my hand and held there my by fingers when I was playing. I had a paper round at the time and the Sunday Express and the People newspapers always had a Clarets match report from the previous Saturday game which I read during delivering the papers. I remember to this day a match report in the People newspaper in the 65-66 season where Clarets had won 4-0 against Sunderland at Roker Park where the Report headline was 'So brilliant, Burnley'. The Reporter was Len Noad and he gave 5 or 6 players in the Clarets Team marks of 10 out 10, and the remainder, 9 out of 10.
After that shirt, I bought a second replica Burnley shirt in the early Seventies when Clarets were heading to the Second Division title. This shirt had claret body, blue round neck collar, long claret sleeves with blue cuffs, again with no logo or Club badge. I glued a No.8 on the back for Frank Casper. I still have this shirt though it doesn't fit me now due to my pot belly.

Fantastic day. They had Jim Baxter at LH who, at £72k, cost more than the entire Burnley squad.
My first replica shirt was the same as yours but was purchased at Cockers for a Xmas ‘63 present. It did have a badge but it was just a football.
Here I am in it.

When we are watching some of the finest footballers to grace the planet as well as some who don't play for Burnley

photos like this bring us back to reality. As bad as the WBA game was, it was so much better then the dark days.

Dark days indeed but still happy days. Me and my lad would stand on the Bee Hole, rain, hail or shine (there wasn't much of the latter

Guy nearest camera front row and youngster to the right of the top exit are all I can see.
One fella in a C&B rugby shirt. Strangely not many scarves or bobhats either.

You'd do well to get a Burnley shirt anywhere in Sheffield, let alone on West Street, these days, OP,

Pretty sure Endsleigh didn't come in until very late 80's.
In fact I remember (I think) when we painted from green crush barriers etc to claret and blue, which was around 1989/90 (I think again

).

Slightly off topic, but looking at a combo of this pic and older pics, it looks like the Bee Hole terrace was extended back at some point. Does anyone know when that occurred?

Mine wasn't a replica, it was one of those 70's generic shirts - just claret & blue. I was wearing it in the middle of rural Wales (1975 ish) and a very famous Wolves fan accused me of being a Villa fan.

My wildest dreams for ground improvements then was that we’d be able to stretch finances enough to put a roof on the bee hole and I hoped that it would turn the corner to meet the long side roof.

When did the club start selling replica shirts? I know they didn't in 1987/88 and Peter Noble had to help out to get people shirts for Wembley that year.

We have come so far in 30-odd years, on and off the field.
Even though we have our knockers, externally and internally, we are in a good place. Could it be better? Of course. But be thankful for what we have and where we are.

Had the late 70's 'V' shirt and an early 80's yellow away shirt handed down to me by my brother. No clue where he got them from though. Earliest one I bought was an Endsleigh one. Ellgren shirt around 1990.

80/81 Umbro effort...both home and away. Still got both and they still fit. Home shirt had a transfer badge, long worn away. The yellow away shirt was made from a different stretchy material and has an undersized sew-on badge. For much of the 80s replica shirts were definitely infra dig. I used to wear mine all the time and stood out like a sore thumb. You were looked down on both by non-football fans as oi polloi and by many football fans who prided themselves on not wearing colours

In fact at the end of that match we stood at the top of the first Division table, finishing the season in third place to Liverpool and Leeds , second place being lost due to the most bizarre own goal I have ever seen by Alex Elder in the last match at home to a lucky Leeds side that day

I got a yellow Umbro Early 80s one from a shop in Portsmouth. It was in the window display and he said he couldn’t sell it to me because it was owned by the Rep.
But apparently he managed to sell it to me?

Was it Umbro? The claret and blue stripey bits below the shoulders closer to the chest.

I had a long-sleeved claret and blue football shirt back in the 60s for school games classes. Didn't have the club badge on but everybody knew what it was. First real replica was the Endsleigh one. Still got it, and a t shirt with the bus on for the Sherpa Van final in 1988.
